Confirmed Signings

why though? he didnt really fit the scheme. doughty neither. makes me wonder if landry is hurt worse. but rocky is a noggin shaker.
I imagine that both these signings have a lot to do with the fact that Landry's hurt and that we're light in the LB area and that there really aren't guys out there all that enticing.....and, most critically, that with the compressed time frame it's beneficial to get guys in that already know the system and can step right in and play.

Now, will they survive the cuts? Time will tell......both are "serviceable".....although long term they are clearly not the answers.

I think you're exactly right - Doughty is here because he knows the system, and Landry's achilles is worse than advertised. I am preparing myself for #30 to miss significant time this season. Sigh.

Would it be surprising at some point to hear that LL's career is in jeopardy - or over?

Not trying to be a negative type about LL, but if it continues, these questions will pop up. The smoke and fire thing.

Surprising to me that Andre Carter hasn't been signed anywhere. Lots of teams running a 4-3, and he had 11 sacks just two seasons ago in that scheme.

Tatupu must have had nothing left for the Redskins to go back to Plan C.

I get that Allen and Shanahan don't look at inside linebacker in the 3-4 as being a premium position that is worth big bucks so a name signing here was unlikely.

You're thinking of the 'Dream Team' when you say this. Marinelli is still the Bears D Coordinator. Castillo took over as the Eagles.

Right, my mistake. Everything else still holds true though. They overachieved big time last year, with a little help from the refs.

Rocky? He re-signed before Tatupu visited. Lofa is in Ashburn today.

I thought the visit was for Wed with Tatupu and Hayden.

How much did Rocky get for one year?

One hopes this is a sign Riley is coming along and Rocky is a one year bridge.

He just doesn't have size to play the 3-4.

But unlike Carlos he said the right things and said he wanted to come back. He is a hard worker and I am sure that went into Shanahan's thinking.

I think that similar to Carlos, Rocky just didn't get the offers that he anticipated, and decided to return to DC in a system he knows to try to build up his stock. Who knows?

Interesting viewpoint I heard last night from Lance Zierlein:
"I spoke with an agent who said letting 4 yr players have free agency along with yr 5s was a huge mistake by players side in negotiations. The agent said the flooding of the market has created a nightmare scenario for most FAs and has created a total buyer's market."

Good news for the Skins. Hopefully that swing tackle will be available at reasonable cost.

#Redskins are signing OC/G Donovan Raiola per a source. (@Russellmania980)

Not what I was hoping for. This guy came into the NFL in 2006 and has barely played. When I saw Raiola I thought it might be his brother.

Washington still needs a swing tackle and a guard who can replace Artis Hicks who continues to disappoint.

Okay, I keep seeing this term "Swing Tackle," but have never heard it before. What is a swing tackle? A Brandon Manualsdkijf type TE who is just big and used for blocking? A hybrid of sorts?

A guy who can play either RT or LT and be on the game day roster as a back to the two starters. Heyer was that guy last year.

Ah, thanks Neo. I've always assumed a backup OT had to play both positions. Didn't know they had a name for that.

All the Redskins are now practicing together for the first time.

49ers sign Braylon Edwards. He'd have signed a week ago but he kept dropping the pen when it was thrown to him.

Via Twitter:
Carlos Rogers welcomed new teammate Braylon Edwards to the 49ers a short time ago. Offering a high-five to one another, they both missed.

6'2 and 293. Seems small even for the ZBS.

Hard to figure the interest in a guy that has almost no available film in 5 years in the NFL.
