The NASCAR rulebook is a living, evolving document. However, unlike the Constitution, it only requires a whim, not a referendum to amend it.

The other major difference is that people have actually SEEN the Constitution.
 
I haven't followed the series in a long time now, but know about team strategies and such. Goes on in all forms of racing forever. They were talkin allegations of coded messages telling who ever to cause a yellow by going off track.

I'm not buying it, just on the premise nobody in their right mind would tell their driver to risk his or any other drivers safety.

If i'm understanding it correctly, Newman would have made it and Gordon would have still been out if there hadn't been the phantom spin. Bottom line they ADDED a chase spot, regardless of who they did it for, SOMEBODY would have not had enough points, whether it be 1 point or 10
 
I'm trying to think of another professional sport where a team was added to the playoffs or taken out after a game. The only thing that comes close would be the 1919 White Sox, but they threw the Series and lost on purpose.

It sets a bad precedent if a sport, any sport, picks and chooses who should play for a championship. It smacks of backroom deals and the fact that this decision was made in Chicago is not lost on many fans. It would probably remind my grandfather of scrupulous track promoters back in the day when they would quickly leave with all the money and receipts before a race was finished. We don't need to go in that direction again.
 
Baseball is not like football. Football is not like lacrosse. Tennis is not like swimming. Soccer is not like cricket. Golfing is not like basketball.

Sandbagging happens. Richard Petty did it back in 1972 for teammate Buddy Baker. Some fans complained, but Big Bill and Bill, Jr. stood by the results and said other teams need to think about multi-car operations if they want to counter that advantage.
 
The sport dates back to 1948 with the modern era debuting in 1971. Changes have occurred along the way. Baseball no longer has the old pennant races. Football went from twelve to fourteen games and later, to sixteen.

Did the Eagles sandbag back in 2010 in order to play the Cowboys again? What did the league do?
 
Making sense? Hey, just asking fair questions.

How about this one? Last year, Jimmie sandbagged after winning the first segment of the All-Star race. It helped him to not wreck and win the event. Like it or not, he didn't race 100%. NASCAR didn't do anything after the race and I applaud that decision. He played within the rules and NASCAR let the results stand.

NASCAR said on Friday that teams must race at 100% now. Let's see what NASCAR does when some teams drop to the back at 'Dega next month.
 
JJ admitted it and worked within the rules. Blocking for teammates happens. Intentional wrecking? You bet. Even Dale admitted to spinning himself at Bristol in 2004. I loved watching David Pearson sandbagging at the Firecracker 400 in 1976. He snookered several drivers in that race and Petty said it was masterful.

They played within the rules that NASCAR set forth and the results were not changed after the race. No rules were broken at Richmond, but results were changed after the race. Teams were added to and subtracted from the chase after Richmond. The NFL had no rules during an uncapped year, but made up a new set of them to take cap space from the Redskins, Cowboys, and Raiders.

Mara, Hendrick and backroom deals happened. We can't change it, but we can acknowledge it. There is a reason why NASCAR is not able to fill the seats beyond 50% capacity these days. Keep changing the rules on a whim and that is what you get. Watch the NFL over the next twenty years. Just watch. It is going down the same fateful path. Again, just watch.

Looks like Clint Bowyer, Matt Kenseth, and Miss Sprint Cup have decided to retire.

Nationwide to leave the 2nd level tier series after next year. Looking to sponsor a Cup team (Roush has the inside track to sponsorship).

Outback to stay with SHR and sponsor Harvick for a few races.

Austin Dillon will run the 3 car in Cup next year. Looking like the car will be mostly black with the same style of 3 that we have seen in the past.

Hearing some rumblings about changes to the schedule for next year (to be released later this month). We may see the following:

1. Homestead and Phoenix could switch races at the end of the season - Phoenix would be the last in the chase.
2. Sonoma may get a race in the chase.
3. Schedule could be re-arranged to drop Dover from the spring race and Road America in Wisconsin added (making for three road courses on the circuit).
4. Atlanta and Darlington could swap dates - Darlington goes back to the old Labor Day date it had years ago and Atlanta gets the day before Mother's Day date.

Any of the changes are possible or only a few. Maybe none. But these are the rumors that are talked about in the garage.
 
I'd LOVE to see a road course in the chase..
 
I'd love to see NASCAR travel to Australia and race at Bathurst. The only driver who will finish will be Marcos. Mt. Panorama does NOT let you off if you make a small mistake. A small mistake often leads to total carnage.
