One other side benefit to choosing Quinn is that as Dallas' DC, he probably studied Howell and the offense carefully. What that means is he probably has as good a take as any outsider can on whether Howell can be the guy and how much of his struggles were due to line play, play calling, or receiver gaffes/droppsies versus his own shortcomings. Is he the amazing find we thought in games 1-8 or the damaged goods/limited QB we saw in games 9-16?

Read this earlier this morning ... and right now listening to the author being interviewed by Sheehan. I'll post a link to the Sheehan audio when it's uploaded. Meanwhile, I recommend the read.

I'm neither excited, nor upset about this hire. We missed on some potential young coordinators who could be the future of a franchise. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, lots of those guy fail, fail hard. I once was shouting for Jay Gruden, we got him, then we found out, eh, not so good as a HC. As was mentioned on the pod, this team isn't ready to contend, this is a very sizeable rebuild and with age and experience also comes patience to hopefully turn it around.

So when is the damn introductory press conference? Are they putting Quinn on a Greyhound this time?
Disco asked Kiem directly on Twitter. John's answer was that the intro presser was likely to be Monday.

My basic questions to Dan in his interview would have been..

What have you learned about your previous experience that would change anything about how you head coach?

Can you let us help you have the best defense in the league without overwhelming your head coaching responsibilities? IOW, can you delegate in a more efficient way?

I believe he was asked those questions and answered them in an encouraging way.

It’s a good article and my response is not meant to in any way be ‘anti-Dan Quinn’.

First of all, crediting Quinn for all the great guys Shanahan brought with him to Atlanta because ‘he was smart enough to let Kyle pick his own guys’ is pretty lame.

And one reason I mention that is, when Kyle left after the 2016 season, Quinn had Matt Lafleur, Mike McDaniel, and Raheem Morris still there and yet went outside the org with Steve Sarkisian. He wasn’t the worst OC by any stretch but one has to wonder why he didn’t promote one of those 3 (because you know Kyle recommended one of them on the way out).

Lafleur went to LA as their OC, Mcdaniel went to San Fran to be the run game coordinator, and Raheem stayed in his role with Atlanta.

Maybe that’s not as big a deal as I’m making it, but the resultant offensive drop off is the primary reason Quinn lost his job and he has admitted he blew it on that side of the ball.

I’m fine with Quinn, but they’d better not let him independently pick the OC because frankly I’m not sure he knows much about that side of the ball and has already demonstrated he doesn’t recognize talent even when it’s on his own coaching staff.

Leverro reached an entirely new Loverro-level in the first 30 minutes of today’s The Kevin Sheehan Show podcast.

I mean…my gawd. Dude needs either more fiber in his diet or a powerful laxative. Maybe even both.

IMO, whenever Thom an incredibly pig headed take - he totally doubles down on it and refuses to let it go.

His take on “the committee” is just embarrassing AND he lost his sh!t defending his take that the Commanders not firing Ron during the season put them at a huge disadvantage for hiring a HC.

I had to laugh when made a big deal about a purported "record producer” introducing himself at karaoke night and suggesting that he might want to include “Thommy Purify’s” singing on a future album that he’s putting together. How much do you want to bet that this producer will require an upfront payment from Thom to include his singing?

Don’t worry, Quinn won’t be going to the bathroom by himself with this group.

These guys are like a group of otters - all in the water and then all out 😫

Really insightful read and Sheehan’s interview was good.

I am watching this too-many-cooks narrative entrench itself, but have yet to see the actual evidence. Is there any, and if so, can someone point me to data-points that have fed the narrative?

Specifically when it comes to the HC hiring process:

- who beyond Harris and Peters can we confirm were actually in on any interviews?
- who beyond the two of them had any known, tangible role in the determination to make an offer to a guy or not?
- do we know whether Peters did or did not make the final call on any candidates?

Beyond that, I'm also curious about how different the approach Harris/Peters might have taken in the process might be from other teams in the league that aren't owned by a single person.

Just ask Loverro, he will straighten you out. 🤪

And to be clear, I am genuinely interested in seeing whatever facts are the foundation of the narrative. I just haven't seen them.

