All things Bourbon

Much to my surprise, this afternoon at my favorite liquor store, with the widest selection of bourbon around, sitting on a shelf, was a lone bottle of Stagg Jr.

It's now residing with me. $54 after taxes.

Thanks HOF44, and Lanky. Having just seen it discussed in here today, I felt like I hit the lottery when I saw it.

First round was very, very good. Oak, spice.....nice!

BTW, I always have mine, neat. Unbelievable how smooth 134+proof can be.

Me likey. :)

Great find!!! You are now officially spoiled. You will never again taste a bourbon for under 100 bucks remotely close to that.

Do me a favor and put a little ice cube in a glass and give it a try. Not to say neat isn't great, but it's almost like having 2 different tasting bourbons when you do that. Also as I told Lanky be careful it can sneak up on you. 134 that smooth is dangerous.

This is the Four Roses I just got, the 2013 Bourbon of the year.

I am way too late to this thread!! I love bourbon and scotch. Have been a lot more into scotch for the past few years but watching Justified always makes me want to drink bourbon.

So I will be trying to get my hands on these recommended bourbons. Thanks HOF!

While I drink most scotches neat, putting an ice cube or a sprinkle of water can really open up the drink and change the profile. But while its one thing to drink 80 proof neat, I believe that something as high as 134 should be cut a bit.

I think you will be surprised. The 134 is not much hotter than most 80 proofed scotches. It really is a marvel they can make a drink that high in proof and that smooth. Adding ice just makes it taste like different drink. Which is nice.

I'm definitely going to give it a try based on your recommendation. In fact, ABC just opened so I'm going to head over now and buy a bottle.

I wish you luck. No ABC store within 50 miles of me has it in stock. I stopped checking further out. The bourbons you see us discussing in here a very difficult to find in most cases. If you ever go to the game get there early and come see me, I always have some good thing s to try.

Thanks. We'll see. Do you call stores for inventory? Or special order?

I got the stock number for Stagg Jr from the abc website and called. They don't special order regular stock. If you just ask if they have Stagg Jr they wil say yes and when you go in hand you a bottle of Red Stagg by Beam. LoL

The stock number is 21540.

Ok Specsonline is showing they have Jr available again. I put in the order because I have an account and it was no hassle. I'm not holding my breath. But I figure if I'm persistent and polite enough they might send me a case to go away. ;)

You will be happy to know that you didn't waste any more time checking other ABC stores. No store in the NoVa area has it. There are 2 bottles at the warehouse in Alexandria but they are saved for restaurants. The clerk printed out the inventory search for me.

Not as hard to find as Pappys or BTAC, but pretty close.

I'm on a mission to find this stuff now.....

Good luck, best I've been able to find is 99 a bottle with a 10% discount if you buy 6. Specs was a bust again, their inventory system is a reference, not a count. It's pretty scarce stuff.

I've got a source in NY I was able to get 3 at 70 a bottle from, my source in KY has some but wants 100 plus shipping so I declined. I was able to get 1 bottle for 75 from a friend of mine. I checked craigslist in NY,Chicago,LA, Florida,Texas, and Kentucky. Nothing under 110 plus shipping a bottle.

For the Stagg Jr?? Shit! I went back to the liquor store in Severna Park that had a couple of bottles....it was gone....they told me it was selling for $56.00 a bottle.

Why, oh why didn't I buy it when I saw it!!??

:mad2:

That's retail for it Rick. You should have known from drinking with me as long as you have that if it says double G Stagg on it and its retail you buy it. ;)

Still searching.....
I'll have to stick with my Elmer T. Lee for the time being.
