Jason Hatcher on conference call with #Redskins beat guys. Says he thinks big year was because of scheme change and more 1-on-1 matchups. Hatcher said he's still surprised that he's here with #Redskins. He says he'll be used as a pass-rusher in 1-on-1 matchups. Hatcher says he feels like although 31, being a backup for five years kept him fresh. Hatcher says he's a power guy, but he's got it all. Hatcher said the chance to remain in the #Redskins-Cowboys rivalry was main reason he picked WASH over Seattle. Hatcher says he'll be able to do a lot of different things in #Redskins defense. Says "they'll let me come in and be me" Hatcher says last year his game was getting upfield and not sitting back and reading blocks.Will be interesting to see how #Redskins use him. Hatcher says playing against #Redskins last year and previous years, he could tell the players had the fight despite 3-13, he aims to lead. Hatcher said DeAngelo Hall helped recruit him prior to signing. Said RGIII texted him and said he's happy he won't be vs. him anymore. Hatcher expects to move around a lot, Will play some nose, some right end, some left end. Hatcher said again #Redskins "blew the doors off me," and added, "they got right in my price range...but it wasn't all about the money."

Until I see him do it in an 3-4...yeah. Pretty much.

Porter and Hatcher are solid pickups. Like I said I'd like to see the breakdown of Hatcher's deal, but straight up he's a good player.

Personally, I think it would be really cool if we got ourselves a decent safety and/or right tackle, but that's really about it. There's just too much to fix on our defense to address it all with free agency so I'm ok not overspending to build a team that way. Look to the draft. That's when we'll (some day) know if things are going to really turn around or not.

Hatcher was a good player one year and in a 4-3 scheme, Henry. He was average, at best, before that. Oh, and that year was a contract year. Hope he proves me wrong but right now I'm not convinced.

Porter I like but I like it because seems to have nose for the ball and turnovers. He isn't a world better as a CB otherwise.

You keep ignoring that we ran a ton of 4-3 looks last year. Add to that Gruden has said he's going to fit the scheme to the players, I'm sure he's going to get the most out of hatcher.

I'm not sure if we can really call our D a 3-4 scheme though, It seems to be a very healthy mix IMHO.

Sorry guys...what I saw was a whole lot of Rak and Kerrigan standing up at either end of the line and 3 guys with their hand in the dirt between them, with the center guy over the Center. That sure sounds a lot like a 3-4 to me. While I am sure it happened some, I can't remember, off the top of my head, a single snap where we had 4 honest-to-god down linemen.

Just because you rush 4 guys doesn't mean you are playing a 4 man front.

Add to that the fact that Gruden said in his very first presser that he wanted to stay with the 3-4 and I am hard pressed to think much else till I see it on the field.

Since Gruden believes you adapt your system to the players, perhaps he wants Haslett to do the same, i.e., mix and match to players' strengths. It would allow for a LOT of different looks.

How many teams are signing 35 year old guys right now, early in free agency?

Most of these guys get signed after the draft on vet minimum deals.

Besides, who else wants to date Clark?

As with Bailey I don't see too many suitors lining up.

Redskins ran over 60 percent of their defensive snaps last year in the nickel with 4 down linemen.

I think your concerns are spot on and what a lot of people have been saying, including the Cowboys fans justifying why they're happy they didn't pay him that much to keep him. I'm only posting that in case it helps ease your mind on it

We'll see. Hopefully this front office knows what they're doing.

I think that's a reasonable position to take Bob, but I also think it's tough to predict that he'll not be an impact player when he's playing alongside some different talent for different coaches. I still think he is going to free up some pressure on Orakpo and Kerrigan even if he doesn't rack up 10+ sacks himself.
