Adam Peters and his Front Office

Getting guys that would never have come here in past seasons.
Yep, there has been a real shift in talent acquisition in the front office. This really is a dream job for a lot of those guys. How often do you get to rebuild a team with a cooperative owner and well respected GM? So many guys take jobs with bad owners and work for bad GMs because it’s the job that is available. Getting to come to a situation like this, which is 180 degrees from where it used to be, is setting themselves up for future success and bigger jobs down the line.

Here is a look at Washington’s known moves in the front office since taking over in January:

  • Lance Newmark: Assistant general manager
  • Martin Mayhew: Reassigned from GM to senior personnel executive/advisor to GM
  • Brandon Sosna: Senior vice president/football operations
  • David Blackburn: Director of Player Personnel
Those are the official hirings, as noted on the team’s official website.

Stratton has also reported the following hirings on the scouting side that aren’t yet reflected on the team’s website:

  • Dustin Regan: Area scout
  • Dwaune Jones: National scout
  • Jack Quagliarello. Pro scout
Multiple members of the previous regime’s front office have departed for other scouting jobs, as Peters reshapes the front office in his vision.

Too many middling first round picks and choices in Rounds 3/4 that were or are just busts.

I f these guys did a good job behind the scenes then Ron must have been a one man ‘veto’ machine in opting for picks that were on his own ‘intuition’.

Quinn's top trait is "competitor." Gibbs was "intelligence with a side dish of guts." We talk about draft charts, but it would be interesting to see an intangibles chart.

I would say Gibbs' best trait was motivator.
I don't know. He really was a great tactician in his early days. The Riggins years looked nothing like the Posse years and he adapted his teams well to their strengths. More importantly, I've never seen any coach better at halftime adjustments. If they struggled in the first half you knew they would figure it out after halftime.

Yeah if I remember hearing stories that Gibbs was doing things in Week 3 to set up opponents they were gonna see in week 5 and 6.

I think his best trait was humility. How they won NEVER took precedent over winning.

Ah, I think I misread this. When I said Quinn's best trait I was referring to how in the video the trait he says he values most is "competitor" whereas I think the traits Gibbs valued most were "intelligence" and "guts"

As for the man himself, I think motivator might really fit Gibbs well.

Attention to detail.

Thats the trait that sets great coaches apart.

They pick up on an opponents failure to do X or Y on certain plays and use that against them.

That also means teams that are among the least penalized.

Gibbs offensive line and WRs didn’t jump offside on short yardage and didn’t beat themselves on defense.

Ron never fielded teams that could stay out of their own way.

Absolutely - great points Bulldog. I think we also have to recognize that great leaders surround themselves with great staff. And Gibbs did that through his career.

Apparently Shen is out. Replaced by Sosna.

i think JP is right. Shen was hired BEFORE Peters. Peters wants to build his staff and make sure they're all aligned with the same vision long term.

Agreed. Shen was hired before Peters - and was prob key in running the analytics on the value for Sweat and Young trades and other transition items. The local reporters are saying that Shen is moving onto other orgs that Harris owns.

Gibbs was the complete package and greatest coach ever. Winning three SB's with three different QB's has to be the greatest accomplishment ever for a HC.

Three different QBs and three different RBs. Kind of mindblowing. Even Art Monk wasn't a constant as he was out with injury for one of the playoff runs including the '82 Superbowl.
