Eric Decker signed with the Jets and look at his deal. He is two rungs down from Jackson as a playmaker.

Look at the deal Mike Wallace got in Miami last year.

How about Percy Harvin in Seattle?

Playmakers come at a premium and I was expecting more guaranteed money actually.

I think the size and length of the deal is a surprise to many people.

Remember that just a week ago the Raiders gave 31 year old tackle Donald Penn $10M in guaranteed money over just 2 years.

Wanna bet they aren't top 15 when those cap numbers go up? That was part of my point, their salaries are top 15 now but that will change when other WR's trump that in a future market that won't have such a deep and rare draft's shadow looming over it. This draft is by all accounts maybe a once in a life time draft in terms of depth and has a crazy WR crops if all the analysts are right.

But for me it's simlpe. Produce. Do that and the money is worth it.

This all sounds like rationale for not worrying about how much we spend against the cap, and that's a very very familiar bit.

The point here is that we now have a LOT of money tied up in our WRs. Our top three WRs are now getting paid fairly substantial free agent money. Market value or no, our #2 guy is making what most teams pay for their #1 guy. That's not insignificant. That's a risk.

Even if Jackson is all we hope for, our financial game plan on offense is to apparently build around our WRs. I don't necessarily think that's a great plan. How many teams win doing that?

We've all been banging this drum for years: Build a team. Have a plan. Don't just bring in guys just because. Is spending $20 million of our cap space on three WRs part our blueprint or are we doing this on the fly?

I said it earlier I think our offense could be really good, but I'm not gonna be giddy about this. We've seen this before. We've grabbed for the offseason Brass Ring many times without thinking things through. I want to see him play, I want to see this offense go, I want to see us win games, before I get excited about this one.

That the Redskins made it--understandably--colors it with a layer of doubt.

One thing we DO know for sure this morning? Opposing defensive and special teams coordinators are going to drink a lot more Monster the next ___ years during Redskins week.

And that would be mostly a valid response. Bellicheat and the Patsies organization have taken in several malcontents over the years without it blowing up in their faces. It didn't always work, but it didn't destroy the locker room either. The Redskins have had pretty much the opposite results aside perhaps from Merriweather in recent years. I'm not counting the safety from the Bucs has he wasn't here (or anywhere) long enough to evaluate. In fairness to us though, our culture has come a long way in recent years, so it's possible our locker room, coaching staff and DJax's getting a bit older/wiser might be enough to keep him in line. I certainly hope so but we'll just have to see.

I agree that there's a huge upside here given the presence of Gruden and the other pieces we have on offense. That said, if he turns out to be a major headcase or Aaron Hernandez part deux, it could totally derail the start of Gruden's tenure. That's a LOT of risk given that we need Gruden to be here for several years for the sake of Robert's development.

We can't go into the season with Garcon, Morris, and Reed with possible health issues. We have to give Griffin more weapons than that.

Roberts and Jackson may have not bee the best solution, but someone had to be brought in. Hankerson and Robinson weren't going to cut it.

The good news is we also retooled the o line, brought in guys for special teams, added a few guys on defense, and still have the draft.

With the signing of Jackson, I've come to the following conclusions:

1. Gruden and Allen have made it clear that they want to put Robert in the best position possible to succeed as an NFL quarterback. If we go O-line heavy in the draft, this will only make it all the more evident.

2. It's imperative that Robert Griffin dismisses any doubt that exists out there about his ability to be an elite NFL quarterback this coming season. With the offensive weapons they've put around him, it's falling squarely on his shoulders this time around - not his knee and not the offensive line.

3. Anything that Ax has said about Desean Jackson is complete smoke and mirrors. Expect him to select Jackson with his first pick in the BGO Fantasy Draft.

There have been too many guys coming through Washington with expectations of hopefully being the answer (or part of the answer) to our WR needs and failing to deliver long-term over the years.

We've tried the draft, we've went the free agency route.

At this point, I want to be excited, I'm just too scarred to believe that a guy with character concerns will be able to overcome and accomplish what many of the other guys who have come through this town haven't been able to do.

Thankfully, he's not working in isolation; however. Pierre being here does bring me a sense of comfort when looking at this signing.

Desean doesn't have to shoulder the load himself and that's comforting in a sense - something many other WR hopefuls we've had haven't had the luxury of saying.

Sadly, the common thread amongst most of our attempts in the past to correct the Receiver position has been the fact that we've done it while dismissing or ignoring needs along the O-line.

With this move opening up opportunities draft wise, it's crucial that we don't continue spinning our tires by ignoring glaring needs in the trenches.

I will be extremely happy if we pick up some OLine depth in the draft. If we draft a starter, I may cry (of happiness).
