I don't believe that I've heard anything from Van Halen since the 80's lol. That 5150 album was about the last thing I remember they did. OK that is wrong, I remember the OU812 and the FUCK albums too.

Well, there really wasn’t much after that, lol. They released a Live album with Sammy in 1993 called “Live: Right here, Right now”. The final Hagar-era album Balance was in 1995. Falling out with Sammy occurs while they are discussing a greatest hits package and their last song with him of that era is “Humans Being” on the Twister soundtrack. David Lee Roth recorded two new songs with them for their first greatest hits “Me Wise Magic” and “Can’t get this stuff no more” in 1996…but they fall out at the MTV music awards that year, and the reunion goes nowhere. (Roth acted like a fool and pissed Eddie off). At this time, they had apparently given Mitch Malloy the job to replace Sammy, but he backs out after seeing the reaction to the Roth reunion at MTV. The band claimed they were set up for that, and Roth was never really back in the band.

Van Halen 3 arrives in 1998 with Gary Cherone from Extreme, some cool moments/tracks on there but it’s mostly forgettable. The tour in support was infinitely better because they played songs not heard live since Roth was in the band. Saw the show in 1998 at Jiffy Lube Live (then Nissan Pavilion). The band abruptly end the sessions for the second album with Gary and he exits amicably.

Nothing new until 2004 when their two disk greatest hits is released. (There were rumors that they were working with Roth in 2000 which apparently was true, but that went nowhere as well.) 3 new songs with Sammy, “It’s about Time” “Learning to see” and Up for Breakfast” on that one. They tour with Sammy, but Eddie is in a really bad place addiction wise and that tour ends badly. (Fortunately, I saw them in 2004 at Hershey Park, which was only the second show of that tour and things were good at that point. I thought it was a great show.)

Three years go by, Eddie cleans ups, and they reunite with Roth except this time Eddie’s son Wolfgang is on bass and Michael Anthony is fully out. (Apparently he signed his rights away to participate in the 2004 tour and he played as a hired gun). They tour 2007 and 2008 (great show, but Mikey is missed). Eddie basically admits he wouldn’t be doing it anymore if he wasn’t playing with his son. Their last proper album arrives in 2012 with “A Different kind of truth” and Roth on vocals. The album is mostly reworked tracks from their early years. Some of them are really good. The live album recorded in Japan at the Tokyo Dome arrives in 2015 and other than Roth’s rough (I’m being polite) vocal performance on many of the tracks…it’s decent musically.

Pretty much covers the band’s work from 1993 until Eddie’s passing in 2020.

I disagree…but that’s cool. There are many who agree with you. I’m one of those who liked just about everything the band ever did regardless of who was on the mic.

"Sammy throws a party? I am the party!"

Van Halen was cool, at first, but Eddie Van Halen was held back by being in a standard rock band. They never were even close to as good as Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple and they had the advantage of time and technology. It's like they didn't even try. Metallica did better with lesser talent. So did several other bands. David Lee Roth was a clown. So I understand pert of the problem. That's why they faded out. They were basic.

I'm not much of a Van Halen fan though lol. I like a few songs then wonder why they never evolved and did better things.

Van Halen (or Aerosmith depending on your taste) were the American Led Zeppelin, but I do agree they were never as great….and I’m as big a fan of Van Halen in all its iterations as they come.

The Van Halen guys would all agree as well.

I guess I’m late to the party but I’ve really gotten into Jelly Roll lately. I’ve been playing 2 of his albums on loop, especially in the gym. His authentic lyrics speak to me and they are vastly different than the myriad of current country(ish) artists that are leaning on pro song writers.

Dude has season track passes, he's really into moto and F-1...so he's there for the weekend.

But he's already called me twice and sent videos.

I appreciate your opinion... but I dunno man. Every album was so good. One through seven anyway. I bought my first zep album in like 1971. I was barely fifteen. I still remember. I bought it at Variety Records on the second deck of Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. I bought Led Zep II. Full retail. I liked it more than their first album. At least at the time. I'm not sure if Zep IV Zofo was out yet (see Red Wolves avatar). But as time went on, I grew to appreciate the fourth album, which was Zofo. But now, in 2025, I have to lean to the first album. But that just shows how great they were. To put out an album during the LBJ administration that people are still loving in the Trump administration. Not to take anything away from zep III - I love the track titled "Since I been lovin' you." I'd say, right now, this right here from the original album is my favorite Zep track - and this was a head banger before head banging was a thing:

I can’t argue with any of that Mark. I’ve been going back and listening to a lot of music from the 70’s and 80’s. Getting reacquainted with stuff I grew up on lately. Kind of reflecting a bit as 50 is drawing near. I was fortunate to have several uncles on both sides who passed on all their musical tastes to me at a young age. I was listening to 70’s rock when I was 7 and 8 getting hand me down LP’s and cassettes. Zep was a staple. For me the Physical Graffiti album was my first memory of hearing the band. Maybe that’s why I’ve always preferred that one the most, but I’ve also always been into prog and that is them at their most progressive lol.

Again, I know it was mentioned earlier but everybody needs to check out Becoming Led Zeppelin. Great documentary.

50 is drawing near? You're just a young boy! But that's what so cool about zep and so many other older rock bands - is that the younger people can find and embrace that early music.

Check this out. Let me preface this by saying, I've been to a lot of teen high school talent shows, right? Middle school, high school. Two hours. I like to keep an open mind, but after hearing some of this stuff for two hours in a high school auditorium, it's kind of like getting your teeth drilled. I mean, some of it's pretty good, especially my own kids, but some of it is, you know. But then you hear something like this which I'm about to post, and you can't help but appreciate, not just the fact that these kids can appreciate those early years, but that they are so talented. And that they're willing to spend the time to embrace the music. Check this out. There are no dubs here. Just kids with musical instruments. Note that the singer is sixteen years old. This song is from zep III. Turn it up.

Warm up to this song almost daily

You said I was the only
With my lemon in your hand
Uh oh
Uh oh ho
Exhibition is your habit
Emotion second hand
Uh oh, Uh oh
Had to pull away to save me
Maybe next time around
Oooh
And she said
"Don't you wanna?"
"Don't you wanna cook it, cook it, cook it?"
Hadn't planned to, could not stand to try it, fry it

I love every Zep song but Hot Dog
