Hey Nobody, don't let your dislike for your perception of the man's character interfere with your ability to process truth. Like him or not, Jackson is an elite talent in the NFL
If you truly believe that, I can't even discuss it with you. 55 catches, 4 tds, and 950 yards per season is average at best, nowhere near elite. Numbers don't lie. Even last year, his best season by far, his numbers didn't approach the elite receivers in the league.

Jackson's ability to stretch the field would open things up tremendously for Garcon, Reed, and company. There are very few guys that can stretch the field like he can, and he's made huge plays at critical times throughout his career. There's just no denying his ability, no matter how much you dislike the guy.
It's not about disliking him, it's about being realistic that his numbers show he is not the elite talent a few starstruck fans are acting like he is. As far as making huge plays at critical times, that's the exact opposite of what he actually does. Most of his huge plays that he's known for happened either at the end of a blowout, or in garbage time when they had no shot of winning. I've watched more Eagles games than most non Eagles fans ever have, because damn near all of my closest friends, and coworkers over the years, and part of my family, are all Eagles fans. I assure you, he's not elite.

He's more known for making stupid decisions at critical times than he is making big plays. And he's nonexistent in the redzone, where critical is every snap.

If he wants to stay in the NFC East, and play with a young, up and coming QB like RG3, maybe he will take a reasonable contract to play with the Skins.
I hope not. I hope he chases crazy money, and I hope it's anyone but us giving it to him.

I've always thought Jackson was kind of a punk as well, but if wants to play for the Skins for a fair price, and is willing to work hard and wants to win, I say sign him up.
I will never cheer for him. If someone lacks character, and their talent doesn't match the hype, they're garbage as far as I'm concerned. That's one thing I loved about Gibbs - character mattered. Would you want Vick here? Incognito? Did you want TO? Keyshawn? Some people just don't deserve to be given the world just because they tell you how magnificent they are and you believe it, he happens to be one of them.

DeSean Jackson: Career Stats at NFL.com

3 seasons over 1000 yards. last year he was a top 10 WR and 300yds out of first place and 14 away from Pierre's numbers. the guy finishes top 15-20 in eery category out of every WR in the league. you cant deny that he is a top WR..no matter how much you try to.

I think it took Garcon an additional 31 catches or so, and 58 more targets to get 14 more yards than Desean.

He can ball. There's no doubt about that.

He had a good year, I'm not taking that away from him, I'm just looking at the big picture. Top 15-20 isn't elite, that's just my opinion. For contrast, Ryan Tannehill and Chad Henne aren't elite QBs. But they finish top 15-20 every year.

woah...hold up now. dont get carried away and call him better than Pierre...thats our boy ;)

I'd never do that. But DHall actually made a few good points when talking about Desean. It was also mentioned a few posts earlier. He could be the perfect compliment.

Desean simply lining up prevents teams from loading the box.

Morris benefits immediately.

Then Desean goes deep. One or two people have to go with him.

Garcon can now shred all over the field, and Jordan Reed will be covered by a linebacker. No linebacker is going to stay with Jordan Reed.

It could get nasty......very quickly.

Personally I don't give a crap about his personality.
This isn't a popularity contest....it's a skilled competition.
If he can perform on the field, it don't matter if he's a douche.

People make the same mistake when voting for Prez
They vote the most "likable" guy. The one they'd like to have a beer with. Even though, in reality, they will never have a beer with the Prez
But personality don't mean squat, in that office.
Again, all I care about is, can the Prez perform.
I don't give a rat's *** if he has the personality of a rock, or of a douche.

That's not the point...if he can't stay out of trouble, or causes drama in and out if the locker room, those are problems that can effect the team. Good lord man, we just got done with a season that was very nearly nothing but drama and look what transpired. And while you may not care what kind of a man you are cheering for (I don't mean that to sound critical, just sounds like that's your position), others do.

I hear you Boone. The inside the locker room stuff could be big.

I'm not sure he's in jeopardy of actually missing any games though from suspension. He's played 6 years now, and hasn't been suspended. Could that change this season? Of course it could. But it hasn't happened yet.

Philly actually extended him less than two years ago. And they guaranteed him $20 million.

So they obviously wanted to extend him pretty badly after knowing him for four years.

"if" is the operative word.
Is there strong evidence or history to support that he can't stay out of trouble, or can't stay on the field, or causes problems in the locker room ?
Has he missed any games because of this ?

I'd say getting outright released in your prime because of 'who you are' is pretty compelling evidence. That alone would seem to indicate that the guy is bad news.

