I'm Giving This Organization Until The End Of Next Season.....And Then No More

3. When was the last time you saw New England have a punt blocked against them, or a blocked field goal? Who was the POTUS at the time? Our entire coaching staff sucks! It's a normal occurence for a blocked punt or FG for us--it doesn't even phase us anymore. This doesn't happen to real teams. And these are Shanny's coaches. From top to bottom, the entire coaching staff is a disgrace.

Sorry, but two things immediately came to mind after reading this:

9. Patriots. I guess ... but honestly I don't think about them all that much other than for the fact that 'the Patriots do it this way so we should too' never seems to go out of style. Sorry but what the Patriots do is start Tom Brady at QB.

why wait then?

if we are so incompetent and you are so fed up, why wait?

Hard to leave after 35 years. And hoping that someone with sense sees we aren't going anywhere with these coaches, and at least makes an attempt at improvement.

I don't necessarily even care about the W-L. What I do care about is seeing blocked punts, and guys named Haslett on the coaching roster, and acting like that's okay.

Not sure why the defense or Haslett would be taking a beating today...the defense kept us in it yesterday, not to mention looked like it might out score our offense again.

Henry,
You're not alone. You put quite nicely how I feel about the whole thing. If it weren't for the redskins i wouldn't watch much football anymore. I've already all but given up on fantasy football, and I only do that for friends/family that want to have a place to do it.

There are a lot of people that feel the same way we did. There are/were a lot of rumors behind capgate about the real motives of it centering around the NFL not having to admit that for the first time since the salary cap was introduced they were going to have to reduce the caps for all teams in the league. The cap is a % of revenue. Reading between the lines - the league made less money. This got them out of that, and is how they got the NFL PA to sign on.

It's going to be interesting to watch the league over the next 10 years.

Our defense was fantastic yesterday. I just stole what's below from another site. Have you seen this?

And if so, why would anyone think he should be employed here?

New Orleans: Jim Haslett really began coaching in New Orleans, where he was the linebackers coach. He followed up then new coordinator Monte Kiffin after only one year at the helm. You will begin to see this pattern of following great coaches in the following paragraphs while he builds his career. Haslett, like Kiffin, got only one year at the helm of New Orleans defense and upon inheriting Kiffin's defense produced a team ranked 13th in yards allowed and 20th in points, as well as 28th in takeaways. Not very impressive. Kiffen went on to produce a top 10 defense the next 10 years in a row in Tampa Bay.

Pittsburgh: Its the move to Pittsburgh that set the stage for the grand larceny of Hasletts career. It is his time here that solidified him as a legitimate defensive coach in many minds, providing a secure future, and jobs many years down the line, even with a lack of proven success. Primarily, Haslett has Dick LeBeau to thank for that. See, Dick LeBeau was the defensive coordinator at that time. Dick Lebeau's defense was the start of what would be a dominant steelers defense under LeBeau. They were top 10 in every category for both of his two years prior to Haslett, and that included being 3rd, and 2nd, in yards allowed in 1995 and 1996. LeBeau was lured away to Cincinati(before he came back to Pittsburgh and produced 6 #1 defenses in the NFL in his next 9 years at Pittsburgh), and Haslett began his Pittsburg career. Haslett went straight to work...dumping the defense down the toilet. In his first year Pittsburghs defense dropped to 6th and 11th in Yards and Points respectively, the next year down to 12 and 7, and the third to mediocraty at 11th and 12th. On an average NFL team those were good numbers, and hence why Haslett was then regarded as a legitimate NFL coach. But hindsight is 20/20, and when you look back and see the defense he inherited, and how it plumetted in the 3 years he was at the helm, and how they immedietely returned to prominance the two years following(ranking 7th and 6th in 2000, and then 1st and 3rd in 2001), the picture of Jim Haslett begins to become just a little clearer

New Orleans #2: So it is with this decent resume, though in my opinion not of his own accord, he set off for New Orleans. Mind you, not that it was any fault of his own to accept a great job opportunity given. But for a person regarded as a good defensive coach, he would soon be exposed in New Orleans. Haslett would again follow up a big name coach, this time it would be Mike Ditka. Now Ditka had had a lot of success with the Bears, but was miserable at New Orleans. Jim Haslett began his career there with perhaps his only decent coaching year, coaching them to a 10th and 8th ranked defense in 2000. It went downhill in a hury from there. The next year his defense dropped to 16th in yards and 27th in points allowed. The next year 27th and 26th, and in fact, his defense at New Orleans would only finish better than 26th in points allowed in ONE of his last 5 years there(out of 6). After 2005, he left New Orleans, having coached a very woeful defense.

