BREAKING NEWS: Redskins to lose $36 Million in Cap Space

FWIW - local talking heads who have been covering Jerry for years don't think he will make too big a fuss about the cap cut the Cowboys took. They think he will consider a fight with the NFL over this small potatoes when compared with possibly not getting another Super Bowl.
 
I still think "news" of the NFL stripping us of Cap Space dollars was all that we will hear of it. I think this was done just to scare off a few top free agents.

From everything I have read, there is no way the owners can take this any further without expecting some serious inquisition from officials outside the NFL. They do not want the labor friendly Dept of Justice looking into this.

I think we've heard the end of it. I just hope their intention to keep free agents from signing with us won't work.
 
Got something to share. This is a bit tentative, but...

The Redskins are going to go as planned into FA and ignore the so called penalty. The league knows it is powerless to stop them and will simply allow contracts to stand - within the cap that they had prior to yesterday of course. The league is just hoping to keep it all quiet from here on out and is looking for the story to die down and go away. No word on what Dallas will do - probably the same thing.

Again, this is not set in stone. It looks like the league is trying to do it in a way to save face though. More to come if anything changes or something is forthcoming.

The league is hoping that the Redskins will follow the "spirit of the law" and show some adherence to the so called penalty. Not sure what that means and like the previous item, this is all very tentative.

It's just my understanding of what could be going on behind the scenes. Sounds like it is very tentative though. If I had to guess, the Redskins are giving a bit and the league is doing the same. Probably a good thing to do as we are still way below the cap for this year and next anyway.
 
It's not an issue the teams can really press too hard on. Any way you slice it, they are not going to risk Fed involvement because there is clearly collusion. I wouldn't be surprised if some want to be politician doesn't latch on to this anyway and try to make something of it.

I personally would love to see it happen, just to put that friggin bastige of a NFL commissioner and jealous cheap owners in their place. This is where the NLRB should scream about unfair labor practices which is ironic since you know how I feel about that group. :)

There is NO way -- NONE -- that something that happened TWO ****ing years ago gets penalized AFTER we trade up to get our franchise QB, the DAY BEFORE free agency, without SOMEONE in the NFL office asking "how do we stop the Redskins?"

And bite me. My language and grammar go to hell when I get angry. I'm like a verbal Incredible Hulk. Go ahead. Say something. I'll shove a run-on sentence straight up your candy ass!!! :laugh: ;)
 
so if we take this to court and win do we get 18 mill added to our cap next year ,and money back !

I want to give everyone an update as to what is going on. As you can see, I talked yesterday about how things were going on behind the scenes and PFT confirmed it at 4am this morning - some nine hours after I referenced it here. The reason I termed it as "tentative" was due to the sensitive nature of these discussions. As you can see, it was difficult to balance what I was told and keep info to a minimum - the nature of these discussions are very sensitive. I gave you a bone and not much more - hope you can understand the circumstances for doing so.

So where are things at this juncture? Well, as mentioned late afternoon/early evening yesterday, the league and the Redskins want to keep any talks/negotiations out of the scrutiny of the public for the most part. Too, the league and the Redskins are doing a bit of give and take here. The contracts that the Redskins submitted yesterday amount to less than $5 mil against the 2012 cap, but were allowed to be structured in a way that gives a decent amount of relief for 2012 and 2013. Those contracts can be restructured for the 2014 season and beyond and with no consequences - the league would normally disapprove of such contracts.

Without going any further, I think you can see that both sides are in a give and take mode. The league saves face and the Redskins receive an admittance that informally clears them of any wrong-doing. Will there be any further negotitations or changes? I honestly don't know, but if it happens and the info is shared (to whatever degree), it will be passed along to you.

The more I understand on this...the worse the league looks. I'm one dial away from calling my Congressman and and starting to up the pressure.

I have been stating for two years now that Goodell was a buffoon with an overweaning desire to control behavior. Let's hope the Skins execute as desired and dares the NFL to do somehting about it.

oh yea...every chance we get once all the pieces are in place...RUN THE SCORE UP ON THE GINTS......*sshats.

Yea Neo, me too. That's the ultimate bottom line in all this and why I'm absolutely convinced the NFL will be backing off here. They really don't want this to hit the courts and they're flirting with a federal investigation if they don't make this go away REAL fast right now.
 
So let me get this right.

We are getting punished for spending money, and not being stingy (Scots word for being careful with money) like the majority of other owners.

Yep that sounds like what should happen in a free market economy.
 
Florio just posted a new entry. He won't let it go and I'm thinking he is in his "lawyer mode". Reminds me of how the Vick dog story was only covered by PFT and after a period of time, the media and league had no other choice - they had to investigate. We know about the eventual outcome.

Because of Florio, this is could be on the way to working in our favor. It may take some time, but Florio is on the march.

What do you think? Will Florio be able to pull this off?
 
A LOT of people in the league read PFT many times a day. Given how fast some of his headlines generate official reactions from teams, I'd say it's not much of a stretch to say he could have a huge impact on this.

Yep, especially now that he has teamed up (or been bought out or whatever) with NBC.
