Offensive line- 2025

Good stuff. The verdict is not out, but I want Coleman to make it. For one, I love an underdog story and for the other, it'd be awesome if despite our handwringing Peters worked some magic and got it right.

Interesting article on Coleman. Can't wait to see how the team addresses the OL this off-season.

Daniels escapability certainly makes the OL stats look better than they should. I am expecting a new starting OT, and IOL depth talent if not a starting G. I still can't get over how much of a stabilizing force Biadasz has been, what a gem!

With all due respect to many of the teams' centers, I don't think we have had a really solid center for maybe 15+ years. I remember a lot of the names; Chase Roullier, Kory Lichtensteiger... there are a lot of names in there that stuck around and the team was just satisfied with what they were getting.

Personally, I think it's been an underappreciated sore spot on this team for a long time. I think the current regime has done a much better job with that position in particular, including when Biadasz went out, making sure that calls were being made from an experienced guard, rather than a rookie center; that, again, shows the respect the position's responsibilities deserve, and it has felt lacking for a long time here.

I am more optimistic at this point about the offensive line.

I think when healthy Biadasz, Coleman and Cosmi can be part of a solid OL.

We need a bigger, stronger player at LG and a RT with better athleticism.

On the defensive line I don’t see any anchors.

Armstrong/Fowler I think can reprise a platoon like they had in Dallas at one DE spot and be productive for us IF we draft or sign a premium rusher to play on the other side.

Inside this team has spent draft picks and money but the results have been atrocious.

Barkley and Robinson ran up the gut on this team like the DTs were mere speed bumps.

The days of top shelf play from Allen and Payne are over. Remember when Payne led NFL DTs in tackles for loss a couple of years ago?

You almost never see him make plays any longer.

Allen is on the back nine of his career and just coming off IR. I don’t expect much out of him vs. the run as he is fairly light at 301 and doesn’t have the quickness he showed earlier in his career.

Johnny Newton may develop into an interior rusher of note somewhere down the line but at 294 gets pushed off the ball far too easily against the run.

DT is one area where good teams tend to find guys in the middle to late rounds to plug up the run.

But for some reason across a couple of regimes now we spend high picks or money at the position but still get gashed by any quality back we face.

It is too bad but I do not think we can get out of the Payne contract. Maybe with a better team prospect for next year, he will up his level of play. Do you think Allen would resign on a much more team friendly amount. I would like to see him as the team starts getting good after the frustration. I thought Ferrell was supposed to be very good against the run. My question is why have we succeeded against the run in the second half of the last 2 games?

Looking at Free agency CB and WR looks very strong, there are some risky edge who have had injuries that might be a decent pick up. If we picked up:

2. G Trey Smith, Kansas City Chiefs

Smith's 80.4 PFF overall grade currently ranks 10th among all guards this season, and he will still be only 25 years old when free agency opens. That's a good combination for a big payday, given that multiple players at the position signed deals at or exceeding $20 million per year in 2024.

The complicated element when projecting a contract for Smith is the reason he fell to the end of the sixth round in the 2021 NFL Draft: He was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs. On the field, he is every bit of a prized free agent. Factoring in his health is the key question.

our offensive line would look up-I like BPA in the draft. It seems like the only place though that an OT can be picked up. Edge is deep this year. Maybe a DT in the 2nd, 3rd or 5th. If Lattimore holds up, a big if, we should be looking at a great team next year.

I think Allegretti is actually doing really well at LG, for the most part. He really stepped up when Biadacz went out, and started making line calls.

One thing on Coleman, dude missed the entire pre-season because of some injury I can't remember. (Ironically, Newton did also). And both are rookies.

I wonder what a full off-season program, mini-camps, training camp, etc. will do for him, because I think he has the athletic ability to be a really good tackle.

We won't be picking high enough to get an elite prospect at LT. However, there are always tackles available.

The thing is, they need to upgrade on the right side. Now, if that means upgrading on the left side and then bumping Coleman to the right, fine.

I definitely think they will look for somebody better at RT though. That said, I wouldn't be remotely surprised if they brought Wylie back, either as a swing backup tackle or starter until a rookie took over. He isn't terrible. You can just do better.

I would say we definitely want one of either Lucas or Wylie back next year. That way you still have tackle depth. While this year's tackles weren't great, at least there were 3 who could legitimately play before you got to Trent Scott. That's a nice luxury to have.

Agree. To me Allegretti and Wylie/Lucas are capable depth and spot starters.