StLouis: Haslett then got another defensive coordinator job. This was probably because the assumption was because he was decent in Pittsburgh, maybe he just couldnt be a head coach? While on the surface this made sense, this proved to be a very wrong assumption. Over his 3 years coaching the St Louis defense, they were ranked 28th, 31st, and 31st in points allowed. He left St Louis and what should have been his last defensive coordinator job. But the Redskins werent having any of that non-sense talk. They for some reason wanted Haslett, no doubt for top secret insider info on St Louis, who always seemed to beat the Redskins.

Washington: And so, we have his current tenure. It started out dubiously with a defense ranked 31st in yards allwed and 21st in points. It then didnt get much better, with the next year the defense was ranked 13th and 21st, followed up by 28th and 22nd, and so far 27th and 28th this year(Yes, I know its early).

In this context, why would defensive problems surprise anyone?

I don't know exactly what has happened this season. Since I started watching the Redskins in 85/86 as a kid, I have watched every single game they have played in its entirety. Until this season. 4 games in, and I have not watched a single game start to finish. Why? They haven't been worth watching. I have so much to do lately, that I can find better things to do with my time than waste 3-4 hours watching this team fall apart, not tackle, get their kicks blocked, blow coverage, and basically play like they're the Browns. I haven't watched more than 3 quarters of any game we've played yet. And I'm glad I haven't.

As much as I love the Redskins, I value my health a lot more. As I'm sure a few of you understand, their play this season can make your blood boil when you get as emotionally attached to these guys as I do. I have a pretty unhealthy obsession that physically messes me up when they do something stupid or play horribly. It sends my blood pressure through the roof, and my adrenaline stays elevated the rest of the night and makes me feel like ****. So when I get to that point, I have to quit watching. It isn't worth it to watch such a mediocre product embarrass themselves.

All that being said, I wish they would play better. I wish they would be competitive once in a while. I'm obviously not a bandwagon fan, because I've stuck it out through far worse times and I would never root for any other team for any reason, but I'm burned out. Like Henry, I'm just sick of the NFL at this point, and it's Führer Goodell's fault. Dan Snyder has just gone out of his way to not help things any. This entire coaching staff is worthless. Not one bright spot anywhere. When you get beaten soundly on all sides of the ball on a regular basis, why don't you try something different, since your pathetic gameplan obviously failed? They seem to be oblivious to the fact they suck.

The only thing that will ever cause me to quit rooting for the Redskins would be if they cave like pussies and change the name. At that point, I would be done with football completely. I hope it never comes to that, because I love football, but this garbage that the NFL has become is an embarrassment to the sport.

The defense has outscored the offense 21-10 in the first half this year. Would love for the defense to continue scoring, but would prefer to see lopsided numbers for the offense.

PS - Henry is going to be a Giants fan if he leaves the B&G over his love affair with LT.

Don't be bitter because I won that debate. :)

What Henry said plus a another reason of my own.

I am tired of the "Look at me, Look at me!" attitude of the average NFL player. Defender makes a good stop and he celebrates. WR makes a first down and he celebrates. There is too much fist pumping, head bobbing and celebratory dancing for me. These guys celebrate the corporate equivalent of sending a good e-mail. If I celebrated the little things that are a routine part of my job the way these guys do I would never get any work done. Ever. It is a big part of the reason I am getting into soccer as much as I am. They celebrate goals like there is no tomorrow but when 2-1 is a solid score line goals are worth celebrating. They are hard to come by. Any WR or RB worth my paycheck, much less theirs, should be getting more First Downs in a half than most soccer players get in a couple of games.

