Commanders not meeting expectations

Ron Rivera was a horrific first round talent evaluator.

Rivera was horrible in all rounds. 4 years of drafts and they got rid of better talent like Trent Williams, Sheriff, and almost all of the good players on the team are pre-Rivera.

You know he's bad when the fanbase would have drafted better in any of his drafts. Forbes over Gonzalez almost had to be Rivera trolling the fanbase. How the hell was that even possible? Dude weighs about what a high school CB weighs.

I keep envisioning them somehow finding a legit CB2. Then we'd have Lattimore, Player X and Sainristill in the slot who has proven he can step outside should there be an injury. I would not mind seeing competition for Quan Martin coming from the draft or a young FA who is ready to blow up. Martin is fine, certainly not a liability, but it would be nice to have an impact playmaker back there.
Because Sainristil can play both spots, I think re-signing Igbinoghene would be a smart move. We’ll have a reasonable trio of starting corners, plus our 2 (hopefully) developing UDFAs currently on the PS. And that allows us to 1) move on from Davis, who held the role of baseline capable vet, and 2) target corner in the draft, but not panic if it doesn’t work out. And if we don’t land a corner in the draft, we could always sign a FA that is up and coming, sign a cheaper/older vet as insurance/competition, and/or hit UDFA again. Overall though, yeah, winding up with a good #2 would be pretty massive for the Defense.

And of course, if we do find a viable starter, we can have Sainristil playing inside, while also being the backup at outside corner (with Iggy coming in to play in the slot).

I like Martin, but yeah, he hasn’t really flashed much. Obviously there’s a symbiotic relationship between FS and the corners/pass rush, so I hesitate to criticize him much, but it seems like he’s rarely in a position to challenge deep balls. There’s a part of me that wants to see Owens challenge for the starting role, though that’s asking a lot from an UDFA. Since we’re set to lose Forrest, I could definitely see S in play during the draft, even if it’s a fair bit down on the priority list (not that I think Peters is beholden to need-based drafting).

I like your Cornerback plan

you will never hear me defend Rivera and his drafting...

but he had nothing to do with Williams leaving, and Scherff flat out got overpaid. I'm glad we didnt sign him to what he ultimately got.

I don’t agree 100% with the idea the team doctors did anything wrong when it comes to Williams. I never have agreed with that idea. They are sports medicine guys, not the players personal physicians. We are all responsible for our bodies. But it’s pointless talking about at this point.
