Official Game Thread - Week 4 - Commanders @ Falcons

I always had the impression that the front office felt to a degree strong armed into getting him signed due to him being the only deep threat on the team with no option to get someone else due to the late time frame and also to a degree fans clamoring for the team to "just pay him". Kind of pushed into a corner to make it happen. TM didnt get all he wanted and the team even though they didnt meet his demands it still hurt them going into the season. Time will tell if it hurts the team long term.

I dont know if I agree with this. The front office didn't bend the knee.. They won the deal. The big numbers are purely window dressing.

The injury definitely doesn't bode well for his stance, but it is a long season. Guys get dinged up all the time. Just hope it's not a long term issue.

I'm starting to lose my enthusiasm about going to this game. I paid an absolute shit-ton of money for this, and it's not going to be what I wanted, win or lose.
And you're local. I am flying in for the game (staying at my brother's house in Dunwoody and we got good seats for gratis, so that lessens the blow). But I get you!

He may have landed on his wallet.
good one lol GIF by Chicks on the Right

If this is just a quad strain, I'm going to have some questions about his conditioning during his hold-in. I'm going to ask those questions in a pointed and aggressive manner with a frown on my face.
‘Seeking other opinions’ is an interesting line. You don’t do that if it’s just ‘stick some ice on it - it’s fine’. Wonder what the MRI showed.

If Noah is out, too. I am guessing Chris Moore at X. McCaffrey at Z. Deebo slot.

I gather the Falcons will crowd the box and not worry about the deep ball. If its Mariota again, that's going to be one heck of a challenge.

I like most of what Peters did this off season but felt a few issues remained. One area where I thought they were weaker than last year is depth at outside WR. Better depth at slot. But worse depth at Z and X.
Lane can go deep - he just needs to hold on!

Terry was one of my favs before that draft. Loved him as a player here. Still like him, But lol, his holdout and rhetoric came off self centered and delusional during the summer. And I find it ironic if he misses time its because he actually couldn't outrun the CB. That's fine. But he loved to say multiple times that him outrunning those Detroit defenders prove that he will be a different kind of WR in his 30s.

So we could be playing the Falcons minus at least 5 starters on both offense and defense? The 2025 Orioles say hello.

I like our chances, this Penix is flaccid

He can but hes more of a natural slot than a Z.
He can run the skinny post against MOF open and corner against MOF closed from the slot. Deep crossers as well.

He seems have the body size to develop into an outside receiver.

As for the body type. Agree, I think its fine for Z. But bottom line, he played primarily slot in college. And while i liked what i've seen so far from him in the NFL. The weakness so far seems to be him being outphysicaled at the catch point. Not always but often the outside corners are more physical than slot Cbs.

So yeah while i think he can get there. I wonder if its week 4 against Atlanta

Fair. He should have caught that back shoulder throw for a TD on the play the refs blew the offsides call on against the Raiders. So full agree right now it’s more potential than reality.

Yeah its not just that one, I recall at least one more in a previous game where he got it seemed out-physcaled at the catch point. i like his potential though. And agree, he could evolve into more of a Z than slot. But i am assuming he's more comfortable at slot.

And agree even if playing slot, you can use him to stretch defenses. Deebo can't play every snap at slot.

Terry has lost a step. He should have easily outrun them . But he also gets caught many times from behind on deep passes. And the only thing I can think is he either pulled his hamstring or got a deep bruise when landing on the helmet. And no he is not getting 1000 yards this year

Look at how the Cowboys use Lamb. He lines up in the slot a lot and goes vertical - but they move him around. Now Lane is not Lamb but he can be used in similar ways. As Terry, let’s say matures, his role is evolving into more of a chain mover who can also still threaten deep - adding another true deep threat is something we should be looking for next offseason.

I've never looked at TM as a pure speed guy, his talent was effort, out muscling for the ball, great hands and route running. He has been getting caught from behind long before this year. Speed, at least to my eyes, is not one of hie elite strengths.

I hope we can really develop Lane
One awesome thing about both Mariota and Daniels, they both spread the ball around. I feel like in general, Luke and Jaylin can get opportunities with either of these QBs, as long as they see the field. To Kliff's credit, they do see the field. That is great stuff; hope it continues and like you said, hopefully they both can develop.
