Official Game Thread - Week 10 - Steelers @ Commanders

My thoughts on the game, having slept on it.

Daniels played about as well as I think you can expect. I think those ribs hold him back a bit, the Oline was banged up missing key components (Wylie and Lucas), and our running game didn’t help him much (more on that in a sec). But he kept us in it, didn’t turn the ball over, and still looked mostly sharp. His stats would look better without the WR drops.

As for the WRs and the run game. These guys have got to be beaten up and tired. Our Bye week is still on the horizon and we were playing a Steelers D that is good PLUS rested. We just didn’t look sharp and they mostly did. Play this game with both teams rested and fully healthy and I think we win it. But… you play when you play. 🙁

It’s also evident that we’re not a complete team yet. While they’re pushing for a playoff run, games like yesterday just show where our holes are and where our depth lacks. I, for one, can’t wait to see another off season under our belts for Peter’s and Quinn to cook.

I’m also hoping (as mentioned in another thread somewhere) that DQ looked at this game cautiously in regards to injuries. This was a semi-meaningless game, where the Eagles game has much bigger consequences. If resting BRob, Wylie, Lattimore, etc for a few more days gives us a more complete team with more rested players at key spots, and leads to a win, this could have been a really good coaching decision. Shame we couldn’t quite pull off the win yesterday, but we were so close!!!

On a side note, I loved all the new people in the game chat! It was really something in there yesterday with the new faces! Loved it!

Its disturbing the Chiefs and Lions are able to find a way to win these kinds of games but we cannot
I think that comes with experience. I think the Lions learned a lot last year and you’re seeing that this season. The Chiefs have a lot of experience in winning.

Washington are on that trajectory. Lots of young/rookie players (Newton isn’t gonna make that mistake again!) who are learning and growing. We’ll be a much more mature team next year.

Furthermore, I have little doubt in my mind that if Newton hadn’t jumped and we’d got the ball back, JD wouldn’t have used that minute to get us into FG range. He’s been Mr Clutch this year. Alas yesterday he didn’t get the chance 🙁

No next day thread on BGO, KDawg? :)

I've felt for some time that AP will target whichever corner SF lets walk this summer, either Charvarius Ward or Deommodore Lenoir (although Lenoir can play both outside and slot, he's excelled at nickel so might not be the ideal fit with Sainristil). I also have a hunch that Tee Higgins is on our target list, and ditto DeMarcus Lawrence.

Get those guys and you can go pure BPA in the draft.
Next day thread 😁

Still reeling a little from last night (not least from showing my ass on that Chiefs losing faux pas), while I agree about being way ahead of schedule, playing a good team close, the fact that if just one of those drops is caught we probably win really gnaws at me.

On the plus side it really shows how far the team has come in such a short time that this result is disappointing rather than an unusually spirited performance in a game we all expected to get destroyed in.

Knightingale If you don't mind me asking where in Brum are you? I live in Stourbridge.

Haha! I almost made a faux pas myself when Sky Sports were showing the half time scores from other games, and at a glance I thought the 49ers were whipping the Buccs!

And then I read it properly! I almost shouted out about in chat! 😂

I should update my bio, we moved from Birmingham to Worcestershire ages ago!!! Living in Bromsgrove now, so not that far from you. Merry Hell is about a 20 min drive from us.

The team has been over-performing relative to talent level. Next year we will easily win games like this. We don't quite yet have all the horses... and yet we still almost beat Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
Bold of you to assume they get better next season and not plummet back to earth.

Damn shame JD5 missed Luke on what may well have been a 90 yard TD. It took him a game or 2 to get dialed in and develop trust with TMC deep and dare I think he is working things out with Luke now. Luke had been wide open a few times earlier in the year and have been expecting to see his number called more but Noah remains firmly behind TMC as his #2 choice. Dyami and Zac did themselves no favors in that dept.

What's up with Zac. I think he needs glasses or maybe Quinn should try someone else. I can't recall a PR taking one off the facemask twice in a row. NW ain't the curtainless Jerry House where he's blinding his own players.

Just like the Ravens game, I've had it circled for a L since the preseason and I predicted a double digit win season.

The rookie mistakes don't bother me, but the drops were so bad. Sure JD5 missed a couple, but he was under a ton of pressure.

Rough day for our OL, but down two OTs and our C in and out, against that front 7? Pretty good. We definitely missed having BRob again.

Win or lose Thursday, this team is really good.

Good news... We got the correct QB in the Draft. Caleb Williams own linemen aren't even helping him up anymore. He holds the ball so long, just like in college, he's having a hard time staying upright. We know from our Howell year that if a QB doesn't get rid of the ball it's a long year for the offense.

Williams may still work out, but these guys so far are playing almost exactly, stylistically, as they did in college.

I was a big Maye over JD guy and it looks like they're both gonna be great. Never liked Caleb.

Imagine adding Jeanty and Warren in the draft.

I know we are in a different world now but that was one of my favourite threads. Enabled me to look back at the game, especially when I'd been drinking all evening!

UK Skins: We'll see. I think I'll be here more than in the past regardless, but before I go spending so much time doing those damn things again I want to make sure this is permanent and not semi permanent... Those are a real pain in the ass and I'd love to get out of doing them... But I'm not against it :ROFLMAO:

@KBHailRaiser: I think we DO need a Comprehensive Draft Thread here, regardless. I need to talk prospects in the worst way... Hmmm... Might start one of those in a bit, actually.

There's one here somewhere. I'll find it. It's quiet now, but with you, clskins, myself and a few others, it might start to pop.

You can do that here. It's mostly lawless. :eek:ls:

I have changed mine to the title "DELETE!". I can't figure out how to edit on this forum. I kind of like permanent errors. They're scars.

Yeah, I got way too excited then realised my mistake one second too late.

Nice, I used to work in Bromsgrove.

For what it's worth, I always appreciated your time given for the next day thread. Even though I deleted my ES account years ago, I still visited ES to read through that thread for your insight.
