But you can only win the game in front of you. If that's not good enough, don't watch. I won't judge.

No ones happier than me they are done. But to be fair, they were that one reversal away from the NFC Championship (I'd call that deep into the playoffs)

I had a friend who's a Cowboys fan, yeah he's demented, was talking about the run his Boys were on.

When the subject of the picked up flag of last week came up, everyone was a hater and when I posted some video to his Fb page showing how wrong that was...he just responded with a clip of Ric Flair going " Woo!" Multiple times.

This evening? "We got screwed!," to not a peep.
They are in a class all their own...

They were also 1 missed PI away from possibly sitting at home this weekend... just sayin.
 
Not to mention that the reversal should never have even been necessary. The rule's been enforced for a long time now and the ref was right there when the ball came loose. At best you could say they were there if he'd held on to the ball.
 
I think it's a pretty tough call to make at full speed. Bottom line is, they at least got it right per the current rules. That wasn't the case on the Detroit flag pickup call.
 
The thing I saw was when he was in the end zone the ball came out of his hands. That made it obvious.
 
The absolute best angle was looking right over the shoulder of the ref. And yes, the ball came completely out of his hands right in front of the ref. Really shouldn't have been tough in my opinion. At that point that's what he should have been focused on.
 
Hard to watch the unbelievably great play Dez made on the ball, and not have common sense whispering in my ear that it's a catch. But I am comfortable that the reversal was correct based on the technical application of the rule. Whether the rule is a good one or not, I'm unsure at this point. But at any rate that's a debate for another day.

One thing I AM sure of? If Dallas gets the call, and scores there to go up by 2 ... with over 4 minutes left ... they're still going to lose. No way in hell they keep Aaron Rodgers, the way that freak of nature it playing, from driving leisurely down the field for the win.

My thoughts exactly Om. That call was irrelevant, they were going to lose anyway, Rodgers was unstoppable at that point.

btw...was the same rule (or similar) applied when Griff bobbled the ball crossing the into the e-zone?

The part I never liked about the Griffin ruling was them calling him a receicer. Clearly he was running and never threw a pass to himself.

So, to me, it was a runner fumbling and recovering in the air

Sad that my memory isn't good enough to confidently respond with the details, but I'll do my best. The gist of it is that it is a similar rule, not the same. He wasn't considered a receiver, he was attempting to regain possession. Griffin lost possession of the ball before crossing the goal line. He grabbed the ball and had possession as he crossed the goal line, but he needed to complete the process of regaining possession through his contact with the ground, and he did not. Technically the ground did not cause a fumble on the play, the ground prevented Griffin from regaining possession.
 
The thing I find funny about both situations (the Detroit game last week and Dallas vs. Green Bay) is that both teams who perceived that they were screwed over by an official's decision had opportunities to put the games away on their own accord, but failed to do so when the chance presented itself.

Detroit was up 14 points early on Dallas. Additionally, they went the whole 3rd and 4th quarters scoring only 6 points. On Dallas' winning drive, the Detroit defense failed to make a stop time after time on critical downs.

As for Dallas against Green Bay...they had an 11 point lead in that one and let it slip. If memory serves me correct, they also gave up a TD on a 3rd and 16 play during the game.

For as much as both teams want to harp on the officials, the games never should have come to the point where a ref had a hand in the outcome. Both Detroit and Dallas failed to make plays when the crucially needed them.
