Burner's Burning Questions: Offseason Edition, Free Agency 2014

Thurmond signed for one year in NY. Any word on the size of the deal?

Can't imagine the deal being enough for Thurmond to not meet the Redskins.

Curious why we weren't interested.

So, I have been busy at work all weekend so I just found out we cut Montgomery and lost JD Walton to the Giants. Umm...I thought JD Walton was signed, did we cut him too?

And please! Please please please!!!!!! tell me Lichtensteiger is not going to be our Center!

Tell me my wish for Alex Mack to be signed is a done deal!

You can forget Alex Mack. They tagged him. And not any normal tag, but the "you give us two firsts tag" or something similar. I believe it's also $10.5 million.

Montgomery may be going to the Broncos. What a stroke of luck for him.

I can't believe Chester is still here.

It was a transition tag. They just get the right to match any deal he agrees to. He can leave with them getting nothing if they choose not to match.

Colts are doing a nice job supporting their young QB. They went from dregs to playoffs pretty dang fast.

Maybe it was Thurmond that wasn't interested.

You are wrong. No "2 firsts tag".

And so what about the 10 million...a great center is worth it, especially since we don't have a center on our roster right now!

I really can't believe they cut Montgomery and not Chester, and let JD Walton go to the Giants. Really struggling to get an idea of what is going on with the OL... they must be thinking they can address center and some of these positions in the draft, I suppose.

yea. I don't know if the guy was any good. but it is weird that they sign him in Dec and then let him walk.

the overwhelming opinion from the beat reporters, according to people they've talked to, is litchensteiger will move to center (his 'natural' position.)

so they might be happy with that, plus adding in louvue or whatever his name is? i know fans hate polumbus, but every football person i've heard analyze his game says he does exactly what he's supposed to - nothing great, but he does his job.

i went into the offseason convinced (not because this is my opinion, but the opinion of those i trust) that we were 1 or two moves away from having a pretty solid o line - specifically a quality center. maybe they think moving kory to c and louvue are the moves they need to make to have an above average line this year.

hard to know without seeing what kind of offense they'll run.

Gruden runs more of a power scheme I thought, but it is hard to believe Lich could be effective at 280.

that's what i thought too, but aren't centers normally the smaller guy on the line?

Yeah, I don't know. They are definitely usually shorter, but you still want some beef. #Thatswhatshesaid

Aside from Vinny Cerrato, and maybe Cleveland, you aren't going to find too many people in the country who would ever spend $10 million on a center. That's insane.

And that's even more insane to believe that a team with so many holes would ever consider it. A top LT? Yes. A center? No way in hell. A center isn't taking us to the SB next year.

An offensive line is only as good as its weakest link. You don't need one great guy, and several holes. Everyone just needs to be decent.

Here's a list of the top paid centers in the league, for reference.

» Over the Cap- Top NFL Contracts: Center

As you can see, the fourth highest paid center in the league is $6.45 million.
