Remember all the hullabaloo about Heath and Gus and what Norv Turner was going to do back in the 1990's?

That it seems to me is where we are likely now.

A former first round qb that is a disappointment and a lower round pick that is not really the answer but is kept in play as a variable because of the starter's failings.

Meanwhile the head coach that preaches discipline and being accountable doesn't seem able to get his players to live that out on the field on Sunday's.

We have seen Gruden, Griffin and Cousins before, they just had different names.

We have seen Gruden, Griffin and Cousins before, they just had different names.

It's similar, but I'm not sure Gruden believes in Cousins. If he does, why wouldn't Gruden play him. Gruden made him inactive when McCoy had a broken neck. Gruden after supposedly standing up to the QB and owner by benching Griffin, threw him right back in there without letting Cousins even sniff the field. If Gruden believes in Cousins, he certainly doesn't show it.

I am only pointing out that 2 or 3 years of debate back in 1994-96 resulted in the conclusion that ALL of the characters in the sad drama needed to go.

None of them was the 'Truth' as they like to say in basketball.

I'm not convinced that with great coaching and increased confidence, Cousins couldn't be a Tom Brady type QB in the future.

I struggle with this mentality... So what you are saying is because Cousins (or any other young QB for that matter) struggles with interceptions he's destined to fail...This is based on what? This mythical Qb that comes in knows how to play in the pocket throws with pin point accuracy isn't going to drop out of the sky. Someone needs to develop that guy. All young qbs. struggle in the clutch without great coaching and some talent. It takes time...

I am. He's got a problem in the clutch...always has, well beyond his Redskin years.

In regards to Cousins and the turnovers.....

Anybody here remember when Mark Rypien got his first action on the field?

Turnover machine . Interceptions, fumbles...struggling in clutch...

Remember Charles Mann in an interview,years later, saying nobody believed in Rypien, that they could look him in the eyes and just know they weren't going to win.

Thank goodness the staff didn't give up on him! Cousins has had what? 4,5 starts? And folks want to throw him on the scrap heap already?

Why not take a shot at actually trying to develop the guy? If Gruden is seriously contemplating bringing in a Qb coach, I got a name for him: Matt Cavanaugh, who was Mark Trestman's Qb coach in Chicago.

He made McCown look so good that he basically got the kid a starting gig in Tampa. And since he's been down there, he's not looked near as good as when Cavanaugh was working with him.

Let's not pull a Stan Humphries or Rich Gannon again.

Absolutely it applies to all qbs hence the parenthesis (or any young qb for that matter)

The reason I brought up Cousins is because he's a traditional pocket passer who can make all the throws. If Gruden doesn't believe he can win with a read option QB and isn't confident he can turn Griffin into some semblance of a traditional NFL QB, seems like putting all your focus on developing Cousins would make sense. I think the smart move is not to look at 'win now' as the priority. McCoy might be the furthest along in terms of being able to manage a game and not make huge mistakes, but can he really be an answer long term?

Trying to look at Gruden and co. it appears that the ship has sailed on Cousins. I can't imagine Allen or Snyder would want to trot Cousins out there because he was (from what we understand) a Shanahan guy. I would like to see what the kid can do. I'd like to see what Griffin can do. The issue is as far as the organization goes, it has to be a completely open competition in order to truly evaluate them.

It's an opinion based on watching him play for 4 years in the Big Ten and now on the pro level. It's his M.O. Of course that COULD change, but I am convinced it won't.

I also believe Cousins is the best bet, unless we draft another QB.

On another note, it will be interesting to see Bruce's interview today. I hope it's a little uncomfortable.

I won't be rioting but I can assure you a nasty letter along with my resignation as a season ticket holder will be going straight to Redskins Park. Not that I have much at this point but if they retain Haslett there is absolutely zero reason to be optimistic or have hope for this team. Retaining Haslett would be exhibit A for making the case that they are completely clueless. I think it might be the one thing we are all 100% unified on and I think there just might be more outcry than there was when the inside word was they were going to hire Fassel. Keeping him would not only be stupid on a football level but it would show incredible tone deafness.

It isn't the rate so much as the timing. He puts up great numbers but just kills you when it matters.

His lack-of-sack rate is what's so impressive.

Tandler released a study last night based upon the time he played this season. Had he played every snap this season and was sacked at the same rate, we would be tied for 3rd in the fewest sacks given up. And who says we have a bad O-line?

Tandler's point was what I have been saying for a long time (although I'm the only one on this board and it isn't a popular opinion) that our O-line is actually pretty good in pass blocking.
