Random Commanders Thoughts

John Bates is a BIG man. Definitely not a future prima donna TE. Blue-collar, humble, grounded.

Video blocked by the Washington Redskins? 🤣

Something I just thought of:

People are very upset about how terrible Sean's "statue" looks, but not one mention of the Redskins helmet/uniform.

you mean people not on this board?

Sean Taylor's family, and especially the daughter, were involved in the design of the memorial. As long as it is good with them, I'm good with it.

They were involved with designing the gear for the foundation. Not sure they were involved in the ‘memorial’ design - or at least I haven’t seen that referenced.

The team was Redskins until 2020.

Going back and seeing the NFL score Super Bowl 26 as Washington Commanders 37, Bills 24 to me is ridiculous.

The NBA doesn’t record the 1978 Finals as being the Washington Wizards vs. Seattle SuperSonics.

Sean Taylor played for the Redskins.

We need to represent the truth.

I saw someone, I think it was Haynes, talk about their involvement in the memorial, not just the merch. Here's an article that references the family's approval of it.

The cleats we all get and knew.

Reebok pants and Nike shirt. Never once did he wear Nike. This team couldn't even find a proper jersey.

The arms. You can't afford real arms? We use wires?

Sorry, but they may ok with it but that doesn't mean they were involved with it to me. They just are happy to see him on display....I mean, what this org thought of him to display.

Look - I agree with you -the family is focused on the intent as they should be. But I don’t think they were involved in the actual creation of the memorial itself. And while I’m glad they don’t have a problem with it, I don’t really think it really changes how the overall effort comes across to fans.

Yeah, I get it. There is a chance they weren't involved at all. But knowing the daughter worked on the merch, and the uncle did the mural, chances are they had input on the memorial too... And even if not - at the end of the day, they were happy with it.

I am glad that the family was happy with it. As a fan I find it weak. I also find it difficult to believe that anything to do with Sean is truly about him anymore. I’d like to believe it is, I just don’t.

And I’ll echo what Kevin Sheehan said yesterday. The team needs to leave the Sean Taylor thing alone for an extended time. Move forward and hopefully a new regime handles this kind of stuff better down the road.
