Thing is he is facing much bigger and faster players than he was facing in college. That is the main reason I pounded the table against him with the frame he carries. I hope and pray this year was a fluke. But I doubt it was. Lets not forget he missed time in that outstanding rookie year as well.

He didn't miss a full game his rookie season, getting wacked on your ribs can happened to anyone. He played in the SEC, with plenty of NFL caliber players.

How do we know he's a franchise QB? He was just getting his feet wet with Kliff and now he'll have to learn a whole new offense in a few months.
There's been alot of QBs ruined in this league because their team constantly changes OCs.
You just have to hope #5 survives this and is able to grow into the ever elusive franchise QB.

Yep. One of the hallmarks of the Snyder era (and probably one of the biggest barriers to success besides the owner himself was the constant change. It’s hard to win in the NFL and it’s even harder when you are constantly replacing key personnel.

I get that this isn’t Snyder and that some of these changes my have been needed. But it doesn’t alter the fact that they are blowing up their coaching staff just 2 years past the last coaching staff purge.

Jayden seems to be a fast learner, I think he'll be fine learning a new offense if need be. I do think his instinct to take off and run will reduce if we get the line right in the off season. If not, he might be staring down the injury barrel again 🤷

I don’t know… this sounds like Kingsbury and Johnson had a specific disconnect with someone on how things should be done and that caused them both to be set free.

Whether they are right or wrong remains to be seen, especially because we don’t know for sure. But this reads like the two of them had a different vision for how things should be done than someone in power, whether that be DQ, Peters or both.

I mean it’s even possible Johnson quit. It’s also possible he stunk, the players didn’t like him and he was canned.

This is a mess, though. Harkens back to the last 34 years.

I agree, that’s likely what happened, that’s what I was implying but I wasn’t super clear. Definitely a disconnect between what Quinn thinks he wants and what he thinks he can get from Kliff (and Johnson I guess)

You draft a QB and hopefully put him in the same system for years in hopes he learns and grows.
That hasn't happened here and now he's going to be inside a new system in barely a year and a half.

That's not something to brush off.

Worked fine for Caleb Williams and Drake Maye. Trevor Lawrence. Going older, fresh starts and new offenses have done wonders for guys like Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, Daniel Jones. It’s not a big deal, if you hire the right guy and he’s good. Daniels has a great work ethic and he’s smart, it won’t be a problem unless we botch the hire.

It was tough for McDaniel to get a HC opportunity, despite lots of interviews, at the height of the Shanahan assistant craze because of his personality and demeanor and weirdness. I think it’s possible he has to wait a while for another opportunity if he loses this one. But who knows

Yeah, McDaniel should be a lifer OC. I’m sure players like him but he’s just not the guy who’s going to command the room. I figure the rest of the NFL has figured that out.

My god, I’d cry tears of joy if somehow he gets let go and comes here to craft a long relationship with Jayden.

If they ended up with McDonald as OC and he fired well with Jayden, would he become a valid HC candidate in 2027? It would suck to bring in a new OC that could leave after one year. I think that is what keeps sticking in my head with a lot of the OC options being bantered.

This is the same sort of thinking that has warmed me to the idea of cutting bait with Quinn now. Quinn's uncertain status causes 2 distinct problems:

1. It limits the number of quality candidates who might otherwise be interested in the job: who wants to hitch their wagon to a falling star if there are other more stable options out there?

2. If a new OC (or DC for that matter) comes in and does a fantastic job, that person will help to save Quinn's job and might very well move on to a HC job and be "one and done" in WAS. Quinn would then need to find a replacement of equal or greater quality and the process would begin anew.

I doubt that very many people see Quinn as the long-term HC solution in WAS. It is a bit of an awkward situation to be sure, but that shouldn't stand in the way of the team's best interests. The analogy of a marriage was used earlier in this thread, but I don't think that is really the best comparison to make. A marriage is a lifelong personal commitment based on love and morality. You definitely don't (or shouldn't, at least) dump your spouse if a hotter prospect shows up. An NFL franchise is a billion dollar business that has many moving parts and many layers but only one objective: to win as many football games as possible. If there is an opportunity to get more wins and improve (as defined by the beliefs of the ownership) by upgrading personnel (from team janitor up to GM and/or HC), then that opportunity should be seized without worrying about hurting anyone's feelings.

We are done (I hope) with organizationally generated internal garbage gossip. I hope so.

The main evidence is the T McLaurin situation over the summer. A LOT of JUNK from the TMac camp. Little to none from AP. I was pretty impressed. There was some garbage from the other side, and AP's comments in general were like "I like McLaurin, want him on the team" kind of comments. So far, I like how AP does PR, I like how he handles himself in pressers, a LOT.

So far, I haven't seen any evidence that the FO/org is engaging in junk talk. Any gossip is being driven by the media or potentially by agents of the coordinators who were let go (mutually or otherwise). That is largely uncontrollable, as we saw last summer with McLaurin.

I couldn't find it--I thought it was Schultz. But yeah, more agent gobbledegook. That was my point. Not everything that's reported is fact--especially from the National media.

People are rushing to give Russini 100% credit, when she wasn't accurate. She said the rift was with Peters. It was with Quinn.

However - and this is the kind of thing media guys will try to manipulate FO people to get quotes with - if you don't push "your story" out there, what do OCs think? They only hear the other side of the story, and it sounds like a well regarded OC was let go. Why would they want to join that team?

DQ being a lame duck, I think it can easily be explained, but how will they explain Kliff being let go? I mean - sure they can explain it in an interview, but will they get the interviews they want with the prevailing notion being sour on how they handled the previous OC's situation?
