I am aware. 2023 was the year back from ther ACL and he said later he didn't feel right and shouldn't have played.
He I believe was timed with the best get off in the NFL at edge last season. Had one of the highest pass rush win rate. He also plays well in big games traditionally especially in the post season. And its a position that generally ages well compared to most.

Philadelphia didn’t play any established starters in the preseason.
My Brother, I assure you that you are not alone in your fear/respect/angst over the Giants matchup(s). Not just back then, but now as well. NY has owned us even when they themselves were disregarded throughout the league. I'm quite optimistic about our chances against the league in general, just not against that team. This curse may take a little bit to reverse.

I am not sure anyone is expecting any more. I'd be thrilled with 8 sacks, playing 40% of the snaps or so? That's a valuable contribution. He's also someone, even at 37, the offense has to account for--which takes attention off Luvu, Armstrong.

He had a great win rate and 6 sacks.
I am watching where Luvu is and where Sainristil is. And I am running right at Von Miller.
If I am planning against our defense, I am not putting any emphasis on Miller.

He’s still been impactful on a per-snap basis in recent years, he just isn’t a full time player anymore. He’s not washed up as of the last time he was on the field though. And Quinn seems to have a pretty good program in place for keeping these older vets healthy and producing throughout the season after others see them as washed.
If Miller is playing the rotation we're expecting, he's going to be on the field for passing situations, so if they elect to run off tackle right on 3rd and 8 I think we'd all be ok with that.
If he gives us 7 sacks on even 50% of the snap count, that's a 'full' load pace of somewhere around 13 sacks on a season and I think that would be an absolute home run based on what we're paying, what else we have on the d-line, and what we're looking to do. I actually think him having somewhere around 5 - 6 sacks would justify the move, with the notion that he's also effective as a pass rusher without logging an actual sack. If he's out there and effecting the play by QB pressures, warranting a chip / additional pass blocking support, loosening up the other side, it's all 3 dimensional chess.

Witt doesn't normally come across as a guy that seems to overly praise players in his pressers, yesterday however he came off almost giddy about the new talent on defense combining with the remaining guys from last season. Specifically the DL and secondary. If the defense can be top half of the league this year and the O lives up to its hype, we may have something special.

That's cool. And i mean this light hearted back. And this probably the last time i repeat my point. Because I think the making fun of my point, while is cool, has unintentionally presented a strawman argument,
Boone summed it well, there are good arguments for either approach in the pre season. I don't mind the counter argument. I get it. Be fresh. Avoid injuries. But the argument to play your starters more, isn't loony, no matter how much some want to poke fun at it.
My point wasn't about the preseason alone. That's the crux of my point which is that its multiple reasons. Like any game, its multiple factors not just that one. But again to explain the preseason. It's not that our starters didn't play much. It's the juxtaposition that the Giants starters played plenty. And its not about all the starters but specifically the QB and WRs -- especially the QB.
So the fact that Hurts for example didn't play in the preseason. And also Dak didn't play. it starts equal. Also as to the Eagles specifically with that team's talent, I'd bet on them coming in cold in week 5 against whomever and winning let alone not playing in the preseason. So the point isn't an all emcompassing one. Depends on the matchup. I don't think this team is that much better than the Giants, that little edges make no difference.
If it was purely about the preseason though, I'd be picking Washington. So if people want to make the argument that my point is just about the preseason. I am with you. I'd make fun of me on that, too. But I didn't say that. I said its that AND...
A. O line needing to gel. Conerly's first game. Coleman's first at LG. It takes time typically. And they are facing quite a test to gel quickly
B. The outside Wrs missing camp-preseason. Burrow talked about not having Chase in camp last year hindered their early season chemistry
C. The outside WRs likely on a pitch count -- who backs up the outside WRs? We got really backup slot Wrs who don't major in playing in X or Z
D. I wonder about this team's hunger (this is a pure guess based on interviews-clippings) playing a team that they should beat -- Bram saying it was a low energy camp, etc. Giants come off hungry. I got that same vibe before the infamous loss in 2016 season. I'd ironically feel better if they were playing a bigger team where the motivation would happen more organically.
E. Giants just seem to have our number more than they should. At a minimum they seem to believe that they can beat us. Dallas and Phlly for example just whip them every season, I'd gather when they play those teams they don't come with swagger. They tend to play us with swagger.
F. Wilson isn't hot but he can throw the deep ball. Love what i've read about Amos and what I've seen in camp. But rookie CBs (including Sainristill) tend to struggle early. And Lattimore is a wildcard.
ANY game win or lose as to the matchup, I am rarely focused on just one thing. It's multiple variable things. it's context. Rarely for me to feel that one variable applies to every team-every match up. I am talking specfically about this one. And none of this is a whit of criticism towards Quinn. I got no idea if this approach is good or not over the long haul of the season. Strong arguments for either side on it. But specifically to this game, I do feel its ONE of a number of variables. Any of these variables taken alone could be made fun of if its framed as my plotline of why I am worried about this game. But for me its the combination of all of them. Not just one of them.
And with all of that if Thomas doesn't play, I think Washington wins.

