I thought the same thing. If there ever was a picture to go with the word "despair", this is it. I can see those two leaving the stadium, walking like zombies, not knowing which way to turn or go.

Luck has shown many clutch moments, even in his relatively small sampling as a pro. Cousins... chips are down and he folds. The first Philthy game was evidence enough. Does well with a lead, but isn't a winner.

Our Oline isn't pretty good at anything... Avoiding sacks is certainly one way of looking at the stat line but I would suggest 3rd down conversions as another. How many turnovers were a result of poor pass blocking. I'm more patient with Gruden than most but the Oline has regressed even further under his watch. Run blocking isn't getting it done as well.

Tandler released a study last night based upon the time he played this season. Had he played every snap this season and was sacked at the same rate, we would be tied for 3rd in the fewest sacks given up. And who says we have a bad O-line?

Tandler's point was what I have been saying for a long time (although I'm the only one on this board and it isn't a popular opinion) that our O-line is actually pretty good in pass blocking.

Whatever happens is going to be a bitter pill to swallow for Redskins fans. We're taking the medicine now and it doesn't taste so good. We're at the "pray to get well soon" stage.

I had a thought about the possibility of them retaining Haz. I was trying to prepare myself for it. Then I thought it might make sense to keep him and the staff, if only to work with Gruden through this, then in two-three years when we dump Gruden, all can go at the same time and a new HC can select a staff. During this time we cut all old vets and marginal guys, draft and keep and play all the young guys, buy yr 3 they will be a team, and the coaches can then go. Now that would be good timing and keeping Haz, as unpleasant as that sounds, would serve to get us there. We'll also have three years of top 10 picks to build with.

The front office must think ahead, get on the right path, then make it happen. So we need a Polian-type GM to come in and be the hatchet man. Promote Allen into a figurehead role. Gruden will just have to be the designated place holder until we get this whole thing right at the right time.

doesn't matter, the hatchet man is the guy who comes in, cleans house, gets the turnaround started, then leaves.
 
I may have been thinking of Pioli.

Either way, GM's are hot, until they're not.

Most fans are more fickle than a teenage girl. This month's "Gotta have", will be next month's "Gotta go"
 
Whether Cousins becomes a solid starter is a question mark but my feeling is that if he does it won't be here.

At every turn Allen and Snyder favor Griffin and Cousins I think is labeled as Shanahan's pick.

When Griffin got hurt and Cousins came in and played well before imploding a bit, if the team was serious about him they would have sat him the next game but then started him again rather than making him inactive, watching the games from the booth.

Cousins has a lot more raw talent than Colt McCoy. He's taller, has a better deep arm and can make the timing throws on the intermediate routes outside that Colt throws into the ground.

If the Redskins really wanted a vigorous competition at qb over the next year plus it would be Griffin vs. Cousins and not Griffin vs. McCoy.

Why McCoy? Because he is happy to be on an NFL roster after being picked up as a street free agent. His expectations are lower and Griffin doesn't seem fazed by him being here.

He looks at Cousins as a threat.
 
Well after listening to Allen, no way anyone can think he or the FO have any idea on how to fix this mess.

So after saying Robert's mechanics and delivery were not good enough at this level, Robert gets back on the field the last couple of weeks of the season instead of Cousins.

So, he improved that much in a few weeks to start him again so quickly?

Tell me again that Gruden decides who starts.

I am asking a valid question.

I can never remember in 40 years of watching the NFL for a coach to say a player is not exhibiting the skills to perform at this level and see that player back again as the starter the same season.

If you can think of a previous example, I am all ears!

And don't you think the possibility exists that Cousins, who's body language right now SCREAMS loser, when things go bad, was being preserved for the future? His confidence was already lower than low. Maybe Gruden sees him as the long term answer, and didn't want to totally ruin him behind a poor line, with horrendous blocking from TE's and RB's.

BTW Wades son should follow Haslett out the door. TE was one of our worst positions.
 
TE is a problem because Paul is too small to block in this system and Reed is too brittle and apparently doesn't have any intention of building up to the 250 range to be an adequate in line blocker.

Don't know how much technique/coaching fits in there.

Definitely a need for the HC to motivate Reed to work harder.
 
Paul and Paulsen both SUCK at blocking. I'd try my damnedest to replace both of them this off season.

Reed would be my Clint Didier.
 
Agreed that #2 and #3 need to go.

But Reed needs to get stronger and show he can play through some of these injuries.
 
Did Bruce Allen major in NOT answering questions?
