Fred Davis: See You Later Gator

Dominate!

I agree Boone - I just think it's high hopes to think he's going to change. At least the issue is settled. Davis will be back and will have an opportunity to prove himself.

Stay out of trouble, stay healthy, put up big numbers and he'll get what he thinks he deserves.

While I was excited to get out of the fred davis business, I'm not disappointed with this. Seems like a level headed way of going about it.

Look at what flawed but motivated players do in contract years - remember Haynesworth ripping up the league when playing under the one year franchise tag?

Hopefully Davis can do the same and the Skins can get a nice compensatory pick for his signing elsewhere in 2014.

If anything, we're getting a shot at having him play his heart out for "the big one" instead of paying a player tons of money who had "the big one" on another team or against us.

That in itself is a major change in team philosophy anyone can get behind.

Listening to 106.7 this morning, I had no idea how many "issues" he has had in the 5 years he's been in DC.

I feel its important to list all of his transgressions because me, I like him as a player but I guess with all the travel I missed a lot of this stuff....

  • Rookie Year Overslept Missing Minicamp team officials had to be sent out to find him.
  • At least 7 Moving Violations between 2008 and 2010
  • Multiple violations for tinted windows and driving an uninspected vehicle.
  • Driving with a suspended/revoked drivers license.
  • Reckless Driving.
  • Falsely Identifying himself to a Law Officer.
  • Bizarre court case defending himself (barely) in a civil suit in which the defendant alleges the player "dumped juice" on her head and "busted her lip" "assaulting, harassing and threatening to kill her." The defendant was an alleged "pimp".
  • 29 Traffic Tickets in Virginia Since 2008
  • Suspended 4 games in 2011 for multiple failed drug tests reportedly for marijuana.

Am I missing anything?

We've all read this book before, but here's a reminder for those with short memories.....

1. We signed him to a 1 year deal, which he could use as motivation for a payday.

2. He could/should play to the best of his abilities this season, just to prove everybody wrong.

3. He will want to be rewarded with more years and more money.

4. We will give him more years and more money, because we will think he is a changed man.

5. He will slack off for the duration of his contract, and get suspended for Ricky Williams-ing it.

6. We will cuss and scream, and shake our heads in amazement that we were conned again.

Since we have no choice but to put up with this clown for another year, I really hope that no matter what he does this season, we cut all ties after it's over. No matter what he does this year, it will not justify a multi year deal. This has setup written all over it.

Yeah I agree, the team needs to just say NO when this one year deal is up. Just like Freddy shoulda done when he decided on smoking ganja.

Man that's a non driving sumbitch with that many vehicle violations.

I fear the limitation for him this year won't so much be the attitude or his desire to play for the Skins but more his Achilles injury. For a player that depends on speed and agility, the Achilles is critical.

Yep, but on a one year deal favorable to the team.

Would I rather have another player at TE who comes in as a rookie without taking 3 or 4 years to grow up?

Yes, but we lack the picks and FA dollars until 2014.