Yeah Peters, too. I love the secondary on paper. But feel about it, the same I do about the O line which is it will be good as the season progresses, but fear it might take a few games. Rare for a rookie CB to be lights out from game 1. And I'll believe in Lattimore when I see it. I am not pessimistic about him. But I got no idea one way or another. I got a mixed vibe about him from those who watched camp. tough call.
I think this pass rush ends up sneaky good.
At the one camp i was at, the pass rush was having their way with our O line. Bit I think in particulatr Miller and Martin will surprise people. And then we got Luvu, Armstrong. Interior pass rush should be good, too.
I am worried about the run defense. I think that remains the weakness.
I am with you about Whitt, i am not sold. But I am open minded to see how it unfolds.

I don’t think anyone on here is getting their feelings hurt because you bring up valid points. As you said there are good arguments for and against holding starters out in preseason and I appreciate all the in depth info you provided on the Giants.
I can still be a homer and accept facts. As you say, will see.

Even if he does play, at this point Im not sure just how effective he will be considering he has not done much of anything this offseason, stepping into a full speed environment without going full speed even in practice is a big ask.

Got a lot of thoughts on the game and roster, but here’s semi-random, under the radar one that I’m curious about.
Do we use Medrano on D? He played a surprising amount with the 1s in preseason (even if that was more about resting Wagner) and I thought he looked like he belonged. Depending on offensive formation, he could provide a 7th man in the box vs the run, cover the middle/flat with Wagner and/or Luvu blitzing, and might be a fair matchup in man vs many of the leagues TEs given his size/movement skills.
On the other hand, aside from whether he’s ready or not, there’s a question of who he’s taking snaps from if he were to play. Is it Wagner on passing downs? Is it Amos with Sainristil moving outside? Do we play 3 dlinemen (with Luvu and/or Wagner rushing)?
Probably the likeliest answer is that he doesn’t see the field (beyond ST), unless maybe we sustain a key injury and Whitt tinkers with personnel groupings.

Hopefully so. Their o line is their weakness. But he is the domino that tends to make it fall apart when he's out.
OK. As I've said its not about the preseason alone. It's one of a number of variables. And that variable is relevant to me ONLY because the Giants took the opposite approach. But that seems to be the variable I get the most pushback on and it surprises me considering there really isn't some sort of hardcore rule on this point one way or another. Some smart people on both sides of the coin on it.
I've waffled on this game. Months ago, I saw it as an easy win. For the last two weeks, I've felt the Giants have the edge -- not as a team for the season but just for this specific game.
Now, am 50-50. lol, watching a video last night of 2 PFF guys predicting a Giants win, Simms saying its the best shot of an upset and Greenie, etc predicting a Giants win. Looks like the Giants aren't that below the radar about this game as I thought originally and the more I feel that the more I like our chances.
But for now, I am sticking with Washington wins with Thomas out, loses with Thomas in. Tight game either way. Feels like a toss up.
I am optimistic about the season. Lol, was listening to Sheehan this morning, and while Sheehan is postive as heck, he has them in the superbowl, a lot of his callers were negative about the season, one dude going as far as 5-12. Feels crazy but will see.

The PDSISD (Post Dan Snyder Induced Stress Disorder) is in full effect. We had a great year last year--so naturally, it's going to come all crashing down, and we will know nothing but sadness. It's a hard idea to shake, given it's what we've known for a quarter century. Due to that, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if we laid a big fat egg and lost.
I think people in the media want the Giants to be good--it's New York, the epicenter of the Sports Universe (despite not having won a major title in 14 years, even with 2-3 teams in every major league). I watched the PFF prediction--there wasn't much analysis there--and I read PFF a lot. They barely mentioned the terrible Giants OL--but said ours was still a question? They said the Commanders are worse than last year? How so? They glazed the Giants DL for about 90% of it. It just seemed like they were sold on the Giants being a good team. Maybe that's just me. They did, however, caveat their whole premise with they might be over-reacting. We'll see--I both love and hate Week 1.
(Side note: I think Simms is a complete dipshit--He has two major strikes against him: He buttons his top button without a tie and he works for PFT.)
