Coaching staff thread

I was thinking more from the standpoint of the run/pass mix, SO. No DC wants to see that mix, especially later in games when their defense is starting to wear down.

Personnel was/is certainly an issue but if I'm Quinn, I have serious reservations about EB's philosophy and his inability to adjust when Howell started to struggle.
One just might think that a poor offensive line could be more successful with the run than the pass. Especially the line Washington trotted out last season. 🤷🏻‍♂️

On the OC search ... has the team or any insider even hinted at a "list" of actual candidates? I keep waiting for the OC equivalent of the HC list we all kept reading about--did I miss it?

And just some random thoughts we might want the team to consider:

- someone from the Shanahan offensive tree so Quinn's defense can go against it every day and maybe get more insight into stopping it.
- someone that might fit the succession tree--(see Mayo, J., NE) meaning, with an at least implied line to a legit HC candidacy when Quinn is done.

I had another one but it just flew my fucking brain.

No. Rumors about Kelly and Kubiak are all I’ve heard.

Yeah, that tracks. So one day after the big HC hire we're back in waiting mode for ANY kind of talk out of Ashburn.

Like, where in the world is the mighty Quinn? When will he speak? And what about Whitt--has he blocked Jerrah's number on his cell? Is he going to change his mind and decide to stay home with Daddy like Johnson did?

I want to know things. Damn these tight lips again.

If I had to bet money, between Quinn's ties to Kyle Shanahan and Peter's ties to San Fran, I would be somewhat shocked if the OC isn't from the SF coaching staff.

Brian Giese or Joe Graves might be names to watch. Another dark horse might be Leonard Hankerson. Who seems to be well thought of as a coach.

The Chip Kelly stuff is coming from Chip Kelly.

I cant imagine the question wasn't asked of Quinn: "Who is your OC and does he know and is he going to take the job?" And if the answer was "Chip Kelly" I can't imagine Peters et al. would have liked that answer.

I think it's somebody from the 49ers staff. I'd bet on that.

Again - the hiring of Quinn isn’t official. Team hasn’t said a peep about it.

Perhaps this has all been smoke to cover the Super Bowl weekend announcement of the real hiring....

The only reason we heard about HC interviews was that current employer (team) needed to approve. (Interview request). Is that different for coordinator positions?

He's working, the East / West Shrine Bowl was last night in Texas... I imagine he opted to stay down there and go to the game.

Keim speculated that his presser will likely be Monday.

FOR OC - there are still guys out there like Frank Smith (Miami), Mike Lafleur (Rams). 2 guys who could leave to call plays and have full control of offense. And Brian Griese in SF too.

I haven't heard much discussion on preferred Coordinators. Joe Whitt Jr. is rumored to be coming as our DC, but we don't know if that is just rumor. Seems like one possible barrier to that might be if Dallas promotes him to DC in order to keep him from getting poached. I think Jerry likes 'names' so I don't consider that likely but you never know?

Who are you guys liking as potential OCs? We've all heard the Chip Kelly rumors. Sounds like Klint Kubiak is likely getting signed by the Saints. I think Brian Griese could be a real possibility, although people don't seem to realize he's only been a QBs coach for TWO seasons. I know he's a former pro QB but that is a gigantic leap. Leonard Hankerson has been coaching for 9 seasons and a lot of folks would balk at that.

I'll keep saying it - the OC choice may be the most crucial staff decision we make this offseason.

Despite the risk of losing one soon, I hope we grab an up and comer for OC with high potential. We went the vet HC route so we need some new, fresh voices to fill out the ranks. One of Rivera's biggest mistakes was uniting the old gang that wasn't working in Carolina. So, I hope they scour the league. If Quinn's advantage is that he knows a lot of people and they all like him he should be able to put together an impressive squad. He did it once.

Derek Carr is fool’s gold.

Kubiak should be holding out for a better opportunity.

Apparently Kingsbury just pulled his name out of contention for the OC job in Vegas.

then this:

and now schefter and others doubling down

Important thing to note here, Kingsbury was Caleb Williams' QB coach at USC in 2023

Interesting video/thoughts about Kingsbury from a day or so ago when it looked like he was off to Vegas...

Interesting.....sadly, the move only promotes the idea that this is a possiblity by the Bears and I have a tough time thinking that information would of made its way out of their camp. From our standpoint, we don't have to hide our intentions, we just have to make sure teams know we 'can' be bought but it will cost ya. Always make sure all of our options on the table. Mind you, I don't think anyone would look at the Bears drafting Harrison Jr as a complete blown move so.....this is going to be a fun draft for sure.

Isn't the more likely move the Bears trade out of #1 if they aren't sold on Caleb Williams? I mean, they'd have to be insane not to...
