Random Commanders Thoughts

If the Redskins can get the center Kelly, one of the rated DL and a WR with their first three picks, and add general depth with the balance of picks this will be a memorable draft.

Kelly and the DL should be able to start in 2016 and put together with the return of Galette and acquisition of Norman will make this a much improved team.

Much better than the 9-7 club that ended last season.

This is about the only thing that will prevent me from throwing my tv through my window if we take on O-lineman in the first round.

Ryan Kelly has the highest grade for a center I've ever assigned. #Alabama

We draft the best center in the draft to hold down that spot for a decade? There would be no better use for a late 1st round pick.

Thought about making a thread on this but I'll ask it here: Who is your draft man crush?

I'm talking about the one player that you really want to see on this team?

For me,it's Chris Jones DE/DT out of Miss. St.

To hear Booger MacFarland(who works for the SEC Network) talk about him and how he plays and that he thinks he coud be special....

Has me sold.

Who's yours?

I respect that opinion and understand how you feel. There are about ten reasons why I politely disagree, but here's one to think about.

If we did that, at some point in the near future we would (hopefully) need to extend Moses, Scherff, and Kelly all within a very short period of time. And maybe more. Kwanjo?

That's just a ton to spend on one position group. It's a very important position group, but considering how we've neglected the D-line, that just seems like a lot.

Lots of reasons to disagree - but $$$ isn't one of them. All those O-linemen salaries combined is chump change compared to skill players. Biggest argument against picking an OL guy is the depth at some other positions in this draft. Thing is, that depth will likely cause a run on D Linemen in the first round. Most of the guys we are excited about could well be snapped up by the time we pick.

The way I look at it, picking up Norman, it's almost like we already made our #1 pick. There is little pressure now - it really frees us up to be more open to BPA since we filled a major need already. I can't wait to see what we do over the next few days.

I agree with you on Norman, but O-linemen get paid these days.

I understand LT is the highest paid, but we're paying Trent $15 million a year.

Now imagine Trent at 15. Moses hopefully at 13. And the best centers get paid through the nose now.

And then the guards.

Man crush is Ryan Kelley easily. Honestly I don't see him lasting til 21, but if he is they need to send Djax up to the podium with the pick at full speed!

There's some good Dlinemen in this draft but none are 3 down dominators with a complete game. D-line is a rotation so several good plugs are better than 1 stud that may or may not be there at 21 imho.

Kelley is the beast we need!

you are going to have to pay no matter what position you pick. Wether it is DE or DT or Center, or if they slide Long in the position and he excels you still have to pay him and Moses if they both dominate. But it will be nice to be in that position instead of having to find a free agent to fill positions.

while he is the best I hope he is there and we take him. From reports all 4 top centers are bonified starters. If that holds true I would be comfortable taking any of the top 4

I can't remember the names but 2 WR worth taking a shot on in the 7th if they are there one out of PITT caught 90 out of 95 passes last year while being double and triple covered. Guy out of Rutgers caught 95-97 passes while being double and triple covered. If that success translates to the NFL then they could be steals for your man crushes to make the team.

Standig on CSN has us staying at 21 and taking Karl Joseph.

I don't see us doing that.

The goal in Round 1 is to get a healthy talented player to add to your club's core group of performers.

Taking a guy rehabbing from an ACL who may not be available right away seems like a bet you make somewhat later on.

Besides in Round 1 I think teams are looking for safeties who project to free and have cover ability.

SS?

Either he plays well and gets paid or he bombs and turns into a bust. I can't justify skipping past the guy who makes the calls on your O-Line just because he may command a hefty salary one day.

Yeah, if we stay at 21, and they're still there, I'd go Kelly, or Ragland.

Be happy either way.

Hmmm ... offensive linemen don't really get paid like skill position players. At all.

A top ten WR this year will average $13.6 million against the cap
A top ten CB: $11.6m

A top ten Center: $7.5m
A top ten Guard: $7.8m
and believe it or not, a top ten RT: $6.0 m ... the very highest paid RT in the NFL will count $8.1m against the cap this year.

DTs get paid a little more than OLs: $9.3 m

Basically, unless you make an offensive lineman (who's not a LT) literally the highest paid player at his position, you're not paying a ton for him. Moses is not going to get $13 million from us. More likely he'll make around $6m or so (or the equivalent at the time of his deal.) That would still be top ten money.

Regarding the draft, I don't follow college, so I don't know how good this center is, but if he's an elite talent we have to take him. To be able to get a top player at 21 is something that doesn't happen very often, especially at a position of need. You have to take that. Especially if this draft is as deep at DT as I keep hearing. If that's the case, we can take a DT in the 2nd.

I honestly have no idea what we do at #21. Kelly makes sense, so does Jones, Reed, Robinson, Ragland, etc. Outside of QB, RB, and TE, we could go just about any direction in the 1st and I'd be fine with it. Wouldn't surprise me either if we moved out of the 1st and picked up and additional 2nd either.

Kelly wouldn't exactly disappoint me but mine is Joey Bosa. No way he lasts that long of course but if I could have anyone in this draft it'd be Bosa. I think the pass rush would instantly go to a dominant level and with the addition of Norman and return to health of Culliver coupled with Breeleand's continued development, this could be a really fun D to watch. Never happen though, he's going to Dallas.
