Official Game Thread - Week 10 - Steelers @ Commanders

Yeah...I thought they could have called PI on that second one. Certainly have seen that called before.
I suppose it’s down to the db having his eyes on the ball. Unfortunate play for sure.

On the bright side, Daniels once again gave us a shot in 2 minute with the game on the line, and against a very good defense at that. Would have been a massive statement, especially at home, against a good Steelers team, and with Tomlin’s post-bye week record. Blah, now I’m depressed again, lol.

The more I look back and think about this game, the more convinced I am that it was a miracle we only lost by 1 point.

Steelers coming off a bye.
Rested.
On a hot streak.
One of the best defences in the league.
Well coached.
Quality QB on a hot streak.

Versus

Washington on their 10th straight game.
Desperately in need of a bye.
QB nursing ribs.
Injuries across the O line at crucial spots.
Missing our #1 RB
Flawed in our secondary and without the CB help we traded for.
Without our kicker and long snapper.

The odds were decidedly against us.

This was the first game where the offense looked tired. They didn’t look sharp. The dropped passes were a pretty indicative symptom of that. Our injury reports pre game told the tale of a wounded undermanned OLine, and the Steelers smartly took advantage by blitzing us like crazy, putting Daniels under more pressure than I think he’s seen so far this year. Indeed, while he wasn’t his usual slippery dynamic self, he was still pretty poised and effective, just let down a lot by any receiver not named Terry.

There’s also the fact that we have rookies all over the squad, including Newton filling in for Allen. I suspect the Steelers were banking on him being the player to jump on the hard count, I suspect they might have just punted had Allen been in there instead. But the rookie jumped and that was the game.

Two things I think are clear.

This team can hang with the best the league has to offer even when they’re beaten, battered, bruised, and don’t play their best game. We lost to Baltimore and Pittsburgh by a total of 8 points. Can you imagine what that differential would have been 12 months ago? They’ll learn from this, and with reinforcements in the offseason they’ll come back stronger and deeper and with more experience under their belts about what it takes to win. I can’t wait!

And 2… we need that bye week in the worst way!!!!

Any given Thursday :)

I did not pick us to win because statistically and based on the data, this one is a little bit of a mismatch. On paper, the Eagles should beat us.

But.... huge caveat is, our motivation factor. We had that Steelers win in the bag and we let it slip away (with lots of help from the lovely officials). Our guys are going to be playing pissed off. And a pissed off team is a dangerous team.

I also think they will let Jayden be Jayden in this one - they have to. And he is due for a good game.

I just find the guy from Philly on the radio this morning saying Nick Sirianni is an elite coach. I laughed.

Elite at what - use of the eff bomb and rudeness?
See You Thumbs Up GIF by Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are legitimately stacked--especially on offense. There is no reason they should beat the Browns by only 3. I'm hoping Sirianni is looking past us, somewhat. I kinda wish they played the Ravens the week after us.

On the other hand, Cleveland beat Baltimore a couple weeks later. Heck, in our game vs the Browns I thought we looked rough offensively until injuries and poor play by their offense helped us turn the corner.

Unfortunate we’re so banged up for this game, ‘cause I’d really like our chances with Lattimore and healthy OTs…

I’m still not sure why we didn’t kick the FG there….. Coach?

I think Quinn was seeing and thinking what most of us were. That the D was gassed and with Philly's offense rolling, forcing them to score a late TD to win would be better than just a FG.

I'm kind of with most though, take the points there and pray.

Watching Lamar play the Steelers don’t feel so bad about JD. I hope we one day have the talent the Steelers do on D.

The reverse will be the case in our game against the Cowboys. With the extra days rest and them playing tomorrow, I hope the extra prep/rest time shows up on the field for us. HTT...Washington Football Team
