Official Game Thread - Week 1 - Giants @ Commanders

That's not a Dallas Eagle game thread brother :)

If someone wants to start one, go for it.

It’s impossible to quantify the impact preseason game reps have on how teams start the season. Coaches have different philosophies and the results are mixed either way.

That said, I very much prefer more preseason reps than less. Quinn obviously bought a lot of goodwill with me after last season. If this is what he thinks is best, so be it.

Fingers crossed.

Part of me feels like we are about to witness a juggernaut, the other part of me feels like I’m about to be very disappointed. I’m trying to convince myself not to make sweeping judgments on one game. But then again I know myself, not likely.

I get that. I am sort of the weirdo in the mix here because I am not confident about this Sunday yet am confident about the season.

I don't know if Quinn's approach is the right one or not over the long haul - for the whole season. I'll trust that it is. But I don't think its the right approach if the idea is to start hot as far as the first two games.

So even if they lose the first two, I'd be feeling OK. But considering I've had to debate so many here about the Giants who are mostly discounted as a serious foe (or not serious enough to beat us), I've got myself so immersed in the Giants roster and their strengths -- that its set up where a victory would feel even sweeter than usual for me. :)

If Thomas doesn’t play, Von will eat imo even on 20 snaps. Russ isn’t super mobile anymore and is prone to enormous sacks at times as he tries to make magic happen. The magic is tougher to come by at his age

Carter didn’t commit his bi-yearly vehicular manslaughter so he had to squeeze in some sort of crime before the urge became too great
He is truly a scumbag and the only player I can say I hate. Hopefully by the time we meet up with the Eagles he has got himself suspended for the remainder of the year!

Man, you have a lot more faith in Miller than I do at this point. He hasn't been a pass rusher that can finish for a few years now.

He absolutely has the talent, and lightning can strike. I am just not anticipating much other than a few splashy plays here and there from him.

Agreed! They need to bring heat from all different players and places to be effective...and we need them to get heat on these QB's!

Lack of pre-season reps is why Jalen Carter spat on Dak Prescott and got ejected. What's our panic meter for how many Commanders will get ejected 6 seconds into the Giants game? We barely played starters! Clearly the no-spitting game plan will be rusty to them.

Assuming this post is a jab.

Will see. I do think Von has something left. He was decent as a spot starter last year. Supposedly has had a good camp.

The other PFF guys, Monson and Steve P, both predicted a Giants win.

That might not be a bad thing, I recall Monson loving the Fitz signing years ago and thought they'd might be a surprise team that year. :)

He has been a guy that is able to pressure, but he has not been "Von Miller" for a few years now. It will be interesting to see what he has, but there is a reason he was on the free agent pile.

Of course, low end teams were probably calling, so the fact that we got him means he wanted to come to a team with a chance to win.

And yes, I think he will make some plays. I just don't see him being a major disruptor for us.

Definitely isn't who he once was. But he's now I believe 2 years away from his ACL injury. That usually makes a difference. He was not the same the year after that surgery. But supposedly his get off last year was still tops or close to tops in the league and in camp I've heard he still has that same bend.

I hope you're right. But he has been on the decline for quite some time.

I think he can get 6-8 sacks for us this season. More than that and, in my opinion, he has greatly overachieved and more than what we should think we were getting with him.

Agree its a guess.

And I don't think either argument can be mocked as dumb (not that you are). Because they both have merits as I've said. When you got people like Tom Brady, Andy Reid, Joe Burrow among others say it matters and it helps them i take it seriously. Conversely, of course you can get injuries.

And I also think it depends on the position. I can care less that Von Miller for example got reps or not. But I do think it helps for the Qbs and Wrs in particular for reasons other players and coaches expressed.

But that alone doesn't sway me. To me like I've said it feels like it matters if the other team took it seriously or not. Doesn't matter of course if the other team did the same thing. That's not the case here, though.

But heck even that all alone doesn't sway me. It's a convergence of different points which I've made that has me worried about this game. Some isolated just one of them but I've expressed several reasons. But as I've said if Andrew Thomas doesn't play, its a game changer for me. So will see.

lol, I forgot about this. On ES too, I've bemoaned some of the matchups with the Giants. And I took plenty of arrows and shots for it. It's my most unpopular takes over the years aside from the arrows we took on bashing Bruce Allen before it was cool to do so. It's hey dude the Giants suck. It's stupid to be afraid of the matchup, we are so much better, we will romp them, etc. Same rap for much of the tenure under Jay. Same rap for much of the tenure under Ron. I hope its not bad karma but the last time I was on this much of an island before a matchup and was treated some like a wild outlier was before that infamous loss at the end of the 2016 season.

But I likely back off on guessing an upset if Thomas doesn't play. Thomas is like who Jordan Reid was for us years ago - injury prone and when he didn't play, we'd lose. Same thing with the Giants.

Its the only place discussion was happening to these eyes so it was birffed! What is the preferred thread to discuss non NFC Beast games, like tonights? LOL at folks that cashed their chips in last night, positive the over was going to hit.

Back OT I love the first play from scrimmage to start the season. Old dogs know, it was a requisite run up the gut back in the day. Now, OCs are unleashed and able to attack. I know its unorthodox to some if we haven't established the run first, but I'd like a PAP deep ball out of a run heavy look. Line Bates up at FB for max protect.
