Official Game Thread - Week 10 - Steelers @ Commanders

I honestly think the Skins gave this one away. No read option, no designed runs for Daniels. Why? Because of Thursday. They want Daniels as fresh as possible. Washington playing with one hand behind their back against the Steelers nearly won. But in the end AFC losses are less of a concern.

If I was doing a Next Day Thread
bored waiting GIF

Between the hockey game Friday and the game yesterday I haven’t had time to read the thread.

Not upset at the game. Thought it was exciting and was glad we didn’t somehow turn it into a typical blow out loss.

Disappointed Quinn continues to let a guy field punts that has problems fielding punts. That’s always a ticking time bomb if you allow it to continue, and it killed us yesteray.

Very unhappy Daniels was so inaccurate. That miss to Luke was devastating, could have been a long TD but at least a much needed first down. He was off all day. But it was super windy.

We had about 25 people at our tailgate. 2/3 were Steelers fans, it’s a Pittsburgh family we were with. I’d say the stadium was 80% Steelers fans, my buddy thinks closer to 70%. They all bought their tickets before the season started, combined with the fair weather nature of our fans… I totally expected it, said as much in the thread last week leading up to the game.

Finally - whoever owns this bus that caught on fire and caused a complete standstill trying to exit out of the D lots, turning what is normally a 1 hour 15 minute drive home into a 3+ hour drive home - fuck you

Now that I have stopped yelling at the TV (more on that in a second), here is the reality of where we're at: 7-3, $122m in cap space, full slate of picks, a fantastic, in-sync FO & coaching staff, and, most importantly, a fucking stud at QB. Our last two losses were to teams that are a combined 14-5...and we lost those games by a combined 8 points, and shoulda/coulda/woulda won both of those games. We are in a fantastic position. Haters can say we haven't beaten anybody, sure, that's somewhat true (we did boat race the 6-4 Cardinals though), but we are running with the top teams in the NFL. No, we haven't beaten them...yet. We are doing this with Noah Brown, Fumbles Zaccheaus, and Dropsies Dyami across from McLaurin. Ertz is a nice story, but I think he has about a .25 yards, total, after the catch. We have McLaurin, Robinson, Eckler...and that's it on offense, right now. I'll take where we're at, even if we lose to the Eagles on Thursday. We are in a fantastic spot right now.

As for yelling at the TV--it feels amazing to care this much again. I went years where I would watch the game for a bit, if I didn't have anything else to do, expect a loss, most times in comic and ridiculous fashion. I am back to appointment viewing on Sundays. I would never stay up and watch the late games--I plan on being exhausted and angry on Friday (I am not expecting a win)--but I love caring again.

Not Breaking News. This is now the next day GDT. IMHO why have 2 places to discuss the game anyways, while waiting for a person to start another thread wait for it about the same game.

Without further ado RHs 3Fers

Good
  • JD5 - No turnovers 200 yards and held up vs a stout pass rush and a defense that was ready for him. Damn shame he didnt get a chance to win it at the end and ruin those traveling armpitts fans day.
  • TMC - Had 113 yards vs a stout secondary. It would be great if he could finish those deep balls but JD5 seems dialed in on him.
  • Fowler - the man's a menace! 2 more sacks on his ledger.
Bad
  • OL - we can blame injuries and Pitt's strong front but they had their worst game IMO
  • Drops - it happens but it can't happen and expect to win vs strong teams. I'll lump in Zac using his face to catch punts. Lets remove his facemask for Thursdays game.
  • BSJ - he's a physical corner and he will take his lumps in space but the fantasy community has been targeting him for years. With success.
Mehgly
  • Front 7 - Kept Harris to 3.4 and Russell under 200 passing... but we lost and that error at the end of game is what it is - to be a learning moment.
  • RBs - did enough to not be bad - no turnovers and punched 3 balls in but didnt stand out at all. 2.7 per ewww
  • Kliff - I didn't like his game plan but do think Pitt had a hand in squashing it and with it JD5s legs.

Anybody can start a next day thread if they want to. It's not difficult. You don't have have to carry any lumber in the hot Arizona Sun in August or anything lol. Just click a few times.

I would do it myself right now but it's kind of already too late. I didn't wake up early, sorry. :p

I got used to watching RedZone every Sunday, until this year. Now I actually watch our entire game, then switch to RedZone after it's over.
Same. Although I watched last year until the game went sideways which was often and early in the game 😆

This is the first year in… 5 years?… that I’ve exclusively watched them in whatever time slot they are

Re: Kliff you need to commit to the run game early to set up the play-action later, even if it isn't efficient. Agree that's what BRob is so important.

