Official NASCAR Thread

Jason, Derek - enjoyed the texting and all the one liners we had going back and forth. It had me laughing most of the evening. My mother had the text of the evening though toward the end - priceless.

Same here, brother. Your texts, and Mike's fb wall definitely made it more fun.

And I'm not basing this on last night's finish. You know Jr. is going to run strong at Daytona. But the 88 is going to be a factor this year.

In past years, you could see the burden he carries in his eyes. You could almost feel his frustration and disappointment through the TV screen. He often looked like he had lost before he'd ever run. (And I understand why. You can't carry the name Dale Earnhardt as a racer, unless you've got shoulders like those cut into Mt. Rushmore.)

This year, he looks upbeat, and his attitude is different. It wasn't "soul crushing" not to win last night. It was "a good points day." (My words. Not his.)

I believe the mark of an outstanding Cup driver is very simple. Finish better than your car is capable. Jr. had the 3rd best car last night. He finished second. I believe he'll keep it up.

****

I was also very impressed with Carl's ability to work through traffic last night, avoid chaos (for the most part), and bring a battered car home P8. That was another "better than the car" finish.

he did say "im not happy with the place but Ill take the points." I know it killed you inside to say that too lol

I told my dad last night "you see Carl interviewing during the red flag? If he didnt drive a Ford he would be my number 2 driver". but he DOES!! sucka...lol

Man, we're in the same boat. The only thing I have against Jr. is his manufacturer. You know I respect him.

(Disclaimer: I still reserve the right to talk smack all year long, and expect the same in return.) :)

Dale Earnhardt Jr is the modern version of Kyle Petty. He can thank his dad for getting him into the sport, he is good enough to stay in the Sprint Cup, but he will never dominate like his father. I like Jr, but without the name he would never be where he is today. Just like Kyle Petty.

Some other funny stuff...

Jr. fans are now forced to cheer for Danica - ROFLMBO!

Front Row Motorsports never lives up to their name.

Brian Vickers was supposedly seen at Daytona on his knees with hands clasped while mumbling to Joe Gibbs, Roger Penske, Rick Hendrick, Chip Ganassi, Richard Childress, Richard Petty, Jack Roush, and Michael Waltrip.

Memo from Michigan International Speedway to Daytona International Speedway - Dated 28 Feb. 2012 at 0830 hrs: Glad that you were able to use the Jet Dryer and we look forward to its return later this week.

How many drivers does it take to explode a jet dryer? Just Juan.

Somewhere out there, Theresa Earnhardt is riding around on her broom.

During the break on Monday night, Dale Jr. and Brad Keselowski had a spirited race to the port-a-potty. Kez overshot his pitstop, lol. The video is here...

I may need a new job after the explosion of laughter you just caused.

Kyle Petty was a career also-ran, who if memory serves, won one race.

Jr. isn't his dad. Mike and Derek (SC) will both tell you that. But there was only one MJ. There was only one Babe Ruth. There was only one Jerry Rice. Being named after the greatest of all time at ANYTHING is an impossible standard to live up to. But frankly, considering all that he's had to deal with over the years, he does a remarkable job of carrying the family banner proudly. And the Earnhardts who CAN'T drive, like Kerry, are gone. There's a reason Jr. sticks around. It's because he has the talent to do so.

Now excuse me, I'm going to go home and take a LONG shower, then visit a shrink. I've got to find out what's causing my defendingjunioritis.

Right, talent to stick around. Win championships? We'll see.

says the guy who's team has ZERO with the drivers they have now. talk about pot calling the kettle black.

Ha! None of the drivers currently racing with JGR have been in the Sprint Cup as long as Jr either.

Poor choice of words on my part. He does more than stick around. And I while I note the irony of Mike pointing out Nationwide titles ;) he's won championships.

Look, I get frustrated with him getting all the media attention. Mike even said "I disagree with Kenseth not getting the story, but..." the other day after Daytona. That is what it is. And IMO, it can't be held against him.

I don't know. We all like to think we're good at our jobs. But how good would you be if you watched your dad die (God forbid) doing what you do. On top of that, he was the greatest ever at what you do. And on top of THAT, you have a camera and mic in your face, 24-7, asking why you're not him.

I wouldn't trade him lives for his salary, doubled.

(Now I'm done!! Jr eats worm feces, Mike.)

wait, NOW you want to talk about how many years? geezus man, you need to get one argument for us to clown at a time here. Yes, Jr has been in NASCAR longer than Kyle and Denny and unfortunately for you I have already made fun of you on this WEAK attempt to talk trash. I dont have the desire to repeat it.

Please let me know when you actually have some facts or a decent argument to stand on.

Stop! You are not being logical here! I will admit that I was stoking the flames a little with the Kyle Petty comment, but this above statement wreaks of foolishness!

You make a claim that I root for a team with not one driver who has won a championship. You are correct, but this is coming from a guy who roots for a driver who has had much more time/opportunity to get it done.

I like Jr better than Kyle as a person. I think Kyle is immature and reckless, but he is a far better driver than Jr will ever be!

I an willing to bet you $500 now, Kyle will win a championship before Jr will. And that is taking the risk that the idiot Kyle gets kicked out of NASCAR altogether for doing something stupid like he did at the end of last season!

Pyle Ketty has seven wins. Not much at all, but more than one.

El, try the Jr. is gay thing - that's gets 'em everytime. :)

Seriously though, he will win soon. Championship? Probably not, but he is competitive again. DEI was a shadow of its former self when he departed. Having TEJ and McGrew as CCs did not help either. Just saying.

JGR!!!

and save your money..you have a kid coming and will need it for diapers, formula and stuff like that.

Joe Tessatore: "Mike Sr. took a right hand there, but he's shaken it off. And he's coming back with some stiff shots of his own. This is the kinda guy who gets stronger when he sees his own blood!"

:redpunch:

Actual news: Chad Knaus suspended 6 races, and the 48 team docked 25 points for the C-pillar infraction.

Five-time now stands at NEGATIVE 23 points for the season. Bwahahaha!!!!

Just like I told you on Monday evening. :)

No, it's the same old argument, Jr is over rated because he has his father's last name.
