Burner's Burning Questions: Offseason Edition, Free Agency 2014

RT anyone? Could we possibly fill almost all of these holes in only one year?

Washington hopes to sign Donald Penn | ProFootballTalk

Our FO is working their asses off.

cmon now! I'm down with your enthusiasm vis Gruden. but no holes are filled until we see it actually happen on the playing field.

vis your other post...can't remember where I heard it or the player's name...but some safety at the senior bowl remarked to a Redskin beat reporter that basically the entire Skins scouting and coaching staff has interviewed him. so we may be drafting our third safety in two years in the second round perhaps.

Yes, but to be fair Thomas got hurt before he could show us anything and Rambo was a late round pick that was green as grass and should never have been starting.

yeah but if you can get a better player in this draft, i'm sorry but i'm not holding my breath for Rambo/Thomas. Do i want them to work out and use the draft to address other positions? Absolutely, but if we can draft a guy who fits better and can come in here day 1, we cant let that slip away because we drafted 2 last yer. It sucks but its gotta happen... Not to mention, Meriweather most likely isnt coming back, so even with Rambo/Thomas, they're the ONLY 2 guys on the roster (as of right now). We re-sign Doughty, we still need at least 1 more Safety as depth, why not bring in a young guy to compete?

We haven't even begun to draft yet.

We can't totally rely on a rookie draft, for the 2 most important needs on our team.
Rookies rarely produce in their first season, and many draft picks never do contribute, as we've seen by experience.
ESPECIALLY considering there's no 1st rounder this year.
We HAVE to grab a FA at our 2 greatest needs, as security, in case the rookies don't pan out

Seriously, these 2 key positions have been an embarrassing, glaring hole ever since 2007.
All because we "p-footed" around with it.
Do we really want to p-foot with it any longer ?
Time to nail down the positions, and leave no doubt whatsoever

Anthony Spencer has left without signing a contract and is on his way to St. Louis for a visit today.

And RT prospect Penn comes to Washington today.

We can still create cap room by extending Trent Williams, a decision the club is going to make next season anyway as his cap hit is going to go to something like $14M.

Might as well do it now.

The Redskins are working on setting up a visit with free agent WR Kenny Britt, according to @AlbertBreer.

Redskins are seriously thinking about bringing Brandon Meriweather back.

Anthony Spencer left town without a contract. Looking less likely that he will sign.

Probably for the best with Spencer. Just too many "what ifs" when it comes to his health.

Henry Melton is still out there, coming off an ACL that he tore early last season. I wouldn't mind kicking the tires on him because when he's healthy...he's a good pass rusher.

Heard Clark is official now.

trying to find verification

Might be BS, Not finding anything credible

Close, but no cigar - yet.

Ryan Clark has just signed a one year deal with Verizon. #HTTR

Any moment now the Bruce is going to announce Wilfork is the new NT. That's just me wishing and completely NOT true, unless you all wish with me to will it.

Again, if we would negotiate with Trent on an extension we could get $2 or $3M in cap relief this year.

And push cap hell back a few years? That's the Snyderatto method of doing business. Things aren't done that way anymore.

We are going to extend Trent next year in any event. He is due a top 5 rate given his age and talent level.

Extending one prime player is not putting us in cap hell.

Cerrato got in trouble because the team was overpaying what turned out in most cases to be non-elite talent and doing so several times concurrently.

I am not suggesting the same thing.

BTW, the Redskins redid Cofield last year under similar circumstances.

They couldn't sign Spence
cuz they only offered him fifty cents.
So negotiations got tense
So Anthony said, I aint sittin on the fence.
So, it's time to find a deal that make sense.
And that's the story, Ladies and Gents

In haiku...

Spencer decides no
Not enough money to grab
Skins better without
