Official Game Thread - Week 14 - Commanders @ Vikings

Once again though - so much attention the defense.

Kliff is somehow unblamed, even when the team scores 0 points. Unbelievable.

Just heard on Bears v Packers:
Brady says, "Ben Johnson has designed so many different run looks, creative, it makes it easier to get these running backs going" <- something to that effect.
I am always surprised at how Redskin fans don't understand the importance of the run game in today's NFL.
You must not be reading my posts. I have complained about Kliff all season and hope he’s fired. You didn’t pay attention to what I was responding to about Quinn being in charge of the defense and it looks worse.

Why do I feel like we're going to get the Vikings that beat the Lions a month ago, and not the version that has averaged 10.4 PPG in 5 of the 6 weeks around that game? I hate getting a team coming off a shut-out ass-whipping like the Vikings had against the Seahawks--the Falcons strutted up and down the field on us, coming off an embarrassing shut out loss to the Panthers
I should start betting heavily on these games

It was probably misquoted - I wasn't as much responding to you, should not have quoted you! Sorry about that. It is just that I see a lot of posts talking about losing 31-0 and how our defense failed. There have been a lot of uphill conversations this year about the offensive failures.

It's too bad our team can't come off of one of our really bad losses and get fired up. I guess it only works for everyone else.

I think the real answer is, right now - we always lose. You can bet on "Commanders lose" and be accurate. It doesn't mean the Vikings would have necessarily beaten anyone else this week. I know, they played a good game last week, but in the big picture that is obviously the outlier.

I honestly dont see another win on the schedule. Although division games are often coin tosses. Regardless losing out would be the smart thing to do. We desperately need more draft picks to lower the age of this roster.

This is why if I am the owner I talk to the GM and coaches and shut Daniels down.

After 0-31 if anyone tells me ‘we are still fighting hard out there’ then I would have to question their sincerity.

In any case I don’t allow 4 games and the chance for Daniels to go down with an ACL for nothing during a lost season to sway me.

If JD was 100% healthy I would play him...he needs it. Problem is I don't think he has been healthy the majority of the year. The situation we are in makes it so much more difficult to evaluate him and the rest of the team. Going to be so much doubt heading into the offseason.

The silver lining is perhaps Peters and Quinn woke up and we can go into the offseason getting rid of Daron Payne and other 30 year old veterans and start to build this the right way.

Again, I think the competitive fire went out of this group after the OT loss to Denver.

What you saw today was a team that has in some ways mentally given up. Washington has been eliminated and players know there are big roster changes coming.

The Vikings were 4-8 and had themselves been throttled a number of times this season, Washington didn't show anything here.

What I don't do is let Jayden Daniels get caught up in the vortex of a lost season and let that impinge on the future here.

This works on the annual level too. They played a good season last year, but in the big picture that is obviously the outlier. For over thirty years, you can bet Washington will have a losing season and be accurate. I’m just so tired of it.

I hear you, but again - it's unfair and completely wrong to say Harris is the same as Snyder. Look at the Giants. They won some Super Bowls more recently than we did, right now they have sucked over a couple of HCs. It happens.

The question is how is your process going to evaluate the situation and move forward. This is not the "Snyder run process" - it is the "Harris and Peters run process" - and if Peters is deemed part of the problem, that is a Harris process thing. In the past, the HC decision was clearly "Snyder run" though.

There are so many differences, it's really inaccurate to conflate them together. I get it, it looks the same - that doesn't make it the same, though. It's actually quite different, even if the postgame tears and beers make it all feel the same.

3-14 is embarrassing. Prescott running the score up on this team on Christmas day will be brutal. What a disappointing year.

Playing a good game on Christmas is about the only way to get any redemption this year, so it probably won’t happen.

I have been one of the most pessimistic fans since preseason and even I’m shocked how bad we are. This year is as bad as any of the Snyder years.

