QB or not QB

The complicating factor with Maye is his team. UNC is not a top flight program and the surrounding talent this past year doesn't appear to have any solid NFLers on it on the offensive side EXCEPT for Maye.

If Maye had played at Georgia or Alabama with some NFL talent to throw to and get blocking from his trajectory would be a bit easier to gauge vis a vis McCarthy and Daniels.

Also, it appears from his pro day that Penix Jr.'s stock is set to rise with his 4.5 time in the 40 and the exhibited strength in his arm.

- Panna Cotta w/ raspberry sauce

- Hot Fudge Sunday w/ sprinkles

- Neapolitan Ice Cream over a warm chocolate chip cookie

Maybe I'm too new to be certain who's who. My guess is (in order) Maye, Daniels, McCarthy.

I will, however, say that I make a MEAN Panna Cotta. One of my favorite deserts to make in the summer. But they are finicky. If you don't get it just right, it won't set properly, and then you just have a mess.
 
I did see in Maye's workout that when he set to throw the ball deep his left big toe was pointing about 5 degrees too far to the outside and that could cause MAJOR problems down the road for anyone stupid enough to draft him :eek:

The mocks are now much more of mixed bag. I still see a lot of Daniels, but a fair number of Maye and one or two McCarthy's.

Sounds to me like the FO is doing its job.

They have to fill air for another 3 weeks and the FO is saying bupkis to anybody.

So, the mocks are going to show which agent is paying the most money to which mock drafter.

I will say, Ben Standig does have a knack for nailing picks. He's won the "mock draft award" a couple of times. I don't know who he's mocked where. However, I think his process is more sound than some other numb nuts: he looks at what the team has, what it doesn't have, and what they might do. In other words, he factors in need.

Whereas so many of the draftnick morons are so "best player available based on my big board" they discount position need, and to some extent, position value.

I think Ben gets even more positions right (like, team X drafted a WR at 16, but not the WR he projected) than just about anybody.

And once again, Thor Nystrom can kiss my ass. (Yes, I have a beef with him.)
 
These guys did a break down of Daniels/Maye for the patriots. One was at both pro days and makes some interesting observations. They are higher on Maye. I’m also curious why wouldn’t Daniels do more throwing on the run during his pro day? Since a big knock is he either goes to his first read or takes off running. Needs to show he can extend plays and keep his eyes downfield

I generally like Warner. Think he does a good job. But he also stated out loud he hates watching college ball and doesn’t have the skills to project college talent to pro talent.

The issue is the NFL season is essentially August -February. The NFL network has to keep throwing these guys out there to do something for the remaining part of the ywar

And also, literally nobody is good at this. Mel Kiper invented this whole industry and he’s pretty bad at it also.
 



These are examples of why I hope we don't over-value QB just because they're QB. Corral someone we talked about on our pod as someone who could creep his way up and early. Same thing with Howell. We as fans looked at Howell as a first / second round talent, which he is, and now we're hearing about 'fatal flaws' and 'career backup.'

Absolutely, how much of that is 'chance', poor talent evaluation, or bad fit, and how much of that is over drafting? I'm convinced that there is an element of that with these guys. We all see them as 'those are the odds' and I think teams over-value some guys out of desperation. That if they had a franchise QB on the roster, and they weren't 'looking' for one, they wouldn't grade these guys near as high.... that their grades aren't just on a curve, they're actually biased and swayed by the fact that they need a QB.

I just listened to the whole thing. Pretty good eval, although I feel he has a slight west coast bias in his talk

He very well could but it wasn’t obvious to me. Everyone has some bias, intended or not.
 
Jayden is a heck of a competitor. I’m worried about him staying healthy. Him and JJ are the most pro ready right now. Kingsbury could be one and done so there is no way he will lobby for sitting a rookie. He wants to showcase his offense now.

I’m starting to believe it ain’t gonna be Maye.

JJ is young but mentally/emotionally beyond his years. Much less likely to get hurt than Jayden. If he makes it to his second contract he will be 25/26. Not 29 like JD.


All I want is Adam to do what’s best for this team. Long term.

Whom ever he picks, we will ride with.
