That's the beauty of opinions. You're asserting that he'd be great as if it's a certainty. I don't even think he would be ok. Not compared to what we could get at a lower cost both financially and drama-wise.

I never his greatness was a certainty. I said his numbers, even not counting this past season, are not mediocre for a #2 WR. And they aren't.

I also said his head and personality were a big question mark. About three times.

I used to care a lot more about the character of players etc. But I'm at the point (sadly) that I couldn't care less about that crap. I care about one thing and one thing only...wins. If this kid comes here and produces I really don't care if he's the poster boy for the douchebags of the world off the field. We've done the nice guy thing and gotten nothing worth speaking about. So while I want it to be done sensibly (of course) I voted to sign the kid. I think the ONLY reason Philly let this kid go is money. These "issues" weren't really big enough to warrant conversation until he got cut, now all of a sudden he's a cancer. It's the Philly M.O. when they cut someone. It's classic spin. Seattl;e and NE have proven that you can and most likely will win with those super talented a-holes. MOST of the players from "The U" are douchnozzles and all they seem to do is produce at a high level. Being nice in football is overrated. As for signing rivals...really? We signed Hatcher and have done the cross division swap countless times...it should be old hat by now. The days of getting attached to players should be done...it's a mercenary league, only teams are worthy of loyalty.

Sorry if I don't get gaga over a guy who almost never scores, vanishes in crunch time and the red zone, doesn't produce half as much as his hype would lead you to believe he does in yards, and rarely catches even 60 passes (which is still underwhelming considering how many not receivers do better than that every year).

Ok. I didn't argue that point. Neither did anyone else. I just think that no head case is worth any price, but especially one who isn't the elite talent people prop him up to be without numbers to back it.

I think the difference for me personally is that we haven't shown ourselves capable of winning, much less winning consistently enough to handle this kind of Beavis (K, you are the new go-to nickname producer ). Someone said winning is a great deodorant, and whoever it was that said that was on the money. But we're coming off a 3-13 season, and the most optimistic people I see have us going in the 8-8 - 10-6 range next year, which means we might contend for the playoffs, MAYBE. That's not winning enough, or being consistent enough to know for a certainty that our locker room can handle this ass clown.

Maybe when Griff is up for his third consecutive Super Bowl MVP I'd be ready to have this discussion...

I can respect that Goalde and don't begrudge you guy's attitude over it. But for me it's down to "Just win baby". If they can do it with this kid I'm good but just like I'm not going to get all geeked out over what might be good signings, I'm also not going to start stepping towards the ledge because of a guy I don't like. Wait and see and just win is where it's at for me. The rest? Meh.

Yeah, I get that too. There is a large part of me that wants to win at any cost. I have two things holding me back from giving in completely. First, I think we have tried this approach before with little to no success, so I'm unconvinced that DeSean is going to magically put us over the top and give us more wins. We have spent countless off seasons diagramming plays we think will be ten times more effective because of player x's arrival, only to watch and see it totally fail. To me, the cap hit just isn't worth it. As Henry said a while back, if we could get him for $4M a year, then I guess I'd have to shut up about it.

...except that my second bone of contention is that I just don't like the guy. At all. I've yet to read even the slightest redeeming note about him at all. Even Philly fans I know kind of roll their eyes when asked about him. I hate rooting for dicks.

I think a high risk move like this would make more sense for a team a player or two away from challenging for a championship. That doesn't describe the Redskins. I would prefer we draft a young future star (of course that assumes we are capable of finding him) than spend significant amount of money on a guy who, at best, likely only has another 2-4 years of high level play in him. We should be in full blown rebuilding mode, not win now mode.

If he can help team without breaking bank or causing problem then I am on board. He isn't worth it if disruptive.

i have no idea. it's really easy to quickly say thanks, bu no thanks. but we all know this team has struggled to get over the hump and become a regular contender in the league, so are we really in a position to just say no thanks to talent?

but i also care about the type of guy i'm rooting for, and there are rumors of gang relationships as well as locker room cancer issues.

i don't know what to think other than i hope we do our homework whatever our decision is.

those are strong accusations that have potential long-term ramifications, that can amount to millions of dollars lost, and at this point are mostly unfounded.

to be able to anonymously leak that is just so cowardly and wrong in my book. if the eagles felt that way - then either say it and support your assertion or keep your mouth shut.

The DeSean Jackson story has seemingly had it all lately, but no free agent pursuit is official without a good “mystery team.”
Now, he’s got that covered.
According to Ed Werder of ESPN, ”two teams not identified publicly as having interest in DeSean Jackson are in deep negotiations.”
Jackson is in Washington today, though it’s “unclear” if the Redskins are willing to meet his price. The Raiders and Bills have been amoung the usual suspects from the start, along with the Jets and the 49ers. Since they’ve all been named, that would ostensibly cross them off.
The Chiefs and Panthers, among others, have made it clear they weren’t in on this deal.
The great thing about a mystery team is that it could be anyone. (Let’s just toss the Browns in there, they’re always good for a splash.) Or it could be no one. But having two of them only adds a layer of intrigue to a process that had plenty already.

You still don't seem to recognize the gap between 'elite' and 'mediocre #2.' There is a big area between those categories. The guy isn't an elite #1, but he isn't a mediocre #2 either. It's not either/or.

I don't even see why Washington is bringing him in. Bruce Allen has never been one to overspend and the only way Jackson signs here is for break the bank money.

On a one year deal he could go to SF or NE to try and win a SB and then become a FA in 2015.

So if Washington was serious the team could afford Jackson.
