Official Game Thread - Week 13 - SNF - Broncos @ Commanders

I think they were very patient with Forbes. He showed no signs of being able to perform even at the most base expectation level. He looked to have completely lost his confidence and there was no guarantee he would ever recover it. How many times were we to trot him out there only to see the opposing offense absolutely victimize him? And I think it's far from a given that he will ever be anything more than a rotational sub elsewhere.

Did the brains trust get caught up by the crazy success & lose sight of the longer term building of the franchise? Don't know. You could always argue the injuries killed the plan, let alone any momentum.

I know it's NotForLong, but are we too reactionary so far - Forbes comes to mind - a little patience might have seen us developing a young asset.

Back on topic, I'm extremely eager for JD to play against the Broncos, especially with Terry's likely return. His current training session looked pretty slow motion however - won't be holding my breath....

The plan has been to count on JD to carry the team and have the other young players emerge while the vets provide the baseline performance. Unfortunately the vets became injured, exploited, or ineffective, while the youngsters did not grow sufficiently. We need a legit defensive cornerstone and consistently explosive player on offense.

Forbes' time here was an absolute tragedy.

Watching some of the games yesterday, it dawned on me that teams with terrible defenses don’t have to turn into great defenses, they just need to play average defense. Dallas didn’t play great defense, KC went up and down the field on them a lot yesterday. But they were good enough in a few stretches to force some punts and win. Cincy still wasn’t good, but they forced 5 turnovers to win. They got a shot in the arm with Burrow coming back that helped their offense. But defensively, they got turnovers.

To win this game against Denver, the defense doesn’t have to be great, they just have to be average. Get a few stops, a couple of turnovers, and that will make a huge difference. Denver’s defense is good and with Mariotta instead of Daniels, maybe the offense won’t be good enough to overcome average defense. But if they play poor defense as they have most of the year, they certainly don’t have the offense to overcome that. Denver has a knack of playing down to the competition (barely beat TEN, NYJ, NYG, and LV). So this game is winnable with a few stops and a few turnovers and a few plays on offense.
 
So I’m guessing that Brown and/or Burks are going to play Sunday night?
 
Commanders HC Dan Quinn said he expects Terry McLaurin (quad) to play in Week 13 against the Broncos.
McLaurin has practiced all week and is in line to make his return since last appearing in Week 8’s loss to the Chiefs. It’s already a lost season for the Commanders and McLaurin, who has caught just 13 passes for 203 yards and one touchdown in the four games he’s appeared in this season. Assuming he’s active, he’ll profile as a WR3 against a stout Broncos defense with Marcus Mariota under center.

The crazy thing is that if we won out, it's still possible for Philly to lose 8 games and probably Dallas too which is why it sucks that we can't see Jayden play with our receivers while we are still in contention but it is what it is.

Philly has 4 losses but still have to play us twice and Buffalo. Dallas has 5 losses but still has to play us and Detroit. Both Philly and Dallas have to play LAC which could give them both 8 losses if we run the table. Man, if we had just held on against just Chicago and Miami, this season looks a lot different right now

This is why i'm not looking at this season like it's some sort of devastating disaster. We're a couple plays here or there away from being in a different place mentally. We're not as bad as we've been at our worst, or as good as we've been at our best. There's no reason to hit the reset button again, just keep building so more of those plays and bounces go our way as we continue to upgrade our roster.

Really, the key to winning a lot of close games comes down to complementary football. Things are going to happen, but do you have one side lift its play when the other side makes a mistake, or do you have everyone tanking in unison.

Last year, somehow, we would make some kind of stop after a turnover/mistake more than not, and likewise, the O would be scoring when we needed it to, turning it on at critical times. This year, it's the exact opposite. The O puts together a drive? D lets up a drive. The O turns the ball over? D lets them score. D makes an amazing stop or gets a TO? O goes 3-and-out. Maddening to watch.

More on-topic: let's hope this week we can watch some complementary football!
 
As crazy as it sounds, if we held on against Miami and Chicago, we'd actually control our own destiny right now. We'd be a half a game behind Dallas with them coming to us late in the season and we'd be 2 games behind Philly with 2 games left against them down the stretch. That's a hard pill to swallow and makes the injuries, Whitt, and gay decisions hurt even more
 
Please give some of the younger players more involved this week. I am thinking especially Magee, Medrano, and maybe Kaho defensively. Offensively Sinnott, Burks, Lane, and maybe some Coleman at G if there are thoughts of not signing Paul.

Also, if a RB has thee hot hand, keep feeding them regardless of which one it is
