Maryland Men’s Basketball

Switched over to Purdue-Indiana game at 2nd period break in Caps game. Indiana was down by 12 at half. They’ve gone on a 28-3 run to start the 2nd half, to go up by 13. Be huge for Maryland if Purdue loses.

Thanks for this. I was watching some cooking show in the background. Indiana up 11, looks good.

Thank you Hoosiers for the big comeback win against your rivals.

Now, Terps need a big game Wednesday night. Xfinity better be a madhouse!

Wednesday game is huge. I’m hoping for a Gary Williams era atmosphere in there. They have had some good crowds this year, but it’s not the same. I’ll watch highlights from the Vasquez era and the crowd was still insane at that time. Turgeon really killed the enthusiasm in that building. The students and fans really need to appreciate what they are seeing from the team this year.

I've been pretty vocal about the crowds all season on a Maryland board. It's gotten better but it's not nearly where it should be given this is the exact type of team thay have been screaming for for a decade. This team is averaging over 80 points a game and are super exciting to watch, there is no reason we should be seeing empty seats.

Yeah, it’s times like this I wish I was local. There is no guarantee I could go to all these games, but being 5 1/2 hours away, there is no shot except if I’m in town visiting family. But I am enjoying watching these guys.

Feel ya KV. More like 8 1/2 for me. I’d LOVE to be there Wednesday night!

I do sound like a hypocrite as College Park is like 45 minutes away so I should be going right? But I went to the games a lot when I was young, now not really that interested.

Watched the Michigan-Nebraska game last night, unfortunately. Gotta be one of the worst games I’ve watched in a long, long time. Nebraska had every chance to do Maryland another favor, but couldn’t make a shot outside of Brice Williams. Both teams shot under 30% from the field. 95 points total. Just ugly.

Michigan makes problems with many teams because of their two 7-footers, one who is a primary play maker, but with Terps having two solid bigs that are athletic, they should match up okay. If Michigan shoot like they did last night, Maryland will run them out of Crisler Center.

45 minutes isn’t a small commute, plus life happens. But in college, it’s the students who are the majority of the atmosphere. I was a lot more enthusiastic going to games when I was younger. At the ACC tournament in 2004, all the rich people from UNC were mad at me for being so loud. I was jumping up and down the aisle on big plays. Now, I go to games and clap and cheer, but I always come home with my voice and am not jumping around like when I was in my 20s. This is part of maturing and realizing there is more to life than sports. But I still enjoy games and enjoy most of the atmosphere.

Gillespie took that final shot way too soon. And honestly he didn't get fouled on those final two free throws.

This is what happens when you face a very athletic, tall, and deep team. Gave up tons of offensive rebounds. Missed free throws, turnovers, basically played a horrible game. When Queen plays a tough defender he tends to play terrible.

Let me guess, you lost your passion when you were in your 40's. That when everyone I know pulled back their obsession.

As for the game WTF was that? I was so excited about the biggest game in years, even got the wife to sit in. She went upstairs at the 2nd timeout and my credibilty was shot, that game was so horrible to watch. Wasn't great defenses, both teams absolutely sucked on offense. MSU gave the Terps every chance to take a 12 point lead but not one guy could make a damnned shot.

I was so frustrated and disgusted with Gilespie's last shot, he had plenty of time to take another dribble, or 2 and a pass to Miguell for a much better look, I said out loud after the miss as Michigan State was breaking out "You deserve to lose". I actually wasn't upset that my team got beat by a half court shot, which was a weird feeling. No it was just frustration that our team was collectively so bad in their biggest game of the season

Yeah, the half court shot, what can you do about that. That’s such a rare play to shoot and make from that spot and even rarer for it to be a game winner. However, 55 points isn’t going to cut it. The team can’t complain about losing on a miracle heave when you only score 55. That game was lost well before that shot and I’d argue even before Gillespie’s miss, even though I agree he rushed it. But I did tell someone, better now than in the B1G tournament.

Rough loss. They’re gonna have to bounce back quickly, as going up to Penn St. is gonna be no treat. That’s a MUST win if they want to be in the top 4.

Bad game last night. Guys looked WAY too amped up early in the game, and never really settled in. Nobody not named Rice had a good game, and they got away from some things that they had been excelling at offensively. Props to Mich St., as they are a terrific defensive team, and that kept them tight in the first half. Terps are a really good defensive team also, and they made things tough for the Spartans.

Too many mistakes, and too many “off” performances. Miguel got done in by his two super early fouls. Gillespie seemed to be trying too hard, and not letting the game come to him. Reese is Reese. He’s got talent, but when you need him to man up, he becomes marshmallow man. Queen was okay, another double-double, but if he could ever develop a quick little pull up jumper on those drives, he’d be almost unplayable.

Tough loss, but showed grit getting it to a last shot opportunity to win. Drive to the lane Ja’Kobi, for a floater or kick out there!

Team will be a tough out in tournaments though, unless you can play defense like Mich St., and not very many can.

I have pointed out all season that they don't have that one guy they can depend on when they need a bucket to win the game. It's a good thing as their are options but we sure could have used that guy last night. Gilespie was off and a bit out of control all night. When he threw up that 3 six feet behind the line when he had the time to take another dribble, or as posted a few more for a floater or a kick out to Miguell for a much better look, I was upset.

But I went into this thinking this is a great opportunity with little to lose. I personally don't give a rat's ass about the Big Ten tourney and getting the bye. Unless you win it all it's best to bow out and not play a ton of games right before the tournament that really matter.

I get what you’re saying about the conference tournament, but getting a double bye gives them less games, and getting at least one win will help with their NCAA tournament seeding.

Win the tournament? Absolutely. But that like never happens at Maryland. I get it affects the seedings in the tournament that matters but there is not really that much difference between being a 4 and a 5 or 6.
