Coaching staff thread

I think this would be the kind of home run move at OC we need.

"Washington needs to go through their process" so this may take some time.

Not the f****** process again :behindsofa:

Yeah - I had the same reaction :puke:

Just hire the man!

Wait a minute, Rick Spielman is on a flight across the country and can't be reached by phone due to interference so we have to delay talking with Kingsbury until tomorrow

The cost of the #1 is the key part here. Does someone offer you enough to pull the trigger. Also, where does Harrison Jr rate on their board. If the WR is a generational player, then what is the cost not to get him if you ID that as a major key to upgrade. IF QB isn't your need and this WR is as good as they claim....he would be worth the pick. What a crazy scenario to be apart of......

The problem I have with that is wide receiver, while more important a position than 30 years ago because of the rules changes, is still a dependent position.

Tyreek Hill is a great receiver. He won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs. But without Patrick Mahomes throwing him the ball how many playoff games has Miami won?

Other great receivers around the NFL CeeDee Lamb and Stefon Diggs haven't elevated their teams in the postseason either.

If you have a chance to take a quarterback OR trade down and still get the quarterback you are targeting a few picks later then I think you do that.

Moving up?

Again, what's the opportunity cost? If you take a WR at #1 or #2 but you give up a number of high picks, you better make sure your QB and OL are solid.

Here in Washington we really don't know how good Terry McLaurin is because he has never played with an established quarterback or an offensive line worth a damn.

If he were playing with Mahomes he would have two rings already.

Thats what makes this a crazy scenario.....they have 2 Top 10 picks. The value you put on the players you covet is the key. The #1 is the extra pick you got so thats your chance to get someone who you wouldn't have a shot at normally. Whatever value you put on your board then IDs what a team will have to pay to take that from you. IF someone offers you more than what you think you will benefit from picking your chosen player, then all the better.

We get a #2 for Sweat and its such a good offer, we take it. Not our best move, but the value offered was better than our projected benefit.

Absolutely crazy situation. Great for them, but like everything at this level, either a big hit or a big miss. Thats why someone gets paid the big bucks.

I would trade down from #1 if I wanted a WR as there are several projected in Round 1 that could help the Bears and all those extra picks could go towards building out the balance of the roster.

But if I were the Bears' GM I would most likely be looking for a trade partner for Justin Fields and select a quarterback at #1.

Justin Fields to me is still a raw player and one who still depends too much on his legs to give him a league competitive top 5 salary.

His play has been up and down and when it was down earlier this year it was truly awful.

Marvin Harrison Jr. would make me very nervous in the top 5. I know he's very talented - but would he be hyped as a 'generational player' if his Dad weren't who he is - I have to wonder? And to take a WR that high, he'd better be, well, the next Marvin Harrison :)

If you aren't absolutely sure you have a difference-making QB (and there's no way Chicago is sure Justin Fields is that guy), you absolutely have to take a big swing with a top 3 pick. Have to.

If you can get the #8 pick for Justin Fields I think you do it in a second.

The risk/reward on this is massive for the Bears.

Yep, due to the stupidity of Carolina the Bears if they do things right can come away with a haul of picks and players that rival what Jimmy Johnson was able to wheel and deal for in the early 1990's in Dallas.

Kliff Kingsbury.

Current job: senior offensive analyst USC Trojans
U wonder if we have dangled Caleb Williams draft possibilities at Kliff.

Kingsbury was expected to interview for Chicago’s OC position. Then they hired Shane Waldron.
