If they ended up with McDonald as OC and he fired well with Jayden, would he become a valid HC candidate in 2027? It would suck to bring in a new OC that could leave after one year. I think that is what keeps sticking in my head with a lot of the OC options being bantered.

Exactly why many of us didnt want a defensive Head Coach. If their offense are halfway decent their OC's get poached constantly.

Udinski with much more hype and was much higher on the food chain as to running the offense, Blough's been assistant QB coach. Udinski offensive coordinator but the HC called the plays.

The more I read about him, the more I think its not happening, Jax could block the hire.

As soon as they fired Kliff, I accepted Blough would be gone, he likely goes to wherever Kliff goes.

Yes. I probably didn't explain it right and my bad but I was putting Udinski over and above Blough but I think Blough gets his opportunity soon to be OC too. Personally, I'd like to see him stay here as he seems to have formed a tight bond with JD.

I think Harbaugh could get Schoen fired if that’s the job he wanted, and bring in his own personnel guy. Like what Coen did before agreeing to take the Jax job last year. Coen had less leverage and had to actually tell them no, and agree on a contract adjustment with Tampa, to make it clear he was serious. Then the cogs started moving and Baalke disappeared. Harbaugh is Harbaugh.

I could see that even though Schoen got the nod to stay as Harbaugh's availability could turn plans upside down. Schoen definitely appeared to be on the edge of being gone anyway...according to those NY mediots that is lol

Losing both hurts. Hard to tell which is more important as they both had big roles this season. Mariota performed extremely well in my eyes and was great with Jayden

It sure feels odd that they have cut the OC and some of the offensive coaches prior to hiring a new OC. They could want to keep some of the existing coaches or interview them and learn things prior to their departure. These actions do not really feel like DQ moves unless they already have the replacement and there has already been discussion. This is not a normal process. Also, they need to follow the Rooney rule right? unless their pick is a minority

How do we know he's a franchise QB? He was just getting his feet wet with Kliff and now he'll have to learn a whole new offense in a few months.
There's been alot of QBs ruined in this league because their team constantly changes OCs.
You just have to hope #5 survives this and is able to grow into the ever elusive franchise QB.

It's a very precarious situation this franchise sits in right now.

I may be in the minority and it probably isn't as special since the rule changes on blocking but I have always liked the zone run scheme. I could see our backs doing well with that.

I don’t know… this sounds like Kingsbury and Johnson had a specific disconnect with someone on how things should be done and that caused them both to be set free.

Whether they are right or wrong remains to be seen, especially because we don’t know for sure. But this reads like the two of them had a different vision for how things should be done than someone in power, whether that be DQ, Peters or both.

I mean it’s even possible Johnson quit. It’s also possible he stunk, the players didn’t like him and he was canned.

This is a mess, though. Harkens back to the last 34 years.

But agree with your point in a sense if you don't believe he is a franchise QB, or think he's a big question mark -- ala we got another Jason Campbell or Patrick Ramsey potentially or whomever, yeah next season might suck and the future is bleak.

But I am not in that camp. And recalling some of DWinzit posts who I was responding to, I don't think he's in that camp either.

But yeah I'd buy this is a "precarious situation" if I thought this season going south had nothing to do with leading the league in injuries. But when your season goes to hell with injuries, your season almost always falls apart.

Now if Jayden in college was an injury prone QB or had a serious injury with future implications, I'd be scared. But i am treating this as a one off considering so far in his career this is an aberration versus here we go again.

You draft a QB and hopefully put him in the same system for years in hopes he learns and grows.
That hasn't happened here and now he's going to be inside a new system in barely a year and a half.

Yes.... if you don't go full in on the type of linemen that only work in a zone scheme. I don't think we'd be in danger of that because we basically have the line settled for next year, but that has always been the problem with the Shanahan zone scheme... small / mobile linemen who get mauled if you get into "must pass" situations

That is more long the what I was sensing. It smells like AP could have some involvement which also leads back to some of the initial media led rumors of there being a disconnect between Kliff and Peters . That scares me some because as I'd posted prior, I don't think that's kosher in some ways. Like he is over-reaching past his HC. I hope that is not the case

Yes I see Jayden as a franchise QB. I do believe he is best suited to be used in a more run friendly scheme, one that our OL could shine in. We all had our frustrations with some of KK's play calliing. Sure I was a Maye guy first but that doesn't mean I don't see Jayden as a franchise QB. I don't think Kliff had the team or Jaydens best interests at heart when he was refusing to change up his scheme and work with the situations in front of them mainly caused by injuries (and some previously noted personnel misses and/or disregard)

Thing is he is facing much bigger and faster players than he was facing in college. That is the main reason I pounded the table against him with the frame he carries. I hope and pray this year was a fluke. But I doubt it was. Lets not forget he missed time in that outstanding rookie year as well.
