So if they're 9-3 and looking for a home playoff game, you think they wouldn't shoot that elbow up? Or are things really different?

Good chance they do if he was playing better and a bye or the division was at stake, absolutely. That’s a very different reality than we’re in though. He looked like shit and like the pain tolerance was an issue, so good chance he wasn’t getting the good shit they had in the 80’s and up through Favre’s career. Torodal or whatever that they don’t use much anymore. And invalidates what you said—bc in that case it’s not about the QB’s you named, it’s about the team success (or lack thereof). Which is pretty different from our historic 80’s-early 90’s teams.

Your post more accurately would have been “if this was a good roster with a good record this year they'd put the needle to his left arm, numb it up and he'd play”.

If this was Theismann,Williams,Rypien etc(sorry Riggo44) they'd put the needle to his left arm, numb it up and he'd play.

The most amount of shots/injections I've ever seen was in the field with certain teams units. People would be jacked up and refused to miss an op...no matter what. Again, in the 80s... don't know what it's like now. I've heard of people being being amped up on speed or certain types of amphetamines.

I got a double dose of morphine once, after a bad jump...I was in heaven. But it knocked me out. I remember the helicopter lifting off and then I woke up in the hospital. That's it.

I was in the camp of playing JD if he was fully healthy...but if Tunsil is injured and gonna miss time, nah. shelve him.

Mahomes out with an ACL tear. Im going to hang on to the slightest of silver linings in that JD5 didn't suffer a serious injury this year requiring extensive off season rehab. Knock....

There is a really interesting parallel story to what happened to Mahomes and Daniel this season. Now, clearly Daniels isn't at Mahomes level yet, but Mahomes and Daniels both suffered from a receiving corp devastated by injury. Mahomes, even as great as he is and with a defense so much better than ours, couldn't overcome it. Daniels, too, was hamstrung by the loss of Ekeler, Brown, and Terry, for almost the entire season. As much as yesterday's story was about the running game, it was also about the fact that we finally had receiving weapons. So, I really don't know how much of Daniels sophomore slump was due to poorer play versus poorer cast. That said, he has to figure out how to keep himself on the field. That will be his and his coach's primary goal for next year.

But, I still contend that very, very few quarterbacks could have succeeded with the weapons that we trotted out for most of the year.

This is just irresponsible. To insinuate Harris would interject himself is just idiotic.

Owners weigh in on this stuff though.

It’s something to talk about, but that’s about it. Of course the coach would prefer play his best players.
Harris isn't going to tell Quinn to bench Daniels. Peters isn't going to tell Quinn to bench Daniels. I don't doubt Peters and Quinn had a discussion, probably informed Harris of their decision--but to insinuate AP or Harris had to dictate it is ridiculous.

Is JD out for the rest of the year?

Yep

So year two wasn't a slump it was a complete debacle. I just hope AP gets next year correct, otherwise we are back to business as usual for the past 30 years.

I don’t really agree with you here. AP absolutely has the right to weigh in on this, and even overrule Quinn at this point in the season imo (if he had to—I’m not arguing that he did). Quinn is a coach. We no longer have coaches who run the show. AP is responsible for the long term goals and roster of this franchise, and it’s not always reasonable to expect the week-to-week competitors like the coaching staff to have the same thoughts.

This falls into the EXACT same category as benching and making inactive a player you know you’re about to trade so as not to mess up the opportunity. Which GM’s do to their HC’s all the time when necessary.

I don’t find it far-fetched, but then again I also don’t find it to be any sort of conspiracy. If I thought it was inappropriate I guess I’d be more defensive about the idea as well, wanting to see this regime as doing things professionally. But I think this is both normal and professional, so I don’t find myself pushing back on the idea as unrealistic.

The same way it is sometimes a coach’s job to save a player from himself, sometimes a GM has to save a coach from himself.

Now, I wouldn’t be surprised if Quinn fully agreed with AP and it was more of a discussion. I’m not at all arguing that Quinn NEEDED to be overruled. I’m simply saying if that was the case, it would be normal and not a big deal. Quinn is game planning for this week, and worried about the rest of this season. You pay your GM to have the long view and to be disciplined when others wouldn’t be in pursuit of those long term goals.

Honestly, I'm okay with this. I think he needs a reset mentally and physically. Beating his head against a wall and doing the same thing the same way over and over again isn't a good way to improve.

This is unhealthy thinking. If it turns out AP sucks and gets it wrong the next couple years, we’ll eventually have a new GM and start over and have another shot to get it right. Anything is possible when your decision-making apparatus is structured like a real sports franchise and accountability matters. Nothing is a continuation of the last 30 years, now that the rot doesn’t start from the top each regime has a normal chance at success. We don’t need one miracle GM to be the savior or worry that all is lost anymore, we just need to iterate until we find what works. If Peters sucks we’ll hire the next attempt at Peters and have hope again. That’s how sports are supposed to work as a fan, we just forget because of Snyder. We aren’t in the wilderness anymore but it doesn’t mean this regime is our only shot at normalcy or success.

Maybe I took it the wrong way--just seemed like Fat and Not Funny were insinuating Peters or even Harris had to overrule Quinn and force a decision on him. The relationship between Quinn and Peters seems much more collaborative than authoritarian.

I also really dislike that show in general. It's insipid. So, I may be biased. They should stick to food drafts.

I understand your point completely, but on the other hand? I disagree. I do not want to make the old quote about steel on steel, but based on my experiences in life? Real life battle experiences sharpens the soldier.

But I also do not want a Patrick Mahomes injury either

Regardless of who weighed in and who decided -
I imagine the injuries to Parsons and Maholmes kind of sealed the deal. You don't want that to happen in meaningless football. You do want the reps, but as long as the injury risk is real, it's tough.

I get you. There are two sides to the coin right now

So in addition to working a real job, I thought a bit about this today. As much as I hate it and as much as I would love to go with the whole “if he’s healthy, he should play and it sure as hell looks like he’s healthy”thing, I think we all know this is the right thing. Looking at the next three games, I just don’t see any benefit in putting him out there with the crew we have assembled. If anything, I think we learned this year just how bad the offense can be if Jayden isn’t right. He’s the franchise quarterback who stirs the drink. That’s a scary thought for our franchise, but it’s reality right now. For whatever reason, he’s had some nagging to moderately serious injuries this year. And I fear it’s a symptom of things to come if something doesn’t change. It’s time for them to cut bait for this year, and the team needs to get him into a serious conditioning program. If the result of that program is that he weighs a solid 220 pounds, but runs a 4.6 40 yard dash instead of a 4.4, that’s fine.

Yep

All that's needed to complete the circle is for 5 to announce " All in for Week One."

And we need the Washington Post to slowly leak rumors about his mom making demands, and Jayden secretly meeting with Josh….…. Oh hell no this is getting creepy. Both shut down “for their own protection” with 3 games left in their second year after experiencing nagging injuries and on field struggles. But still “the franchise.” We’re still good right?