Well, there won't be 100% facts when things are opaque and there are no specific leaks to tell the exact story. So, you go by various intel pointers:
1) The moves weren't very fast by WAS. That's not a bad thing, and it could be a sign of a measured approach just by 2 people. It's not taken in isolation though, and it's important to note because it's not really conjecture as an observation.
1b) I think there is a lot to suggest that Macdonald was desired by WAS. I tend to believe that SEA just went BIG, and FAST. I don't know if WAS could do that under the circumstances; what circumstances, though? We don't know the exact details, but again, the whole process has been, at best "deliberate." At worst, "slow." The truth is probably between. I don't think it was THAT slow. I also don't think it was all being deliberate. It was slowed down at leas somewhat by inefficiencies, and there are fairly obvious hints at what those could be.
- lots of articles backing this up, before SEA moves, and certainly after. Before: https://commanderswire.usatoday.com...ald-the-defensive-sean-mcvay-coaching-search/
- After, you have that quote by Macdonald that I still point to, where he thanks Jody for empowering John to do this. It's a weird choice of words. I think if WAS was willing to match SEA, Mac would be with WAS right now. Reading the tea leaves, that's my guess. I don't think they were able to move that way, maybe because of lack of consensus or maybe they didn't want to go that high (report is that he is getting the highest salary ever for a first-time coach, SEA went *big*). However, if someone says "WAS did not want Mac at all" - that I don't know who will agree with. There is again too much to suggest that isn't the case. Again, another hint at some disagreement.

2) There are now numerous reports of a lack of consensus on coaches during the selection process. This has now been reported by multiple people; I definitely read it from Keim and also read it from another place that I can't find (it was a sidenote / tidbit in a sea of other comments, but I pick up on those because sometimes that's where you get these nuggets). This is coming out in the way that an opaque process does get little things revealed.

3) One thing I don't fully understand from people who seem to question this idea of too many cooks or think that it's very possible that there were mainly 2 people deciding on HC; what did Harris hire Myers and Spielman for? They were hired (particularly Myers) to help set the organizational culture in the right direction, to establish a "winning culture" - Harris respects (Rightly) Myers' ability to pick out people who have that kind of ability. It's pretty clear that if Harris had Myers pegged for that job, it wouldn't just end at GM, right? It would include the other person who would be at the forefront of a winning culture in the NFL, right? It's clear to me that Myers and Spielman were involved in the HC search. To what extent, I don't know, but this HAS been reported now by a couple of reporters. It may be somewhat speculation, but it's founded in sound logic here. I would say it's unsound to think otherwise, because again "setting the winning culture" would definitely involve HC unless Harris is an idiot.
3b) If Peters was the main decider, or it was fundamentally Peters and Harris, I think the decisions would have rolled faster. The reports I have read strongly suggest otherwise, and the clear observables (as above) do back that up pretty well. It's not 100% clarity here, no way, but right now it has that too-many-cooks feeling. If it was truly 1 or 2 people really calling shots simply, I think decisions would have been made faster and there would be less talk about a lack of consensus on the coaches that interviewed (Keim report).

I refuse to vote until I see who he chooses to surround himself with. My initial reaction is a C+ but that can ‘potentially‘ move up or down depending on the additions.

Peters and Quinn will be scrambling as we are last to the post in putting a staff together.

That means guys coming in with promotions to get them away from their current teams.

Or reaching out to guys in college that used to be in the NFL as coaches or players.

In that regard the ‘process’ didn’t do Quinn a lot of favors getting off the ground.

I know its been a few years....like 10 years, since I have been on here. Good to see that there is no detail that we haven't scrutinized.

I think Quinn is a great hire mostly for reasons we won't be privy to as none of us (I assume) will be in the building when he is doing his daily job. The structure of the job is the key thing to me. Seperate the powers and focus the responsibilities in the organization and we'll be 3 steps ahead of where we have been. Then its execute your damn job. Results matter. Accountability is crucial, but the first step is to set the enviroment so each person can succeed.

I am not worried about who he brings in on his staff. I am concerned that the individual fits the puzzle correctly. Unless I have a chance to talk to them personally, I can only hope. So again, results matter.

This is going to fun to watch.

Yeah...Jayman is my brother.

It has been awhile but after 30 years of coaching....I am taking a year off. Realizing I have to scratch the itch though. Why not now that Snyder is gone.
