I was jonesing for oysters and picked up a few dozen yesterday in Tappohannock, Va. They're Rappohannock river oysters. I've never had them before. These are sweeter than their MD counterparts. Very good.

Gimme! It's so funny my daughter my son and I all love oysters. We're all Maryland people!

I love, love, love them. I have never bought them to bring home, always ordered when in places where they are local. I need to adjust my thinking because my local grocery sells big 50lb boxes of them....

I got my fill (temporarily) in New Orleans. We had them every day. My two favorite places locally have them flown in twice a week from around the country. I have found that I much prefer the ones from the Pacific Northwest. Smaller, sweeter, and more delicate than East Coast or gulf oysters…not that I don’t kill those, too. 🤣

You're the first person I have ever heard say that. I greatly prefer North Atlantic Mid-Atlantic oysters. All good

I love 'em all!

I've only eaten grilled oysters and oyster po boys in NO.

My mom used to fry 'em for my grandfather occasionally for Sunday dinner. Little bro would eat a couple...covered in ketchup, of course. 🙄

I first had the chargrilled variety there 5 years ago when they had some sort of saltwater intrusion in the gulf beds and were not permitted to serve raw oysters. And, boy, did I love them!

This trip we had a platter of those on our first night, switched to raw and never went back.

Yes...I prefer raw oysters too....but there's nothing like those grilled oysters and the local bread to sop up that juice, that you just can't get around here, (Baltimore metro area).
The best raw oysters that I've ever had, (and I've had them from all over), were some variety flown in from Japan for an oyster festival.
A close 2nd, are some that I got from a seafood stall at the Boroughs Market in London. They were harvested somewhere off the coast of Normandy and were insanely good. I wish I could remember the name of them..

Look - whatever folks enjoy is cool. Personally, I consider frying oysters a little sacriligious. Raw is my preference. Roasted is pretty damned good too. And I enjoy a nice oyster stew once in awhile. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't turn them down fried by any means, it just seems to lack a little nuance.

So yeah. Oyster snobs... unite!

I feel ya!
I'm one of those "puts ketchup on my ketchup" kind of people, but even I draw the line on some things.
My little brother puts ketchup on nearly everything, even turkey!

Frying stuff is what we "hill people' do, amirite?

Edit, add: I've gotten away from ketchup except for fries or o-rings for some reason.

Fried oysters are amazing....that's what they sell shucked pints for😉

For a special treat, I'll toss a dozen raw oysters in the shell into the steamer on top on the crabs the last 10 minutes of the cook.

We used to throw them on top of a grill with a wood fire. Served with garlic butter on the side and lemon. Killer.

I love all oysters. It's funny nobody talks about oyster stew that's one of my favorites also. Maybe too old school.

Never was a fan of oyster stew...my Dad loved it...

I like them fried, have them a lot when in Florida.

Never had them grilled but that sounds good. Just no to raw for me.

A buddy of mine had party where he loaded the smoker with everything including Oysters. OMG were they awesome.

I’m with you on the Pacific Northwest oysters. My favorite, I like them raw with mignonette sauce.
