Mock Drafts Thread

If picks one thru nine go like the draft above I trade down with the Rams and pick up a third round pick. At 14 you take Cameron Jordon for our struggling D-line or we could even look to trade down again.

If Quinn falls to ten, that is were I see a chance for NE or SD to move up and we could land a second round pick. With that seventeen or eighteen we could select one of several guys that could help us in the trenches on either side of the ball. Of course if the Shanahans saw there QB there they could go that way too.

So does Shanny take him at ten or trade back few spots?
 
If we can trade back a few spots and take him, then we do so. If Quinn is still on the board - Mallet too - at ten, then it becomes a very difficult choice.

A few weeks ago, I would've been ok with Mallet at ten. At this point, I am more than ok with him at ten. But if Quinn is there, I would give a slight edge to the defense.

My best hope is to drop back a few and get a third rounder, then take Mallet.

Minny perhaps, Miami certainly are interested in Mallet.
 
I found Rick Gosselin's first mock, courtesy of a friend who's lamenting the fact he's now hidden behind a paywall.

Boy I hope that's right. Most of what I see though says otherwise.

It seems they are high on Quinn, or on trading out of 10 if Julio is there, to pick up a second from the Rams.

I know you like Julio, I do too. What if they get a good trade offer for the 10 pick? That would almost assuredly mean 2 starters, likely on the lines.

Would you be opposed to a trade down scenario that gives us another pick or are you that convinced Jones is the man at 10?
 
It comes down to, do you want Julio Jones or JJ Watt/Cameron Jordon and another pretty solid WR or Offensive Lineman. I vote trade down.

If they get a good offer, then they have to take it. Like the first from St. Louis, and a second--no questions asked imho.

But yes....I believe Jones goes top 5 in most years. To have a shot at him at 10 is just crazy value. This guy is a big, strong Desean Jackson....a faster TO in his prime...WRs like that just don't come around often.

He will win games at the pro level. I don't doubt that for a second.

The idealist in me thinks we need to draft where we can have an immediate effect like either line, since the avg highly drafted receiver takes around 3 years to get the NFL game down.

The realist in me says we won't be truly competitive until then anyway so we should go after a receiver that could be the next Larry Fitzgerald.

I think the advantage in this draft is that we should be able to draft BPA and still do well since there is a lot of talent in a lot of positions this year.
 
I agree with you Elephant. Here is the thing:

I believe the lines are probably the single most important thing in all of football. That said, the Pack just won the SB without a great offensive line. When you have guys like Jennings and Driver, and a great QB who can get the ball to them....you can move the football. You now have a dangerous offense.

TO won many games by himself. So has Randy Moss, Fitz, Megatron and Andre Johnson just last year against us. Julio Jones will win games.

And no offense to Santana Moss, but opposing defenses don't panic over where he is prior to every snap. When the great ones line up, like the receivers listed above, defenses have to adjust or double them. And even when doubled, often times they still make the big plays. We haven't had that in forever.

How many times in the past has every single person in the stadium known that Randy Moss, Fitz or TO were going to get the ball--and they did, and they scored? Wow, would I love a threat like that.

And if we let him go to St. Louis, how many times will we hear Berman say this on Sports Center over the next five years? "The Rams had one last chance, and what does that mean? Of course, Bradford to Julio Jones. And they connect! Rams win on a miraculous play!"

so...what are the odds the braintrust is thinking as follows:

- our defense was horrible last season
- strong defense can make up for average offense
- this is a stromg draft class for defense

strategy
- draft
. dl/lb first round
. dl/lb second round
. 4th and lower: rb, fast WR, o-line depth

- Free Agency
. figure out if Big Mr WIlliams is coming back
. sign a quality guard to a reasonable contract
. run through the usual rb treadmill
. sign a quality DL
. look at multple CBs & safeties...maybe sign one

- Trades
. trade McNabb to Minn
. decide Haynesworth's future: cut him or trade him

Next Season
- get your QB
- keep bolstering the lines


Soooooo.....they'll draft Julio Jones!!!......:blush:
 
If you have been following a lot of the sites, twitters, forums, and various sources, the following could occur...

If Quinn is there at 10, we select him. If not, a deal may be already in place to trade down.

If the team trades down, a QB will be taken first. It appears as if Locker could be the choice if this happens, but don't rule out Mallet. If Quinn is still available, then he is still the choice. Under that scenario, the team will look at taking Dalton, Ponder, or Kaepernick. If Locker is taken, the next two picks will go toward impact players at OLB and DT/DE.

If Quinn is taken at 10, we still target the same three QBs in round two.

In later rounds, look for the lines to be addressed.

Also (if you believe many of these sources)...

Donovan McNabb is all but gone to Minnesota.

Carlos Rogers will be allowed to walk.

Rocky McIntosh could end up staying.

Ryan Harris will be a target in FA - when and if it ever comes.
 
I wonder who our target is if Quinn is off the board and we can't move down? Maybe Jones but he could gone too.

I honestly just can't see Mike Shanahan drafting a WR at #10 overall. I just don't see it - especially with so many other needs across the board.
 
Let's take the mock draft from Gosselin above except Amukamara goes nine to either Dallas or them trading down. I just don’t see the D bags taking an OT at nine. So with that scenario and we just can't trade down, who do we take?

I know where you're coming from....but what if he is head and tails above the other candidates on the board when pick #10 arrives? I'd prefer a d-line pick, but if Jones really is a game changer......I could easily live with such a pick.

Heard an assessment today that Quinn doesn't have much when it comes to the run game. Based on 09 film.....but nevertheless a warning sign.
 
McShay said that his sources are telling him that the Skins are, "crazy about Watt". Take that for what its worth being that he gets lied to a lot this year but he could be the pick

Have to trust Shanahan and the FO/scouts on this one. At least I have have faith than I did with Vinny. I'm not a fan of drafting a WR at #10 based on both Shanahan's and the Skins track record w/ WRs but if he's the guy on their board and they take him then I'll back him all the way and trust what the Skins are doing.

At #10 I'd rather see the Skins take either Quinn or Jordan. I'd really rather see a trade back and target Locker but we'll see.
