QB or not QB

As a draft-day eve intellectual exercise (and to take BGO's temperature) ...

What if the Bears go rogue and and pick someone other than Caleb at #1?

Because you know Peters & Co. have gamed that out--it would be gridiron malpractice punishable by atomic wedgie if they hadn't.

Do they run to the podium and take the bearded USC kid, or _______________________________?

Only two options in that unlikely (but possible) scenario...

Take Caleb (and the pressure to do so would be enormous). Or trade down a pick or two for a King's Ransom and take whoever is left (Daniels or Maye).

The Chiefs are a 9-7 wildcard team that loses in Round 1 of the playoffs without Mahomes, perhaps less than that.

He allows the team to feature a former #7 draft pick in Pacheco at running back and wide receivers that in the main would be #3's on other clubs.

Yes, he won in 2023 with a solid to very good defense but that was really the first year the defense was there as a strong assist to the Magic Man.

Their first title in 2019 and their 38-35 victory over the Eagles in 2022 were really a showcase for Mahomes to come in and make the difference.
Mahomes, while the most important part of the Chiefs' offense, isn't the only thing though.

Kelce is huge and he is a massive part of why they can get by with lesser talents at other positions.

While I respect what Mahomes (and any of the recognized great QBs) brings to the table, there is always another superstar there somewhere to assist them.

I believe that unless KC gets another great receiver soon, we will see Mahomes take a step back toward being mortal when Kelce hangs it up.

Lord...

Let us hope that doesn't happen.

Ugh.

If the bears don't take Caleb Washington better trade back no more than 2 places and get a kings ransom. I don't want anything to do with Caleb

Chicago is picking Caleb. I don't think they've interviewed anyone else and they traded away their QB. Something absolutely crazy would have to happen for them to change their minds at this point.