This was a game we ought to have won and I'm glad the team is taking it hard but as a fan, 7-3 and 8-2 don't feel much different to me. Onto Philly.
Kliff committed to the run as much as he could. The issue is we went 3-out 3 of the first 4 drives because we failed on our first 3 3rd downs. The only drive we didn't go 3-out on is the one where we stopped the fake punt and scored.

Kliff never abandoned the run, but we rushed for an average of 2.7 yards per attempt over 22 attempts. The fact is, we had like 3-4 good runs, and the rest were super poor. This is probably due to 3 contributing factors:

1. The steelers defense is legitimately good, extremely well coached, and nasty.
2. Biadasz was playing through REAL pain and not very effective, and Trent Scott was asked to block Watt. That's a recipe for disaster.
3. Brian Robinson was out.

I think the three factors together made running the ball really tough sledding. In hindsight, they probably needed to pull Biadasz at some point because while he was gutting it out, he was getting overwhelmed. Not much you can do about Trent Scott. When 2 of your top 3 tackles are out, you play #4, and this wasn't a great week for it.

I think Kliff was trying to manufacture offense any way he could. When you are playing a disciplined defense with a lot of talent, and you are limited, that's tough. He tried some quick game, WR screens, and even a throw-back pass (which was blown up, but if Brown could have thrown it to Daniels, it's a TD), but nothing really worked consistently.

This team desperately needs a bye week. Luckily after Thursday, they have 2 games in a month. So they'll get some rest. But they're beat up at the wrong part of the season.

KDawg, another ex-ESer here that would love to see the Next day thread here!
I just signed up and did look for the Next Day thread but that's OK, just glad to find a board with some activity.

As for the game it was a brutal loss with so many missed opportunities. But it sure is nice to be excited at 3rd and 8 and feel deflated after a tough loss again, it's been a long time since I had experienced these emotions.

I just hope this loss doesn't drain the team down to where they lose on Thursday, which is a tremendously more important game. Losing a game by inches to a non-conference playoff bound opponent isn't earth shattering, but if we lose Thursday we are 2 games out of 1st place.

Thursday will be a tough game on the road against a division foe. It will not be an easy game and the Eagles will be ready. I am personally fairly confident however that our team will be hungry and ready. I believe this loss will not drain them at all if anything it will only motivate them to be more ready to go. Hearing what Cosmi said post game - something like the team is upset but all the more hungry to go back out and play better this Thursday.

A game on the road against the Eagles will be a fight - I think this loss will not cause a hangover and the team will be anxious to play better. I can't wait to watch.

I'm still sour about this one. This reminded me of the Chicago game except our luck ran out this time. It's not like a 10 point lead should be a guaranteed win but there were so many missed opportunities. Similiar to the Chicago game just too many drops, the ball isn't going to be perfect every time, especially when you're playing against great pass rushers and there's no doubt that JD had some misses, one I thought could have went to the house if it was on target.

I'm sour on Ertz, I dont blame the refs for the spot at the end of the game, the refs stink, expect they will make the worst call possible but for Ertz, a guy who has played a lot of football and has played in a Superbowl, to not have the situational awareness to know where you are on that catch is infuriating. Why are you going to the ground when you're coming back to the ball? Ertz always seems to be falling when he makes a catch and he drops easy catches at least once a game. Let's see some more Ben.

We won the TO battle and lost the game, that's something you dont see too often.

We're pretty beat up going into this Thursday night game. I dont think we are as talented as Philly but I guess anything can happen. Regardless, even if we are 7-4 after Philly we have 12 days off and hopefully, we can get some people healthy before we play Dallas.

I'm still thrilled with where we are, it's been a fun season but we just aren't there yet when it comes to playing the better teams, maybe that changes Thursday night.

I don't know where Crowder is with his injury but we could use him in the return game and as a WR, he looked good last year, he still has the wiggle and quickness. Hopefully, we can pull him off IR soon.

I can’t be mad about this loss. The guys played their guts out and came up half a yard short. It’s important to remember AP’s retooling process is still in phase 1 and depth in key spots is sub par. Still a ton of work to do..

And yet, dinged up as they were, they punched above their weight and almost beat a very, very good team.

Even in their losses, you can see and feel this team is light years ahead of anything we’ve seen in a long, long time!

too many mistakes like penalties and drops to win an nfl game imo. punt rteurning has to be addressed.

I'm still trying to figure out how they say the 'call stands' on the replay. They placed the ball on the 42 and he was clearly past the 42. He was either at the 41 or just in front of it. I would have thought they would have placed the ball near or at the 41 and measured.

Yeah I am still bitter than an official 7 yards downfield spotted the Ertz catch a full yard short. And of course, still bitter that there was no conclusive camera angle on the first down line to gain. I am convinced officials hate to have their spots reviewed. In their defense they generally do a damn good job but modern day technology should have that ball spotted easily. Have AI do it.