If I am the owner I am evaluating the GM, coaches, entire defense and selected offensive players before I am worried about evaluating Daniels future.

We took him #2 overall and he can play in the NFL. The question is are we building this the right way to make for a consistent winner or trying to hit lightning in a bottle and when that doesn't work all of a sudden we are out there naked with the stage light on the organization?

To me this is a 1980 moment.

In 1980 after a 6-10 finish Cooke invited Beathard and coach Jack Pardee into a series of meetings to determine how to proceed with the running of the team.

The play on the field was uninspiring, there was an aging roster of players and the previous year the team had traded a number of its draft picks away for veterans whose play was underwhelming.

In the end Cooke determined that he wanted to go with a team built on the draft and needed to find an offensive coach who was creative and could work with Joe Theismann to make him better and develop #1 pick Art Monk.

It became clear Pardee wanted to simply win now. His view was rookies made mistakes and it was better to go with players that had already proven they could play in the NFL.

Beathard endorsed Cooke's vision and amplified it with how the front office and coaches in Miami had built up a two time Super Bowl winning squad.

Pardee was fired.

I think we are at that type of crossroads.

What we don't know here in the lead up was how assertive Quinn was in trading for Lattimore and bringing in older players to fill out the roster, or whether this was a decision Peters favored and Quinn simply went along with that POV.

What we have done here is NOT what Peters and Lynch did in San Francisco. Yes, they traded for Trent Williams and McCaffrey but that was AFTER they had already been to the Super Bowl and had a team that was consistently in the playoffs.

That #1 defense that the 49ers built was based on draft picks like Greenlaw, Warner, Hufanga, Bosa, etc. who became pro bowlers.

I am not seeing that here.

His demeanor really changed after the Ertz injury. The team loves that guy.

But yeah, Jayden smiles when losing and fans say he’s not taking wins and losses seriously. He’s pissed off after a loss and injury to him and a potentially career ending injury to one of his favorite targets, and it must mean he doesn’t want to be on the team.

Everyone come off the ledge. This was a horrible game in every sense of the word. But no need to overreact and read into every facial expression. The next thing will be someone saying his friendly handshake with O’Connell was him saying “come get me”.

Geez Kel.... I didn't read into every facial expression, I read into one :) I just struck me because that's not his normal demeanor even during tough losses. He lost his composure several times today and I just didn't like the energy he was radiating. Probably nothing, like you said. But it WAS pretty un-Jayden-like.

Quinn really should be on the hot seat at this point.

It's one thing to lose when you're shorthanded and your team has been ripped apart by injuries. I get it, but this team is getting routinely embarrassed and outright laughed off the field. We've lost 8 games in a row, and 5 of them have been by 22 points or more. This team is getting dunked on. Absolutely fucking humiliated.

You can't be the GM of this team and feel good about that. Injuries or not, we shouldn't be this bad.

That's on coaching.

Ordinarily I would probably consider this a big reach, primarily because of the injuries we've had to absorb. But there is a feeling that things are spiraling out of control a little, even though we are starting to get some guys back. I still think Quinn will get his full contract, but I think it's a little less certain given the nature of some of these losses. We don't look ready to play, nevermind the injuries.

Seriously, stop brining up what happened under Snyder--it is totally irrelevant.

I feel bad for those of you that watched the game. I didn't watch a second but came back from a day out with my family to read this thread, so I basically absorbed all of the same psychic pain over a 20 minute period than a 3 hour one :ROFLMAO:

I had a strong feeling (and posted as such) that McCarthy would somehow have a Daniel Jones-like day, but the other aspects of the game were even worse than I imagined they would be.

Right now, I'm fully onboard with losing out. I also am rooting hard for Indiana in the CFP.

Wake me up when the CIgnetti era starts...

Yeah, I was exaggerating but also making a comment about fans in general. We over analyze everything, especially after a loss. But I think it had to do with him hurting his arm and then seeing Ertz go down like that. The sideline looked devastated after that injury.
