2024 - Way too early draft thread

I hear ya, but it's not right. This is you auditioning for your future and you aren't doing all you can to impress your employer?

Now Marvin Harrison Jr isn't working either!

This is just another reminder that I'm getting too old for this shit

When you‘re Secretariat you don’t need to run with the practice ponies. Nothing to gain. What is important is already on tape. What does throwing to undefended receivers and no pass rush really accomplish? They will all throw at their pro days anyway for those that like to see guys running around free in shorts playing catch.

The important part, to me, is that they will all meet with teams 1 on some. That will give insight to teams that is far more valuable than any dog and pony show.

Yeah, I never expected Williams, Maye, or Daniels to throw at the Combine. Honestly, I don't expect them to do much.

Harrison isn't much of a surprise either.

It's the world we live in today. These guys are already millionaires so...

Yeah, the combine is for guys who want to improve their draft stock. If you are a top 5 pick, your stock is only going down. That’s just the reality of it.

Also, there's a higher risk of disappointing when you're throwing to receivers you haven't established timing with. I think that's the other reason they like throwing on their home turf. They get to throw to receivers where they know much more about their route running, speed, etc.

IMHO I hope more top 10 players just don’t go to the combine as a whole. Opens up more spots down the list to get some of those other guys exposuee

Man - he is so young

WFAN had on an ex-Jet scout, Dan Kelly, who said that Drake Maye is a late first round, early second round pick to him.

"He needs to improve his footwork, accuracy and while his arm is NFL standard its not as strong as some who are hyping him in the media are presenting".

Kelly's cut didn't get as much into Caleb Williams and Daniels as Kelly had not yet reviewed all of their work.

He said that Penix Jr. is the most NFL ready of the quarterbacks coming out slated to go in the first couple of rounds.

I’m staring to feel that Daniels is going to be the pick. Might need an additional, dedicated blue medical tent on the sideline.

Interesting, I am feeling the opposite.

I have no idea why. It's lying season. No new information is out there, and nobody who actually knows anything is saying anything to anybody.

It's a total guess.

BUT, if I'm connecting the dots, I think the fact Maye played in the Air Raid offense makes him easier to evaluate for Kingsbury. That doesn't mean we will run the air raid offense. I don't think we will. However, I wouldn't be shocked if we borrowed a lot of terminology from the air raid offense.

And having a QB who's already familiar with the terminology, and who the OC can evaluate running some of the same concepts he's familiar with, I think is a bonus.

I also think Peters was just part of a GM group which took a HUGE swing on a QB they thought could do more than just pass, could be a run threat as well as a passer. Didn't work out.

I get the feeling Maye might be the "safer" of the picks, and I'm not sure Peters goes with the "safer" option.

I don't believe anything I read on the internet during lying season, so I'm just connecting dots.

Finley and rumors - for what its worth.

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure this isn't a great interview technique.

Caleb Williams saying "I'll give my medical records to the teams I'm visiting"

His dad speaking again about part ownership

The kid is sinking any credibility he has left

So...

Cornelious Lucas is out of contract and the team has told Charles Leno he will be released. This means we don't have a LT on the roster at all.

There won't be a lot of great options available in FA and the ones are available will likely be of the same age as the guys we are parting with.

This would seem to indicate that we are targeting a guy in the draft.

I wouldn't mind Lucas back. He always overperformed when called upon. That said, I don't know if what Kingsbury is looking for in an olinemen is the same that Turner and Bienemy did.