On defense, we need to move on from Allen.

He has no more guaranteed money due and we can release him without consequence.

At 31 by next season he is better off elsewhere.

We need a redo on the DL.

I do think Peters acquired Lattimore for next year with the thought of him coming back to pro bowl form in 2024 after injury as a potential bonus.

Hamstrings are one of the hardest injuries to get back to 100% from without extended rehab and rest.

I was hoping he could make it back and he did help us win 2 games.

Unfortunately we are back to Michael Davis.

He makes St. Juste look like Patrick Peterson in his prime.

I would like to throw a huge shout out to Bobby johnson and the powers that be that kept faith in him after the mt vesuvius level disaster that was his stint in new york.
He has done an incredible job this year considering the level of talent he's had to work with.
Obviously a lot of the credit goes to jayden and kingsbury, if we had still had Bienemy and Howell I'm sure we'd be looking to run him out of town with torches and pitchforks but he still needs some recognition for how solid this line has been considering the circumstances.

How do people feel about how Wiley is doing this year? Allegretti played center in college. Thinking of Offensive line depth. If we resign Lucus, get a decent Tackle and kept Wiley we would seem to have great depth on the offensive line.

Allegretti is such a likeable player and gets the most he can out of his abilities but he is just too limited. Let him play the Schweitzer role and let’s go add a stud like Smith or Fries to take over his spot.

We lack All Pro caliber players and Smith is one of those guys

I think Coleman ends up being at least a solid LT if he stays healthy. I’d look at a RT prospect to rotate with Wylie while getting up to speed.

We got really lucky with injuries on the line, especially the interior line. We are so lucky we haven’t had to see Chris Paul this season. Let’s not bet on two straight years of this luck

I think Allegretti is better than that. He’s not elite, but he deserves a starting spot in the NFL

Lucas is a backup swing tackle.

Wylie is a low end starter or high end backup. If he’s released, somebody would sign him to start. While he’s not great, he’s probably one of the best 32 RTs in the NFL. He might be 28-32, but that’s better than 33-60.

I think they saw the disaster was more on the rest of the people, players and coaches, around Bobby Johnson than on him. He had a really good OL in Buffalo. The Giants were ravaged by injury and had terrible QB play and very questionable personnel and head coaching at times.

I’m glad our group can look at context. Something our media and fans seemed incapable of doing when he was hired.

Wiley is doing “fine.”

According to his ESPN Pass Block Win Rate, which uses player tracking data, Wiley had a PBWR of 93%, which is top 10 in the league.

Run Block Win rate, I can’t find. He’s nit top 10, and that’s what they list.

Hes better than the fans give him credit for but not great overall.

I give him and everybody else a mulligan for last year. EB just was a disaster. And Howell wasn’t good. And that effected everybody.

Any plan not including a starting OT would be a failure. I see it as the top priority for the off-season. Daniels made our OL's stats look better than they were. We need to protect our top asset first.

Unless mistaken, the starting IOL are set and under contract for next year. They should draft at least one planned as competition for next year and starter down the line. There are many options via FA as well.

This was the most shocking thing I read in this article:

That analysis found that the hit rate for drafting OTs in the first round who are better than Wylie in pass protection in Year 1 was around 40%. In round 2 it dropped to 25%. After that it was below 10% in every round.

I don't think Allegreti's contract is that bad, he could be a great backup if they can find or draft an upgrade.

One thing I think Peters and Quinn understand that fans struggle with: the OL is the sum of its parts and chemistry is often more important than individual talent.

The OL actually has good chemistry now, especially on the interior. I actually very serious doubt they actively go out to upgrade at LG. My guess is they’ll want to keep Allegretti/Biadacz/Cosmi consistent instead of trying to integrate a new player.

I do think they’re going to look at Tackle. But Wylie is under contract for next season. Lucas is not.

I could see them drafting a tackle. However, maybe not in the first round. And I could see Wylie starting again next year.

I’d actually really like them to re-sign Lucas. Dude is a perfect fit at swing tackle. Do that and then draft a guy to replace Wylie.

The other question is, how much can Coleman improve. Remember he missed all of training camp and is a rookie. Players get better with work and coaching. He's far from a finished product. And he’s been pretty good.

If you’re expecting whole scale changes on the OL, I don’t think you’re going to get your wish.

But I do think they’re will look to add better depth.

Sadly, I fear Trent Scott’s days are numbered…
