2025 Commanders Transactions Thread

Let’s hope we get more out of some of the early picks this year.

It would be nice to see a true core player come in as a second rounder and take off for us.

Newton, Sinnott come along slowly as did McCaffrey in Round 3.
 
This strategy is a strong strategy to short-term 'field a team" and long-term "build a winner." Nothing cripples the team in terms of contract lengths/exposure, so the hope could be to build pieces via BPA in the draft. A strategy that builds a winner with patience. It's all extra to be able to field a team that can actually make it to the postseason at the same time.

I know they are trying to field their best team but I think the thing that most people are (or were?) complaining about and missing on this person or that person - it may be based on not fitting into this long-term goal. Harris has been CLEAR on this, I think - he wants long-term success.
 
For the most part I think the team has brought back the right guys and jettisoned some others that chronically under performed like St. Juste.

My one caveat is Deiter. I can’t believe there wasn’t another C/G available who at least has the size and strength to compete inside even if they lack uber quickness and overall athleticism.
 
I went back and forth on Trent Scott. I mean I really would have preferred Lucas over Scott.

I remember thinking Dieter didn't do a horrible job. I mean, he relied on Allegretti to call protections, but even there, if Allegretti is more familiar with it, I personally just think it should impact his contract number, but not necessarily his value as long as someone can cover for him. Maybe I missed something though, I remember having a low bar for him too (I remember explicitly thinking "this isn't as bad as I thought it would be"), but no really clear recollection of just how good/bad it was.

I never disliked St. Juste as much as others. His DPI issues were bad, but unlike Forbes, I truly thought there may be something coachable there.

Interesting, St. Juste had a year with Harbaugh at Michigan, now reunited in San Diego.

I still think Sinnott can become really good and impactful. But an underwhelming rookie year for sure.

Some of St. Juste's DPI calls were sketchy as heck. There was one game where Hocculi called him for pass interference because his shadow fell over the receiver.

(He's gone because he lost the trust of the coaching staff. I think his departure will help both sides.)

I think it's on Fowler.

I get the sense that AP's offer insulted him because he got double digit sacks and instead of negotiating with him as a premier pass rusher, he treated him like a specialty player. In other words, AP wanted Fowler to get paid and Fowler wanted to get PAID.
