For his career : 7 Receptions, and 2 TD's.
That's almost a TD every 3rd reception.
Sprinkle knows how to put the ball in the paint !

Greetings from BBQ to everyone in BGO land and guests from social media – we hope you become a member here.

The 2019 NFL draft is in the history books and the Redskins added ten new players to the roster. Today, we examine these draftees and assign a grade to the team for each player. Grading any draft just as it has ended is obviously premature as it takes a few years to know the full impacts. However, we do this every year and 2019 is no exception.

BBQ also takes a look at the UDFAs and will assign a group grade to the team. Will any of them make the team? How many could end up on the practice squad? Will all of the draftees make the roster of fifty-three? Will any of the draftees fail to make the team's final roster?

- Days until the 2019 Regular Season Opener: 128

Without any further delays, let's get right to the evaluations and grades.


Round One Selection: Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio St.
Giving a grade to a first round quarterback is a tricky proposition and preparing an evaluation is very difficult. Haskins seems to be every part of a franchise quarterback. He spends time studying. He can read defenses quickly. He has a strong arm. He goes through his progressions in the pocket before scrambling downfield. Will it translate to the next level? We'll see. Haskins was slated to go in the top ten, possibly the top five. Excellent value (for now) at fifteen.
BBQ Grade: A


Round One Selection: Montez Sweat, Edge/OLB, Mississippi St.
The Redskins traded their second round picks in 2019 and 2020 to select Sweat. One medical misdiagnosis and one bold trade landed the Redskins an elite pass rusher. Minus the misdiagnosis, Sweat was certain to be a top ten pick. The Redskins have lacked a powerful, elite edge rusher ever since they switched to the 3-4 defense and it looks as if that has finally changed. Sweat has elite wide receiver speed and the power of a strong defensive lineman.
BBQ Grade: A


Round Two: No Pick
After trading for Sweat, the Redskins did not have a selection in the second round.


Round Three Selection: Terry McLaurin, WR, Ohio St.
We began to mock McLaurin late in the BBQ mocking process when it became apparent that the Redskins were interested in his services. He is highly underrated and could start from day one. This Buckeye has 4.3 speed, solid route running skills, excellent receiving skills, and a strong rapport with Dwayne Haskins. We would love to give the highest marks to this selection, but McLaurin would've been there one round later.
BBQ Grade: B+


Round Three (Comp Pick): No Pick
The Redskins traded their third round compensatory pick to the Buffalo Bills and received both of their fourth round selections.


Round Four Selection: Bryce Love, RB, Stanford
Bryce Love would've been a top twenty pick in the draft if he did not have the torn ACL late in the 2018 season for Stanford. In 2017 he should've won the Heisman Trophy, but the choice went to another player. No one questions his exceptional talent and it sounds like he will be ready for training camp. BBQ thinks he would've been there with the first pick in the fifth round.

Round Four Selection: Wes Martin, OG, Indiana
When BBQ was watching film and reading scouting reports on guards this winter, we noticed that Martin was listed as a simple UDFA and nothing more. We chose not to spend any other time on his profile – that was a mistake. We also had a negative reaction to this draft pick on social media – that was a mistake as well. Martin could be the starter on day one and could be a fixture at left guard for the next decade or more. He's strong. He is an excellent blocker. Most teams had a middle round grade on him and it looks like BBQ is eating crow (and loving it).

Round Five Selection: Ross Pierschbacher, C/OG, Alabama
This selection is a head scratcher after taking a solid guard with the previous pick. He graded out as below average as a center and somewhat better as a guard. He spent his final year at center and the other three years at guard. Sure, he started all four years for a team that won two national championships and had two national runner-up finishes. Acquiring quality depth on the line is a good strategy, but Pierschbacher would've been there in the seventh round.

Round Five (Comp Pick) Selection: Cole Holcomb, ILB, North Carolina
The Redskins needed to add ILB depth in the draft and Holcomb not only meets that goal, but he could also be a starter at some point in the season. He has 4.4 speed and will be a superb gunner/ace on special teams. He should've been chosen in the previous round, but the Redskins found him late in the fifth – a pretty good steal and an excellent value pick. Look for Holcomb to be a mainstay on the roster for many years to come and have a terrific career.

Round Six (Comp Pick) Selection: Kelvin Harmon, WR, North Carolina St.
The undisputed steal of the entire draft. No one expected this to happen and it is likely a reaction to the Laquon Treadwell situation. Treadwell was a first round pick in 2016 and has similar measurables to Harmon. However, he has produced very little in the NFL. The slide that Harmon experienced is likely due to what Treadwell has done (or hasn't done) in the league. Treadwell also has character issues and Harmon doesn't. Harmon should have a good career and very likely avoids the pitfalls of Treadwell.

Round Seven Selection: Jimmy Moreland, DB, James Madison
Selections in the seventh round tend to be players that are likely going to the practice squad in September, but Moreland could be a different story. He faces a crowded field at cornerback, but he could make the team as a special teams ace. Blessed with blazing speed, Moreland has an uncanny knack for blocking field goals and extra point attempts. He is also an interception machine who can produce a fair amount of pick sixes. Not playing against quality Power Five conference teams hurt his chances and his stature is less than ideal, but Moreland has a swagger and attitude that could help him immensely.
Grade: B


Round Seven (Comp Pick) Selection: Jordan Brailford, Edge/OLB, Oklahoma St.
Late seventh rounders tend to be projects and likely head to the practice squad or fail to be on the team in any capacity in the fall. He was productive in college, but that was against weaker non-conference opponents and against conference laughingstock Kansas. Scouting reports on him were all over the place – anywhere from a fourth round choice to the UDFA ranks. If he can make the practice squad, Brailford would learn the game against quality players in practice and try to forge a career as a good backup and special teams player. There were several decent choices late in the draft and that makes this pick a curious choice.

JoJo McIntosh, DB, Washington
Chidi Okeke, OT, Tennessee St.
Ryan Bee, DT, Marshall
Steven Sims, WR, Kansas
Juwann Bushell-Beatty, OT, Michigan
B.J. Blunt, ILB/SS/Hybrid, McNeese St.
T.J. Rahming, WR, Duke
Each of these players are candidates for the practice squad and some will not make it that far. Candidates for the final roster in this group are McIntosh and Rahming – they should've been drafted on Saturday by an organization. Keep an eye on both offensive tackles.

BBQ Overall Redskins 2019 Draft Grade
Assigning a grade to a team just days after a draft is very challenging. That grade could change drastically in a few years or be close to the original mark. For now, this was a very good draft for the Redskins and it could rival the 1981 draft or surpass it. We simply won't know for a few years. There were a couple of choices that seemed bewildering, but that criticism could be wrong in time. BBQ thinks this was a superb draft and now it is time for the team to capitalize on its success.

Whatever it takes since other teams are going to start taking notice, if they haven't already. "IF" it was Schaffer who ran this draft then he needs the GM title and a raise.
