Random Commanders Thoughts

Double posting intentionally.

@everybody Hi all,

I normally don't ask, but would love to send this invite far and wide. If you are on Bluesky can you please retweet? Thanks.

Fangio made Kingsbury his bitch in the NFC Championship. I wonder if this helped motivate Kingsbury to return in order to exact vengance.

Wild take.

Our offense moved the ball on the most talented defense in football on the road in the NFCC. Kliff didn’t fumble 3 times.

Who is responsible for the FACT that the Philadelphia Eagles employed the punch technique on defense with Fangio in the regular season and we continued to allow it to be an issue? This time, Whitt failed in a major way as well.

That fucking Vic Fangio adjusted better between the 2nd regular season game and the playoffs that a man who should be much sharper mentally given their respective ages.

Moved yes, scored touchdowns, not so well. Mitchell shut down McLaurin as well aside from the catch and run. Inexcusable.
Mitchell has been shutting guys down all year long.

But with that said, it’s hard to score touchdowns when you give the ball away 3 times.

Again, they have been doing that all year long.

As painful as it is to admit, that Philly defense is insane. Not because of Fangio, but because of Howie.

The other guys get paid too, and it just so happens there guys are collectively a lot better than ours.

Peters has work to do and I believe he’s capable.

Actually Fangio has a lot to do with it as well. I know that many of us were not excited when we heard that Fangio was going to be coaching all that talent in Philly.

I don’t think for a second that Fangio out coached Kliff. The Eagles defensive talent is probably the most he’s ever had at his disposal. Not that he isn’t a good DC, but this is perhaps the easiest gig he’s ever had.

I also don't agree that he out coached KK. Those dudes fumbled and without the turnovers our offense was likely going to win with much less talent. I say that because they had done it in the last several games already.

I'm just saying that Fangio definitely improved that defense.

Wrong

Philly's avg during the regular season was 278ypg. Despite 3 fumbles we were still able to put up 350 yards of offense. Terry was obviously a focal point, which is why Ertz of all people was able to have 11 catches for 104 yards. The Eagles interior pass rush is arguably the best in the game, so to want Jayden to drop back and survey the field for multiple seconds after we lost Cosmi is irresponsible. Philly has one of the best secondaries in football as well, there's a reason they are ranked so highly on that side of the ball. Dropping Jayden back and force feeding Terry was unnecessary. He actually adjusted the correct way and was far more effective than most teams in the same situation.

The better game plan was exactly what we attempted to do, but we were broken by turnovers. It happens. Losing the game does not mean one coordinator outcoached the other. It means collectively for 60 minutes they made the plays they needed in order to be successful. We didnt. The game plan was as good as we can hope. Mythodical drives, control the tempo, stay within your game plan including multiple 4th down conversions, and try to have the ball in your hand with a chance to win the game. The guys on the field didn't allow it to happen, and the defense got outdone in a game we really had no business being in if you want to talk about talent vs talent. At some point people need to grasp that the Eagles were the more talented team, and they made the plays.

We're still ahead of schedule, and we still have our QB for now.

No coach in NFL history has ever made an employment decision because they wanted to 'exact vengeance' on someone.

Lost John Glenn - assistant special teams coach John Glenn, who was Carroll's linebackers coach for six years with the Seattle Seahawks. He is the first coach leaving the Commanders, headed to be the Raiders' linebackers coach, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

I might be more into Chris Godwin, who doesn't have the same injury history and is also an excellent blocker which is important in our scheme.

Again, Daniels made this team look much better than the overall talent level and other than #5 the Washington rookie class of 2024 was not exactly front and center on this run.

There is little clarity about our having younger players that stood up enough to show they are core pieces going forward alongside the quarterback.

On offense it looks like we still need under 25 pieces at WR, TE and RB that can elevate the squad. The line doesn’t have one pro bowler on it.

On defense you could make a case a complete tear down is still necessary, two years after Washington was ranked #30 under Ron Rivera and we jettisoned that defensive roster.

I look at KC and they keep finding these guys over the years like Chris Jones and L’Jarius Snead outside of the first round who made the all pro team regularly and put a top 5-10 unit out there.

I don’t think this is fair. First, you’re complaining that outside of our round one pick, we didn’t find enough. You can’t discount that pick. How many people here wanted Drake Maye? Our staff had Daniels ranked first on their board. They were way ahead of the rest of the league with regards to Daniels vs Caleb.

Second, Sainristil was a stud all year, while playing out of position. He was a huge part of us getting to the NFC championship.

Our starting left tackle was a 3rd round pick. I do agree that Coleman may eventually be a RT or guard, but he’s going to be a starter somewhere.

That’s 3 starters, as rookies, at positions of high value.

Newton contributed this year as a rookie. And I think we can expect him to look better next year.

And, I agree. The jury is out on Sinnott, Magee, and McCaffrey. Magee has looked like a steal in limited play, and is a 5th round developmental player.

I do agree with you that you can’t discount look at Sinnott and McCaffrey and wonder if we could have done better with those picks. McCaffrey especially was a head scratcher.

But, getting 3 high level rookie starters, a regular DL contributor and some developmental players is a successful draft.

I don’t agree with this at all. We scored more on the Eagles and put up more yards than anybody else was. And we easily would have put up 30 plus, if not for a bunch of unlucky fumbles.

Quinyon Mitchell has been a stud all year, locking everyone down. The Eagles D in general has the best personnel in the league.

With regards to people saying we shouldn’t complain about the officiating, it’s buklshit to know based on who is officiating the game that we aren’t going to get a fair shake. That shouldn’t happen.

Was Brown called for pulling Lattimore’s face mask/helmet down and then pushing off? The league fined Briwn, but not Lattimore, for the fight, but which one got the penalty in the game? The league needs to fix it. They should just make all penalties reviewable. That would get rid of all of this crap.

Without the turnovers this game was a one score game. Even with one fumble this would have been a close game.

As I recall - and the rules have changed a few times - this is only possible because the position was lateral? I believe they can't block promotional (or at least, if it's a coordinator) positions.

Interesting development. I hope there aren't any hard feelings. I think there is a strong possibility Kliff leaves after next year. Blough would be a strong candidate to replace him.

That succession plan could make a lot of sense and it would be unnecessarily upended with these kinds of interviews. I mean, they may look at it more simply as keeping talent around. That's probably how they are looking at it, it is never a good idea to lose talented people you could retain, but I would think to assuage feelings they would put some kind of carrot out there. The obvious carrot to me would be the above.

My guess is if you block a guy, 2 things probably happen:

1. You make sure you’re paying him as much as the other team was going to pay hkm
2. You make sure you’re not stunting his growth.

You don’t want a guy coming to work every day thinking his employer screwed him out of a great opportunity.

Quinn and Peters are too smart for that. I’m sure a conversation was had and they invited him back and he wanted to come back.

As Tomlin said once, “we don’t have hostages here.”
