PFT: Kirk Cousins has a sprained right foot

BGO

The Redskins had an uncomfortably familiar moment Monday night in their first home game since their playoff loss to the Seahawks when their starting quarterback had to exit the game with an injury. The starter was Kirk Cousins not Robert Griffin III, the injury was to his foot instead of his knee and it was…

All good on the MRI for #Redskins QB Kirk Cousins. "No damage," I'm told. Should be back soon from the mid-foot sprain.

Source: Kirk Cousins didn't suffer any ligament damage. Timetable: "Back soon."

Yay.

Now, does he play game 3? Not worth the risk?

This is my take and my take only...

Kirk is fine. Is it a mild sprain? Eh, I don't think so. After a play or two, he would've been fine. When you look at the game tape, Cousin Kirk hobbled just a bit after the play. On the way back to the huddle, he suddenly turned around and looked toward the bench. I am all but certain that someone told him to take a seat on the field. His night was done, again, even if he really wasn't injured.

He may return for game three, but probably not. No need to risk another unforeseen injury.

If anything, the Redskins keep Chippy Kelly guessing.

All I know is that Rex Grossman would be my fantasy pick if there was a league starting where the players were all backups.

yabba, dabba, doo.

now, can we get to why Kirk wasn't really doing anything on the field? the offense was sputtering - especially the passing game. didn't at all look sharp.

and is anyone else concerned, AGAIN, about Polumbus? I think RG's return should be scheduled to whenever we install a capable RT :)

This brings up another issue. Everyone seems to want to either blame RG3's injuries on the coaching staff for their "designed QB runs" or on RG3 for being too reckless when he scrambles. But the bottom line, is it's neither of those. It's the O-line that's to blame for his 2 knee injuries last season. If they would just address that, namely RT - RG3 wouldn't have to scramble and run so much, and endanger his health.

The right tackle is such a critical position and good ones are very hard to find. The minute we are released from our financial sanctions we have got to get a good one. Otherwise our quarterbacks are at increased risk of getting hurt.

Has anyone actually said that they weren't concerned with Polumbus? :insane::insane:

if you are asking literally - the answer would be yes.

if this is rhetorical self-abuse. have at it!

No I really thought that everybody had concerns regarding Polumbus. I mean even the national media knows he's garbage.

I don't think everyone in the national media tracks the status of the Redskins RT!!!!

the reality is that he was part of a seven game win streak and he is considered a decent to good zone run blocker. the problem we all have is that given our QB's physical risks - any pass-pro liabilities are magnified - and he is the weak link in that regard.

Finally able to sit down and go through the Monday night game I DVR'd. Anyone know what grade of sprain Cousins sustained? I get worried when I hear middle foot sprain... Obviously none of us know the results, but based on what I've read I'm hoping we start Grossman at LEAST the next game.

And FS62, yeah, a lot of people are concerned about the RT situation we have right now :/

I say, we should not even give Cousins a SINGLE SNAP for the rest of preseason, unless he is 100%.
Considering RG3' status, plus the fact that this type of ailment could become a nagging injury for Cousins, why take the chance ? Chances are we'll need him later in the year. Plus we don't want our prized Trade Bait to become damaged goods.
Cousins has proved he doesn't need the work.
Let's see what Pat White can do. Maybe he could end up being our 3rd string or on the P.S. this year, and maybe 2nd or 3rd string next year !

I'm conflicted on this. I think Kirk needs more work (agree with earlier comment that he was slower to start than I had expected vs. the Steelers). However, the thought of him getting injured to the point where he isn't available for the first week as starter has me nearly vomiting in my mouth. Rex is so consistently inconsistent, it's maddening. I can't believe we went an entire season with him as the starter.

As for the OL, RT has been a need for a very long time. With LeRebius looking like a bust, OL will be a priority yet again next offseason. ILB and NT (although Cofield was balling against the Steelers) also remain high on my list.
