Random Commanders Thoughts

Where are your new digs? Congrats!
Lots of cars there in the daytime, which is us who are working online or retired. Speed bumbs. so no more WAAAAAA with pop exhausts past my sleeps.
I lived there from 89-93, wasn't always pleasant. But sometimes, you gotta do whatcha gotta do.

I was just on a cruise in Alaska. I was wearing a redskins beanie and looked over and saw another guest wearing an (almost) identical beanie. Mine was burgundy with a grey rim, his was entirely burgundy.

I looked at him. He looked at me. We fist bumped. No words had to be exchanged. (We did make small talk after the fist bump.)

I also wore a Commanders sweatshirt most of the cruise because it’s damn comfortable. Numerous people came up and commented. Specifically about Daniel’s. (There was a guy in an Eagles hat. I tried to use Jedi mind powers to make him have a stomach ache.)

This was in Alaska. The magic can be felt everywhere now…

We lost that first round series in close count after winning 9 of the final 10 games to make the postseason.

lmao, love that it's Sam Hartman who gets invited and gets the honor of yelling on the microphone over the playoff winning QB.

Nice piece with Scott Van Pelt

Apparently the OL were chugging beers during a commercial. Vid is out there somewhere!

I wonder if the Conerly pick opens up opportunities for Sinnott to get on the field? Last year, we had to keep a tight end in a lot and chip a lot that increased the value of a guy like Bates. If this line becomes a strength then that becomes less crucial. I realize that Sinnott also has to improve to get his on field reps, but it seems like he is more of a receiving TE than a blocking one.

Sinnott and McCaffrey in terms of size, speed, etc. looked like good picks.

But neither player seems to have natural instincts for the positions they are slated to play in the NFL.

McCaffrey looks like a quarterback trying to learn how to play wide receiver.

Sinnott just looks lost period.

I hope they figure it out, but you see a guy like Jamin Davis that was a freak athlete and had all the physical skills to dominate but didn't have the instincts and mental makeup to be an NFL player.

You can't teach that. A guy either has it or develops it or he is out of the league.

This is one reason I really like what the team has done in the 2025 draft

Both picks, Conerly Jr. and Amos, project to be early starters and natural fits for the NFL.

These are high reward players but not too high risk.

Redskins Fans say they have patience for player development.

Also Redskins Fans after a player's rookie season: He's a bust and will never make it.

I think judging a guy after one season in the NFL is folly.

Remember, this is their first off-season in the NFL. NFL training can go along way, especially when you have a good staff.
Let's reserve judgment on McCaffrey and Sinnot after this season.

The other part is that these guys are playing chess and executing plans that we as fans have no idea about. There were already fans on social meds yesterday frustrated because we were ‘letting talent slip away.’ Meanwhile had we traded up they would have been critical.

We also need to remember, to your point, that a players fate is not determined when their name is called. The best NFL players may be really good coming in, but there is always development.

Fans also live and die with the draft as being a resolution to what they believe is a need. The team has 3 more dimensions to address them.

Last season our weakest positions were: CB, OL, WR, Edge

Thus far, we've added: Laremy Tunsil, Deebo Samuel, Jonathan Jones, Josh Conerly, Trey Amos, Jaylin Lane

We turned CB and OL from five-alarm fire weaknesses to outright strengths.

Still have some ways to go but we have made major strides this offseason

I wouldn’t write either Sinnott or McCaffrey off after one season. But it’s also fair to say neither one did much of anything in their rookie season which isn’t exactly what you want to see :)

We desperately want them to be gems. That’s called ‘bias’. Maybe they will be, maybe they will continue to struggle. Who knows? But I’d rather have seen more positives during their rookie years.

McCaffrey did have some nice kickoff returns. SInnott had that nice playoff conversion off a pass from Tress, but yeah, we need to increase the sample size.

McCaffrey is a talented athlete. The question is, can he play NFL WR and we aren’t any closer to knowing that than we were a year ago. Ditto Sinnott at TE. The coaches may have a good idea but we haven’t seen it in live game action. Suspect we’ll know more after 2025.

Important upcoming season for both, no doubt. It’s possible that Luke will have to show up and show out to make the 53.

With all the receivers we have now McCaffrey is a major longshot. If he does anything next year then he must have seriously improved.

Sinnott likely gets a chance though. Ertz likely isn't going 2 years in a row without missing several games.
