2024 - Way too early draft thread

I love the decisiveness and the youth movement that's coming. It's a rebuild folks - don't believe otherwise. And rebuilding is good, not sure how it ever became a dirty word...

it's a dirty word because people generally perceive it as a long process. Don't start off by giving our fanbase reason to believe it going to be a long process.... even though it likely will be. There are far more casual fans then fanatics like most of the people found here, and they buy whatever the team and media feeds them.

this is why i'm very passive about what I actually post to on Twitter... because rational thinking is lacking big time both within that app, and this fanbase in a lot of corners

With a 4-13 record and less than 10 players other teams would likely trade a second day pick for there is no question this is a rebuild.

After 4 years of Rivera, the team's most recognizable and tradeable players remain Allen, McLaurin and Payne.

Other than Cosmi and Curl I don't see any players that Ron brought in that are guys that rate highly on PFF.

the first thing I suggested after we traded Sam and got an additional 3rd rounder.

It will be interesting to see how the draft board goes. There are a good number of tackles available and if there is an early run on receivers and quarterbacks we could see some guys drop into that 'I can't believe Jonathan Allen is available at #17' territory.

Or it could go the other way. So many QBs and tackles taken early, some stud WR or CB is sitting there we never would've thought available with our 2nd pick. I hope we can avoid moving up. This is now a full on rebuild and every pick counts.

Supposedly Steelers gave up a 2025 6th that only rises with 51% of snaps played; and Steelers sources say RWilson to start. That's actually not a horrible deal for Fields.

Having both Williams and Fields in the offseason program and training camp was felt to be too much of a distraction for the team preparing for 2024.

The Bears gave up a lot of compensation to move up to draft Fields at #11 in 2002. A move I never really understood, watching Fields in college he didn't look like an NFL franchise passer, merely a great college quarterback.

It's a good thing Chicago was able to find a huckleberry in Carolina to give them what turned out to be the #1 overall pick or else they would be in a world of hurt.

Let's face it, though. Chicago has done a good job of bringing in skill players in Allen, Moore and Swift as well as Everett for 2024.

If Caleb Williams is what the Bears hope then in all likelihood the Fields experiment will soon be an afterthought.

If Williams turns out to be a middling starter in the NFL or like Griffin a high ego player that resists coaching then Poles is going to be out of a job.

Now that the first week of free agency is over, we have a pretty good indication of what the teams picking in the top 5 will do. I have no idea what the Giants will do at 6, but the moves made by the teams at the top are signaling what direction they are going. This could still change as there is more than a month until the draft, but as of right now, this is how I see it:

1. Chicago - QB
2. Washington - QB
3. New England - QB
4. Arizona - WR
5. Chargers - WR or LT

The Chargers could go either way and depending on who they like and who is available, but they no longer have their top 2 WR. They could also move up or down. I think everyone else is locked in to picking what is listed above based on their moves so far.

If I’m Peter’s, I’m not trading out of the top 5. There is too much risk of not getting a QB if you drop too low. Unless you think one of the lesser QBs is your guy. I don’t see that happening though since I don’t expect Mariota to be the guy either. But he could trade down to 5 and still get a QB. Likely one of the top 3, but definitely one of the top 4. I just can’t see AZ or LAC passing up on Harrison if they have a chance to take him. I believe the Giants will sit there and take whoever falls to them, whether it’s a QB, LT, or WR. They also will get their pick of the top defensive player since the top 5 will almost certainly be offense. The Vikings are lurking as well and could trade with any team in the top 5. I believe that going below the top 5 puts you at risk of missing out.
