My thoughts on the game, having slept on it.
Daniels played about as well as I think you can expect. I think those ribs hold him back a bit, the Oline was banged up missing key components (Wylie and Lucas), and our running game didn’t help him much (more on that in a sec). But he kept us in it, didn’t turn the ball over, and still looked mostly sharp. His stats would look better without the WR drops.
As for the WRs and the run game. These guys have got to be beaten up and tired. Our Bye week is still on the horizon and we were playing a Steelers D that is good PLUS rested. We just didn’t look sharp and they mostly did. Play this game with both teams rested and fully healthy and I think we win it. But… you play when you play. 🙁
It’s also evident that we’re not a complete team yet. While they’re pushing for a playoff run, games like yesterday just show where our holes are and where our depth lacks. I, for one, can’t wait to see another off season under our belts for Peter’s and Quinn to cook.
I’m also hoping (as mentioned in another thread somewhere) that DQ looked at this game cautiously in regards to injuries. This was a semi-meaningless game, where the Eagles game has much bigger consequences. If resting BRob, Wylie, Lattimore, etc for a few more days gives us a more complete team with more rested players at key spots, and leads to a win, this could have been a really good coaching decision. Shame we couldn’t quite pull off the win yesterday, but we were so close!!!
On a side note, I loved all the new people in the game chat! It was really something in there yesterday with the new faces! Loved it!