Just do your damn job and save the celebrating for really rare and important things.

I am closer to quitting on the NFL than I am the Redskins. And if I quite it will be to support a soccer team somewhere.

Sometimes I wonder how many of those instances are simply an attempt to fire up themselves and/or the rest of the team, in a motivational aspect, which of course is a good thing, as opposed to it being an act of attention-seeking. No doubt, the latter occurs often, but since they may outwardly appear similar, perhaps the former appears more often than we are aware.

I have always been and will always be a lifelong Redskins fan. Do I think good times are ahead for us? Hail yes I do, but if they are not I am not leaving this team. If you are ready to give up, good go we do not need fans like you, go be a puke fan! For the rest of you HTTR!!

McD5, as Bill Clinton once said "I feel your pain".

Doesn't mean I'm jumping ship though.

This team over the years has had many Charlie Brown/Lucy moments. By that I mean, just when you think they are about to turn the corner and become a good team, they blow it.

And to me, the start of this season has been one of the greatest Charlie Brown/Lucy moments in team history.

Think about it...
Drafted our franchise QB who had one of the best seasons as a rookie in the NFL's history, found our "bell cow" rb who finished second in the league in rushing yards....

7 game win streak...win the division...everything that points to this team finally on the upswing after two decades plus in the wilderness....all lifted the fanbase's expectations. Even lead some to declare "Norvitis" dead.

Hell, even had me turn to my wife before our opening game and say "I think we're actually going to be good this year honey."

Only to have "Lucy" pull the ball away as we were about to kick it.

Silly Charlie Brown. What a blockhead.......

I was going to post a picture of just what this thread needs...a box of Vagisil. Then I thought that it could be considered insulting to the diehard female fans here. So I didn't.

Should have, but didn't.

So, I just had a big birthday over the weekend and I caught myself complaining during the game about how many commercials there are now and how they interrupt the flow of the game for me and my home viewing experience. And, like some of you, I find I'm more and more disappointed with the watered down product we're seeing nowadays - players penalized (fined/suspended) for helmet first or hard hits. So many rules and restrictions on how you can hit a receiver or quarterback. No horse collar.....nothing below the knees. Concussions, concussions, concussions.....

Bah humbug.

Look, the reality is that the nose tackles back in the 70's were in the 250-275 lb range and the receivers ran wicked fast at about the same pace a 325 lb. lineman runs today. Players are bigger, faster, stronger.....and as a result - like it or not - they're a lot more dangerous. As much as I dislike the rules in place today and would much rather see people get clotheslined, for safety sake that simply cannot be. I will continue to have to adjust, adapt and grow along with the sport or not watch it.

And I will always watch it.

I'm a Redskins fan. Have been...always will be. Some plays I have to close my eyes and fight back the tears....and on others I get to cheer wildly. Some games I watch live in person....some live on TV....some recorded on my DVR. All very different experiences but with one common denominator.....I'm watching MY team. And that's a good thing in any light. I've been a fan of this team so long I can now practically anticipate when Lucy is going to pull that football away. It still doesn't make it any easier to swallow, but that's sort of the draw of it if you really think on it, isn't it? Yep, it's an up and down affair......and I'm as impatient as the next guy...but at the end of the day I'm not going anywhere. It's the Redskins, afterall.

My reaction to MCD5's post is to simply shrug and say "Well, don't let the door hit you on the way out". I figure he can head right on over to some other forum or water cooler where people whine and quit when things aren't going their way. God help his family or co-workers when times get tough. I, for one, wouldn't want to have to count on someone like that. Life's a bitch and sometimes doesn't go exactly the way we want....but we all have to find a way to muscle through. The only other option is to give it all up, and that's just not what I'm about. I honestly can't understand why someone would consider not watching a team they so obviously care so much about.

Leave, pal. Leave them for us.

Man - you guys are a tough crowd. I'm sure everyone here has made a post they'd like to have back. It happens.

It's a tough crowd, but sometimes a measure of tough love is needed. All I ask is for 5 to keep the faith and you will be rewarded.