Extremely talented people get fired from jobs, for pissing off the boss, and then go on to perform well, elsewhere.
We don't know what went on behind the scenes. Maybe he called Jeff Lurie a ****-head, or slept with his wife
Doesn't make him useless for the rest of his career.
We don't know the whole story.
I think Bruce and Jay are smart enough to be able to interview him, do a thorough background check, a character check, a reference check, to see if there are lasting issues with him.

We know more than you're conceding ... I've already posted articles highlighting some of those issues. And stars don't get released for pissing a coach off. You're right that we don't know the whole story but I'm betting it's worse than we currently know, not better.

DeSean Jackson enters PFT?s Free Agent Hot 100 near the top | ProFootballTalk

On Monday, Washington gets the first shot at meeting with Jackson, a 27-year-old wideout with rare speed.

Whomever signs Jackson will be getting the best player left in free agency by a wide margin. PFT places Jackson third in its Free Agent Hot 100, a ranking of the top unsigned players first published at the beginning of March.

There is no getting around the mystery of why the Eagles let Jackson go. There is also little doubt the Eagles did him no favors letting him go this late in free agency.

However, Jackson is, at worst, an above-average starter, and at his best, he can affect the game like few other wide receivers. What’s more, he could produce at a high level for several more seasons. In short, he is a very skilled player available at a time on the NFL calendar when the draft has just about pushed free agency to the back burner.

It's possible that the Eagles believe Maclin is now back at full strength. Riley Cooper has certainly emerged as a solid TE. And they just recently added Darren Sproles.

And all are far cheaper than $10 million Desean Jackson.

Maybe he's expendable in their eyes? He may have fallen asleep in a few meetings, and maybe the coach is trying to send a message?

Dump his huge salary, and take a shot on a younger, cheaper WR in a draft loaded with them?

This topic literally caused WWIII at our family BBQ tonight.

All I have to say is if we sign this beavis, I'm buying a Jackson jersey and making my brother wear it the entire fricking season.

Random players, yes. Above average or top notch players? Nope. I can probably name at least a dozen players playing right now, who if you remove their best season, they'd still have above average numbers. Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Jimmy Graham, Aaron Rodgers, Adrian Peterson, Calvin Johnson, Wes Welker, Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald........and that's just off the top of my head.

The only thing he has been consistent at is catching 50-something passes a year, 4TDs, and under 1,000 yards throughout his career so far. The fact that some Redskins fans think that makes him a great option doesn't speak to his talent level so much as it does the fact we've sucked so bad at the position for over 20 years, that anything more than 25 catches seems appealing to some.

There's a reason teams aren't tripping over each other to have a shot at him, and it isn't just because he might have mental problems, because many many teams overlook that and they have no interest in him either - even the ones who need a receiver.

I never said he would be brought in to be our top guy. This is just a comment people keep making based on something I never actually said. I said he will probably want top spot money, and us being us, we will probably give it to him and he isn't worth it. I also pointed out that he thinks he's a #1 WR. That's not saying he would be our top guy, that's foolish.

As far as not thinking he would be a good #2, it's because he wouldn't be. Not at the cost when the draft is 3 miles deep in crazy WR talent, and not with the drama that wouldn't be absolutely guaranteed if he comes here. Distractions cause problems for the best teams, imagine what a distraction would do to this team. Then there's his inevitable toddler-like fits he would throw when Garcon puts up another 100+, while Jackson would cry like TO about not getting the ball enough, which he has a history of doing anyway. Then he would attack/blame Griffin, Griffin would throw to him even less, and the DeSean Jackson saga would take center stage in D.C., and it would all be happening while he wasn't producing and being a waste of space.

That's the beauty of opinions. You're asserting that he'd be great as if it's a certainty. I don't even think he would be ok. Not compared to what we could get at a lower cost both financially and drama-wise.

Man, that is a shitload of typing that wasn't necessary. All you had to say was that you were wrong when you said "he's got the numbers of a mediocre #2" receiver. Because really...that's just crazy talk.

One of my biggest worries is that somebody got tipped off in the Philly front office that there's a pending league action against Jackson coming for some sort of violation. The league seems to drop those bombs at the worst moment, like the night before off season work outs, training camp beginning, or opening day. One of those, by the way, the guy you just gave the big contract to has a 4 game suspension to begin the season for banned substances... have a nice day.

Pretty big assumption. Look we all think of him as a douchebag but lets not forget 10mil a year is a big nut for any team, the iggles are usually a little more responsible than that and they got caught. He wouldn't budge. They thought they could trade him, oops. Why is this such a dramatic mystery?
