Random NFL Thoughts

So what do you all think of the NFLPA proposal to extend actual training camp and do away with spring OTAs? I think the NFL should agree to it if they will get an allowance to have players train and enter team facilities year round. The players should not be banned from the team weight rooms and film rooms during the off season.

As a player I would hate it. The season is too long now as it is and it appears it is going to become even longer. Activities in May/early June are ideal to get a start but doing them in July and then rolling straight into TC? Yikes. August is already bad enough.

I agree

To play the other side of this conversation...

outside of teachers, not many other professions are afforded a 'seasonal' break that's MONTHS long. We're all working 52 work weeks, outside of pre-planned vacations. Why do we feel bad for professional atheletes for a 'long' season?

Why would it be wrong to expect a similar 'work week' focus of professional atheletes? An 8 month season feels long, but even Training Camp practices and activities are not much different in regards to time at the facility, as a normal work day for a standard employee in the work force. If anyone can overcome the struggles of a grinding work life, it's these guys. They can afford to fly their families out, or fly themselves out, FAR more than us regular joes watching them on television.

I'm sorry i don't have a lot of sympathy for a season where only 2 teams are playing into February, and they don't come back to required work full time til June. If that's too much to expect, i don't know what to tell the players. I would have a bigger issue with the Thursday games, than this stuff. They need to be working 12 months a year just to stay in physical shape to keep up with the current NFL.

What other profession requires workers to have their bodies recover from multiple car crash- like traumas regularly in order to perform their best?

To be clear, I’m in no way advocating that their time on task is in any way unfair. Just that it is smarter to spread that time out if possible. It is now and has been for a long time. This proposed change strikes me as poorly conceived.

but we're not talking about the time that they're going through those multiple car crash like traumas.

This is a re-calibration of the offseason. They currently don't wear pads at OTAs, and have very limited padded practices throughout Camp and the season. Even in pads, they have strict levels of protection on how much they can actually hit. This again i why i see a bigger issue with the Thursday games, over thinking that eliminating OTAs and advanced Training Camp from July into June is going to have as much of an impact.

Logan Thomas gets a one year deal with the miners

They might as well be Redskins West

Kyle's gonna watch him play 2 games, go out with some kind of nagging injury, and then think 'oh yeah...'

I almost made a similar post about Lawrence recently but when I looked at his 2023 stats he actually had a pretty impressive season. Hasn’t lead to the results expected so far, but he hasn’t been the problem either. That’s not to say he’s worth it has earned that kind of a deal…

It's the PV vs FV argument, I'd wager they're paying for FV than PV and expecting FV to far exceed what they're going to be paying him long term. It's a win for them if they're right, if they're wrong, well Philly got out of the disastrous Wentz deal ok.

I would say that Lawrence is getting paid for potential. They are still hoping he takes that next step, despite seeming to underperform expectations so far in his career. It’s not that the Jags gave him an extension, nor is it that they think he’s their guy. It’s just the amount he’s being paid. That’s what I can’t wrap my head around.

Stats are stats but I would keep in mind that 14 of TL’s ‘losses’ were in his rookie season. Lawrence had a bad first season but he has played pretty well the past 2 and they've been on the cusp of playoffs. He was a Pro Bowler in 2022.

Just my opinion… he’s not top 10 but I think he is top half of the league and his ceiling has got to be higher than Daniel Jones I have to believe.

I’m in need of some investment advice…

If the NFL Sunday Ticket class-action lawsuit loss is upheld by the presiding judge, where should I put the $1.65 in damages that I will receive for being a long-term Directv ST subscriber?

(Asking for my heirs.)

Go with Monkeyshines in the 4th. My guy says it’s a sure thing.

I would hate to risk such a windfall on a lark. Maybe a futures option on the winning lawyers?
